Stronglifts 5x5's Tue, Thurs, Sat until completion of the program. 2. Begin Paleo diet to cut down fat covering nice solid abs. 3. Quit Smoking (What's all this for if I'm just going to get lung cancer?) 4. Take up some form of sport (as long as it doesn't interfere with work outs (this could be Basketball, ultimate frisbee, etc) 5. Eat more veggies and fruits. 6. Update this thread with progress when I see it. (including stories, pictures, etc. Spend time on the updates, make myself care about posting every time I need to. Additional side goals depending on how things change with life etc; Continue making payments on my loans Be a better brother/son/friend Life goal; Be a better me overall (and looking great with my shirt off would be cool too) Motivation; Family, friends, and of course, my own need to improve myself. And equally important, the wonderful community here at NerdFitness. You guys are all awesome to each other and I can't wait to destroy this challenge!
  2. I'm relatively new here, but you guys seem like good people so I'll get straight to it. I am 6'0" and weigh 175 pounds. I'm not overweight by any stretch, but I would love to build muscle and be able to look in the mirror and see Tyler Durden style body. Okay, maybe never that cut, but I'd still like to see some muscle. I've been the same skinny kid since I started high school 6 years ago. You can see what I'm saying. But I have absolutely no idea where to start. I know I'm going to be doing a Paleo diet while attempting this goal. Cliff note goals: Want to lower body fatWANT MUSCLEEating healthierStopping smokingIf you guys can just build me a weight lifting program or give me ideas on where to start that would be amazing. I have access to free weights and of course bodyweight training. I also work from a home office if that helps.
  3. I am a big fan of pot and feel like I'll have no problem with self control with my diet even if the munchies are kicking in. (Fresh fruit tastes better than doritos anyway). So my question is, do you thing pot will interfere with paleo in any way? I know pot causes metabolism to work harder, but I have a freak metabolism anyway. Just curious as to what others think.
  4. So I have a renewed interest in becoming fit and reaching fitness goals that I lost for a while due to a mix of depression and other factors. But now I want to get back in it. I'm not obese (thankfully, judging by how I eat), but I want to lose body fat and gain muscle. Don't need to be a body builder, but not being a stick man would be nice. I've been the same weight/body shape since freshman year of high school. The difference being that I didn't have much body fat because of track and football. Regardless, I saw this forum and you guys seem like a fun bunch of people and not just huge meat heads talking about their "huge gains". So I thought I'd say hello and that I look forward to being part of the community and taking part in the challenges. But first some questions: I'm thinking about the Paleo diet. I have friends who are on it that are looking AMAZING and are willing to help me with it until I get my bearings. Is anyone here currently Paleo; and if so, what improvements have you seen? And as far as setting up a workout routine, I'm thinking about following this guys idea: http://www.nerdfitne...e-and-strength/ Monday - Squats, Benchpress, Wide Grip Pull Ups, Planks Wednesday - Deadlift, Overhead Press, Inverted Rows, Hanging Knee Raises Friday - Weighted Lunges, Weighted Dips, Weighted Chin Ups, Reverse Crunches. And I guess just kind of go my own way from there, but I'm looking for recommendations. But again, looking forward to being part of the forum and can't wait to meet you all! -Maverick
