  1. Right on! I'm kind of in the same spot. 40.5wks along in my pregnancy- stopped running and heavy lifting about 6 months ago. Worried how I'm going to get back to working full time plus squeeze the box back into my new mommy schedule. If you want to follow or accountability, I'm here!
  2. Good Evening! I'm Kristy and this is my first NF challenge. I have an average, potentially very athletic frame, but have been lacking the motivation to take me from "Yeah, I kind of run" to marathon goddess. I have a lot of life changes happening recently: I moved to a foreign country, am dealing with a deployed spouse and unemployment for the first time in my life. I need a little consistency and accountability right now to keep me from being overwhelmed, and hopefully a NF challenge can help provide some of that! Main Quest: Stay committed for the entirety of the 6 week challenge. Sign up for a 5k before the end of the challenge. Quest 1: Running 3x a week. This can include c-5k programs, running with the dog for 1.5+ mi. Increase 5k pace to under 10:00/mi Measurement: A= 32-36 runs B= 25-31 runs C= <25 runs Reward: A= STA+3 B= STA+2 C=STA+1 Quest 2: Alternative exercise 2xs a week. This can include group gym classes, strength training, yoga, etc. One weekend day per week will be spent doing something adventurous with the dog. Measurement: A= 10-12 classes B= 8-10 classes C= <8 classes Reward: A= STR+3 B= STR+2 C= STR+2 Quest 3: Increase water intake to 50-60oz per day to avoid the chronic dehydration. Measurement: A= avg. 50-60oz/day B=avg 30-40oz/day C= avg. <30oz/day Reward: A= CON+2 B= CON+1 C= CON+0.5 Life Quest: GET EMPLOYED! I want to work on a small fund for a wedding ceremony and pay off my student debt! Measurement: A= full time B= 20-40hrs/wk C= <20hrs/week Reward: A= CHA+2 B= CHA+1 C=CHA+0.5 Motivation: With a deployment I finally have some "me" time to dedicate to becoming a stronger person, mentally and physically. I don't want to accept a mediocre physique anymore, but step up and end up feeling confident when I go shopping, and have to wear a two-piece. waist 29, hips 34, thighs 21. Took "before" pictures, and will take weekly "after" pictures.
  3. I just discovered this magical place called Nerd Fitness about 2 weeks ago and love all the information I've received so far, however I am very new to Paleo and have some questions... I'm about 2 weeks into cleaning up my diet, gradually going Paleo (still eat sweet potato, dairy, oatmeal and sweetened tea/coffee). I used to eat TONS of carbs; at every meal and most snacks. The carb/sugar withdrawal has been difficult, because I've been feeling more hungry than ever before. I never had a sweet tooth before, and now just seeing a picture of a piece of cake makes my mouth water. Being hungry all the time makes me want to eat more, and I find that my portion sizes at dinner are bigger (although all protein and vegetables and some starch). My weight has always been okay (5'5", 120lbs, but only working out 2-3x/week), however I'm terribly worried that all the increased portions of veggies and protein (~50-70g/day) are going to make me gain. I mean, I've steered clear of real bacon, ground beef and egg yolks for the past decade, and I feel so guilty eating it!!!! Has anyone else had issues with gaining weight unintentionally? Especially because they are eating larger portions compared to pre-paleo? Or do I need to be strict with portion control and eat cashews or something after dinner? Also, on a different note, I need breakfast vegetable ideas (besides sweet potato). I can't have just bacon and eggs every day. Or would a fiber supplement be adequate/beneficial?
