  1. ... you are such a badass. I'm pretty sure salvage computers are harder than custom computers.
  2. Thanks! In your challenge, you're going 80% Paleo. How are you measuring percentage? Right now I'm just eyeballing.
  3. It's about to get TURBONERDY up in here! I'm thinking this processor with this motherboard. I'm going for something right on the upside of a workhorse computer, because I want the graphics for the Metro games (RUSSIAN AND VIDEO GAMES YAY!). Then this fan and this RAM. I'm having a devil of a time choosing a graphics card, because I keep looking at the mid-range ones I can afford and going "but for $100 more it could be BETTER, and then I wouldn't have to replace it to play new games!" I'm also having a hard time choosing a power source, because every single one has a review that says "this blew up" or "this caught on fire." I love explosions and fire, but not in my apartment, dammit! You are very quickly becoming one of the coolest people I know. What graphics card did you use? Also, totally checking that site.
  4. Yus! You can. I'm about to finish for Mechanical engineering. I'm not dyslexic but I totally get the word thing. Mathematical Astrophysics sounds like too much awesome! ... what is it exactly?
  5. My leg wasn't dumb enough to ache when I was in bed last night. I think it's scared of me. And yay! Personal quest sharing!
  6. I could also be wrong in translation with the "it has very" vs. "you have very." I'm really a newbie - one semester of class three years ago. Also, are you an engineer?
  7. I understood "My favorite show is probably "Doctor Who" because you have very..." Is "храшо" anything like "хорошо?"
  8. Good job! We're doing well on our mission so far.
  9. Day 1: Success Quest 1: Fighting Weight Paleo Compliance Goals: 20% Compliant I think I did this. Here's the list of foods consumed today (will update later for midnight snacks): Orange Juice: 2 glasses Water: 1/2 glass Coffee: 2 glasses Pepsi: 1 can 1 Banana 3 packages Walnuts and Almonds (~3 handfuls) 1 Meat Pie (small) 2 Snack-size Snickers 1 cup Blackberries 2 Hardboiled Eggs 1 Big Handful York Pieces But I have no idea how to rank Paleo percentage. By calorie intake? Serving size (and, if so, what is a homogenous measure of serving size)? Eyeballing? Help! Quest 2: Keeping Up Practice Parkour once a day, alternating body weight workouts and running/Parkour practice. Technically, yes. I did 30 1-stair jumps and 1 2-stair jump. However, the braking motion of landing on the next step was painful for my bad hip, so I stopped before I felt like I'd gotten a good workout in. I might run tomorrow - it's got less braking involved. Quest 3: Scars Fade I need to stretch my leg every day to get some of my range of motion back. Yay mini-challenge! All of the stretches were great for my bad leg. I also rolled around on a massage ball to relax the muscle. Stretches were really rough today. I refuse to do standing forward bend because pain. In seated forward bend, I'm pushing it to get a 125 degree angle between my upper legs and lower back. I did a modified one with my left leg tucked to stretch my right leg (which is normal - I can touch my ankle). In the wide forward bend, I've got 90 degrees between my legs and my body, and my legs make a 90 degree angle with each other. Leg swings are tender but ok, though I have to be REALLY careful front-and-back on the left side. But I got the hold squats. Squats I can do. Personal Quest: Can you take the Island out of the Girl? Preparation. Practice at least two skills a day. Surprisingly, the staring contest game is pretty easy. It's kind of an adrenaline high - I'm nervous enough around people that challenging them gives me a rush. I like that some of Kamb's suggestions are consistent with evolutionary psychology. Eye contact, for most animals, is a challenge. Therefore, getting away with it would raise your confidence level and make you look more "alpha." I also worked on posture at the grocery store and between classes. I tried it a bit before the challenge, and I think I'm starting to adapt. It's going well enough that I think I can level it up to practicing my posture while sitting in class.
  10. Four! Mолодец! Question for you: what is your favorite TV show and why? (You're still on Team Arrow if you choose Stargate )
  11. How exactly do you "pass?" Like, doing them once a day? Doing them at all?
  12. Yay! Be sure to check out the introduction post for team assignments! And I think that's a good idea.
  13. The last pre-challenge announcement! Until cmhutch and fiOWNya give me alter-ego names, I've come up with provisional ones! cmhutch, AKA NightingalefiOWNya, AKA Dauntless I've read over everyone's challenges. (Ok, I'm a stalker. Sue me. ) During my extensive research, I found that: Raveи and Nightengale both have awesome body weight-focused goals. (Raveи's "Earth-Downs" and Nightengale's Angry-Birds workout) Dauntless and I have daily Parkour challenges. Raveи is studying Russian. (Girl, we should practice together!)Ergo, barring objection, the team will be training together under Verdant on the regular and all keeping track of each other. We'll work on our alter egos, cheer each other on, and kick ass (it's what Team Arrow does best!). There may or may not be Russian involved (totally optional!). But we'll be dealing with two names on the list this challenge. Team success depends on crossing both names off of the list. See the intro post for the assignments! Also, chime in what "grade" you think we need to hit to beat the bad guys, and whether it should be a team or pair average, or if everyone needs to pass. Or if you think this adds too much pressure and I need to chill.
  14. Me too! I love that quote.
  15. Awesome! Yay creativity! Ok I've posted your backstory in the intro!
  16. It's ok, none of us have! Who's your favorite Arrow character? You can semi-hijack their origin story (or that of any other super hero). Or you can make an allegorical summary of your actual origin story. Or you could do both, like I did.
  17. Cool! (Just so you know, I read Cyrillic so I might accidentally call you Ravei. I'll try to keep it straight, though.) Can't wait to see your backstory! I'll post them in the intro, too.
  18. Wow! Your X-Rays look so cool! And THAT, people, is how you make a super hero origin story.
  19. C'mon Barfly! You've been practicing your running so you can CHASE people when they do that!
  20. Yes, wasting, because I was collecting underpants. Also, there's this wonderful think called Netflix...
