  1. If there ever is one planned I am in as well! I live in Laveen, 51st ave and Baseline area.
  2. LOL no way! . . . . but I should try. I usually have to think to myself when I am running... If this was easy, everyone could do it!
  3. That sounds like an amazing run! I am in Phoenix, so I would love a nice run in the woods or by a river. Usually I am running on a street or gravel..... lol.
  4. At mile 10... I did not want to see that hill.... I am so afraid of hills. Maybe that can be my next goal... like a half marathon of hills! lol hmmmmm
  5. Yes it was.... new course.. the hill by the botanical gardens almost killed me. lol
  6. Great job! 6 months after running my first mile ever I ran a half marathon. .. it all gets easier after that first mile.
  7. I totally think about stopping IF I think about the fact that I am running. I usually zone out to the music and try not to think. I still cant believe I did it....
  8. In August I ran a mile for the first time without stopping.... September.... a 5k for the first time without stopping.... October... a 10k for the first time without stopping... and.... January 15, 2012..... ran my first half marathon in Phoenix, AZ !!!!!! It was an amazing feeling, I still can't believe I did it. Nothing is impossible!!! ps.. I also lost 50 lbs this year.
  9. 1st week update.... Went to the gym 3x this week and ran a 5k in 40 mins. My legs are very sore from my first strength training workout with a trainer. I actually stayed on top of my reading for school and did some stuff ahead of time for once. I have been pretty good on my diet........ only the diet coke thing. I think I may have to NOT buy it anymore. I am way too addicted!
  10. Definitely tired of constant Plateaus and it is time to take running and working out to the next level to get to my ultimate goal. Goals for this challenge... Go to the gym 3x a week and run at least 4 miles each time. At least one day a week of strength training at the gym. One outdoor run of 4+ miles each weekend in the early morning. Lose 12 lbs. Eat 1500 calories per day, and really stick with it. Not like you are doing now... some days a little more! Only drink 1 diet coke per day! Stop eating so much cheese! (This will be hard, I manage to fit it in my diet lol.) Really actually read my textbooks and learn the material I should be. (Graduating in May with my BS in Criminology!!!). A little background.... I have lost 25 lbs since May of this year, and a total of 45 lbs since a year ago. I can run a 5K in 42 mins now without stopping. A year ago, I could only run a block before I had to walk. Plateaus have been a pain during my quest for fitness. I will not give up!
  11. I definitely run in the AZ heat on an empty stomach. If I am like starving before I go, I will have a small spoon amount of peanut butter to quiet the hunger pains before I go. On a 5K run, or 35-40 mins for me, I drink about 35oz of water. I have never felt hydrated enough to not have water with me when I run.
  12. I did constantly weigh myself for motivation, but as your body adjusts and the weight loss slows down.......... I was getting frustrated! So, after finding this site I did what was suggested and started measuring myself and only weighing myself once a week. It has really helped me keep motivated! Good luck and stick with it!
  13. I am just reading about getting started on this as well. Good luck! I am excited to make progress with this.
  14. I am a diet controlled diabetic, so I eat "ok" lol. I definitely could use more veggies in my diet. I don't really eat any sugar, but have found that I am addicted to granola. I seriously have a problem! lol. Why does it have to be soooooooooo good and have sooooooooooo many calories??? Reading about the Paleo diet and gonna try and lean that way. I really don't dig read meat that much. Maybe like once a month. I usually eat chicken and turkey. I love birds.. om nom nom. lol
  15. Thank you! I have done many 5Ks and even a 10k... but never without stopping to walk. I finally feel fit enough that I can do it. My "training" if you wanna call it that, was pretty half-ass before. I went to the gym maybe 2x a week... maybe. I never really committed. This time, I am completely committed. I have my first 5K on 9/11, then a 10K two weeks after that. I cant wait to get them done without stopping! I am hoping this training will help me get to my goal of freshman year of high school weight, which is only 15lbs away! My ultimate goal is 40lbs away. I failed to mention before, I am 32 and have a 3 year old son. On top of all this I am graduating from Arizona State University with a BS in Criminology and Criminal Justice in May!! ..........aka... a very busy person. I want to look damn good in that graduation picture.
  16. After many years of excuses, I am finally getting my ass to the gym and losing weight. I have lost 45 lbs and am shooting for 40 more. I have never felt so good in my entire life! I am the cheapest person alive, and to get my ass up I registered for a half marathon in January. Since then, I have been going to the gym faithfully 4x a week and eating 1500 calories a day. I usually stick to running and include sprints and intervals. I recently started lifting weights. I found this site and read all about strength training and the wonderful advantages of that vs just cardio. I am excited to make progress, but find myself more worried about calorie burn and not really focusing on the strength training. I hope I can get over it soon.
