tl;dr - to burn fat and also gain muscle, + or - calories? hey guys, I just started strength training about a month ago, along with trying to shift towards a better diet, i.e. more meat & less pie. I'm a 5'4" female and I weigh in at ~130lb or so, which would actually be great if it were all muscle (like the totally bada** staci). there's plenty of fat that needs to go, but I also really care about continuing to get stronger. aside from that, the scale doesn't matter to me, so I'm not sure whether I should be aiming for a calorie deficit (burn fat) or surplus (build muscle). or about equal? anybody have any insight?
