Yup thats a hernia and will need surgery. recovery time?

My brother had hernia. He underwent the hernia surgery and had to rest for about a month and half. The first two weeks was complete rest and then he could walk around bit the doctor specifically told him not to lift anything at all. So I guess you will also have to wait for about 6 weeks. And even after that start lifting only after consulting with your doctor.
