  1. get a good thermometer and learn how to/ and use it. Learn how to calibrate your thermometer so you are sure it's hitting the temps it says it is.If you are positive that the thermometer is accurate and the meat is still slightly pink, don't worry about it, it is done. Learn how to brine poultry, and most importantly remember to let your meat rest before you cut it, if you cut meat before it's rested it will be dry in a few minutes even if it was perfectly cooked before.
  2. My favourite crockpot recipes are balsamic braised short ribs and jerk porkbelly. I like to serve as is with a side of veggies and use as leftovers on oopsie bread. None of these recipes are exclusively mine(I have made modifications to them to make them more low carb paleo.) but I can write them out if you're interested. Oopsie bread is not paleo due to the use of soft/cream cheese but if you don't have an issue with milk its a great way to eat sandwiches with real food
  3. Use it for any recipe that doesn't have tomatoes in it. Cast Iron is the best but it requires proper care and is sensitive to acid.
  4. My favourite way to add flavour to hard boiled eggs is a modified chinese tea egg recipe. (things like swap coconut aminos for soy sauce) I know it sounds super weird but its delish!

  7. I did kickboxing, karate, Tai Chi, Chinese sword dancing, Poi(A maori fire dancing and belly dancing combination class) and Iaido. I am a fan of the fire dancing and sword dancing including Iaido. Makes uncoordinated me feel like I'm in an fancy fighting scene from a movie or video game, and I'm a fan of the props. Straight fighting classes make me uncomfortable.
  8. I wouldn't worry about your weight so much as body fat %. Your weight can go up and body fat % go down. take pictures as well. I eat about 80-90% fat. Herbs and spices are your friend for changing flavours. I really like the book Practical Paleo for meal plans and recipes. I may be misinterpreting what you wrote, but I hope you don't think that fat is fattening. When I tried the stuff that the current nutrition industry is pushing (low fat, high carb, calorie restricted) I gained weight. I am now down 37 lbs from my heaviest overall and 56 lbs of extra fat mass by eating fat. (only 40 g carbs from real food and up to 122g protein (based on 1 g protein per pound of lean mass)) I do not track anymore. When I first started I tracked to determine how I should eat to maintain ketosis of 1.5. once I learned what this looks like I stopped tracking. as long as you eat right for you, you will lose fat. As long as you exercise right for you you will improve your mood, overall health and fitness. You can't out run your fork and the scale sometimes lies. 200lbs and 15% body fat looks a lot better than 200lbs and 45% bodyfat. No matter which approach you take, eat real food not processed crap, which I assume you are doing since you said you are paleo. ugh I read through this and it is all over the place and kind of preachy. Sorry. I really don't know how to edit this so that it reads like I intend it to. I'm not a professional writer. Please take that into consideration.

  11. Try re-calibrating and leveling your scale.A good scale allows both. check a known weight on the scale and see how far the scale is off. Always use the same scale at the same time in the same place and the same way.

  15. I hope I'm not fanatical. I do however, feel that everyone should try paleo if they haven't and are having issues. I have done a lot to lose weight and nothing has ever worked for me. Until now. And because of that I find that I do mention LCHF Paleo with IF a lot. I don't want other women who suffer like I did, who try everything and follow the rules and still don't lose weight; who fight constantly with their bodies and all they end up with for months of effort, tracking everything they eat and do, is at best maintaining their already fat bodyweight, who follow the advice of experts to get healthy and end up getting sicker, to have to go through the years of frustration, agony, self doubt, health issues and prejudice that I went through (and continue to deal with, even if it's improving) if they don't have too. Unfortunately my enthusiasm may make it seem like I'm fanatical, when that is not my intent. Also based on what I'm reading, what most (not all) people seem to have a problem with is the name Paleo Diet. Names are useful for conveying a large amount of information in a small amount of time. When you say "I'm a (insert profession here)" it gives people an idea of what kind of person you are, without you going on a long description. Yes, when you abbreviate information you increase the chances that someone will misunderstand, but for the majority it provides clear and precise information. (so tempted to quote Shakespeare here)
  16. If you get tight calves a lot don't neglect to roll out the soles of your feet. Rolling out your calves is like putting a tensor on after you twist your ankle. Rolling out your feet is like doing exercises to prevent twisting your ankle in the first place. Both are great but one is prophylactic and the other is reactive.
  17. I too have suffered super tight calves. Here is what worked for me: Switched my runners to vibram 5 fingers(immediately cleared my shin splint); roll out the soles of my feet on a yoga ball(very similar to a lacrosse or racquetball); use a rolling pin on the front of my leg on either side of the tibia until it stops hurting( do not go over the tibia, you will just bruise); lay on my belly with the foam roller under my ankles and have DH or DD roll the back of my calves until it starts to feel good with a rolling pin; wedging a yoga ball under one side of my calf and rolling with the other yoga ball on top of where the other yoga ball is.
