  1. Getting my cardio in today. At work got called out to a remote site. Foreman told me wrong place to park and I ended up walking along railroad tracks where trains are zipping by at 70 mph for about a mile. Even had to cross a bridge and had visions of Stand by Me running through my head.
  2. Longish time since posting, so I’ll start from the beginning. Friday I didn’t do my yoga at my usual time thinking I would be able to do it after I took Cub2 to the doctor’s for his post surgery check up and then drop him off at day care, then do yoga. For some reason I didn’t drop him off at daycare and instead toddled around shopping with him. That was a mistake because we both got tired and grumpy and no yoga was done. Saturday was fun. Took the Cubs to a local farm historic site. Cub2 had a big time chasing chickens and cats and seeing all the other animals. Cub1 also seemed to have fun. Sunday took Cubs and wife to new park I saw the other day. Cubs had fun. Then went house shopping for the wife. Getting really worried that her tastes are going to end up getting us into the poor house and not a new house. Monday, so far, got my first scheduled yoga for the week. I was fretting so much over the missed one Friday that it felt good to get back on track.
  3. Personally I think I’m irreplaceable, but honestly I’m not sure what they are going to do with my position and that kinda tipped me into taking this new position. Take what I want instead of having to accept what is given to me. I’ve never seen my department in such turmoil before so it’s hard to say what’s going to happen. I’ll be the 4th person leaving in six months (that’s a third of our shop), the place I’m bidding into has also had four people (of 25) move or leave the company in the same time span, and two other shops in our area have had people bid to positions outside of our territory (one from each shop, but the are both only two man shops). Also in the shop I’m bidding into a third of them applied for one of the positions that opened up in the smaller shop. And that second smaller shop just had it’s spot open up, so I’m sure there will be a bidding war for that position also. Then there is the part where our department got absorbed into another similar department, so that puts all of our futures in jeopardy. The one place I know they will need is the repair facility even if the other department starts taking our jobs. Times of chaos man.
  4. Ha ha ha. This randomly came up as a suggested video in YouTube and was wondering how accurate it was. It’s different and if you don’t have time to watch it, whatever.
  5. I’ve been reading a book called The Sublte Art of Not Giving a F*ck and to be honest I’m not getting much out of it. But there was a section talking about how goals suck and I thought about our discussion about goals. He takes the same stance as you that goals might be more bad for you than helpful due to the demotivation you get once you reach that goal and you find out you weren’t any happier than you were before. Instead like you he advocates a process mentality. While I still do find myself setting goals that it would be nice to be this weight or that, after our conversation I’m now more focused on the process of doing my yoga, drinking less calories, and making little changes in my life that will result in my goals being a by-product of the process. Didn’t know if I ever thanked you for that bit of mental banter, I always appreciate your insights.
  6. I’ve been following for a while but haven’t commented due to laziness. Love your goals. I’m in the same boat as you with wanting to lose weight and having two kids that I want to be a role model to. I loved your recap of the archery tournament. Archery is one of the things I’d like to try (among many other things) but never get around to trying. I’m also on the kick the liquid calorie quest. I may have overcompensated by drinking too much ice tea, but figure that’s the lesser of the two evils. I’m also loving your playlist. I’m learning things I’ve never heard of before. Your first song from Manau wasn’t familiar to me but I did like it and did look up the English lyrics. I got a little depressed when I didn’t understand the first line of the song talking about Armorican Brittany and had to do some research on that. Though I would say that I’m one of the few Americans (sadly) that knows that Brittany is a part of France and not another spelling for Britain. Forgot to ask if this song is in your top 300.
  7. So I finally got around to watching the Rip Row machine video. Two things stood out for me. One, is there a need for the seat on that thing? I suppose you could sit on it but then it just becomes a big toy that rocks from side to side. Which leads to the second thing, he calls it an unstable platform but it can only rock from side to side and it seems not very far at that. You would do better getting a bosu ball and doing deadlifts on that (or yoga hint hint). It really just looks like an unstable clothes hanger in the making. I was kind of surprised when you said that drone footage of the Hammer Race was of the “elite” athletes because by the first hundred yards the field really spread out and the back of the pack seemed to hardly be going faster than a brisk walk. Of course knowing nothing of these events maybe they were pacing themselves.
  8. Sorry about the dog drama. I keep thinking I want a dog, but then see what my sister and brother go thru with their dogs and my enthusiasm fades. Good job getting thru everything.
  9. Following. A themeless challenge with random gifing, I may have to challenge myself to join in the randomness. My gif-ing to now has been weak to say the least. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Another quick update. First I did win my bid, so* I’ll have a new position soon-ish. Manager sent an email saying my release date will be determined in the “near” future. Most likely not until they find a replacement, my guess is that I’ll be at new job first of the year. Plus I still have 3 weeks of vacation left for the year so* it might be silly to move me over before then. Of less importance, got my second scheduled yoga in but actual third workout of the week. I’m wondering if it’s the nervous energy that is prompting me to do more yoga? *I seem to be stealing Sloth’s so statements. I purposely removed one so* there wouldn’t be so many.
  11. Is this a Firefly reference? If so love it. Following. I’ll try to be more interactive this time around.
  12. So I saw somewhere drone footage of the start of the Hammer Race. Was there only about 30-40 people there because the pack didn’t seem very big? Or were there stages? Loved the race review and loved the comment about clear headspace more. And proud to see you repping the NFers with your race shirt. Are you back on meds or is just having a less stressful class the thing that helped? Sorry to hear about your bike shop closing.
  13. Quick update before I forget to post again. I put in my bid on Sunday night for new position and will find out later today if I got it or not. Monday did my scheduled yoga workout. Tuesday did an extra yoga session that lasted 25 minutes and not much compared to others that I’ve been doing, but still liked it. Talked with my sister and her youngest son (not really that young, 25 I think) and his family (girlfriend and 2 month old) is moving out of her house here in the next month or so. So my sister is going to be an empty nester soon and I don’t know how that will affect her. Hopefully I’ll be able to help her some in this period of transition.
  14. I would have been disappointed if the Hammer and Sickle was not a Communist Soviet Union themed restaurant and from what I saw on their website they did not disappoint. Glad to hear things are working out for you. Cabin-Con sounds fun. Any thoughts about your return trip to the Netherlands?
  15. Well as you can tell I don’t know how to do multi quotes in Tapatalk but that’s okay. Can’t remember if I mentioned before that Cub2 was getting ear tubes put in or not. So that happened last Friday and everything went well. He also had his adenoids removed. I had to take Thursday night off since the surgery was really early in the morning. I couldn’t sleep so finally at 5AM I got up and did my yoga for the day that I thought I was going to miss. Then cooked breakfast for everyone except Cub2 (no food or liquids pre-surgery). It was a nice dry run for what I hope will be my schedule when I get the new shift. Wake up 5AM, do yoga, shower, make and eat breakfast, make lunch for me and Cub1, and be out the door between 6:30-6:40. That’s the plan but I’ll have to see how it fits into real life. Otherwise not much else of consequence going on. Did get an extra 45 minute yoga session in on Thursday for a total of 5/3 for the week. Sunday morning currently sitting at 800 out of 25,000+ yoga-ers, so still in my range of being in the top 1,000.
  16. Thanks for the luck. I still wobble back and forth about if this is the right thing. I worry about the unknowns but then I think about the changes and how they might be good for me. I think I’m excited about having a good attitude and trying something new which is something I lost a long time ago in my current position. And something about your statements about your last batch of co-workers struck a chord (ha, guitar reference) in me about how I might be like them and I didn’t want to be.
  17. We were stuck at 95 all Summer. I want to say it’s as humid here but it’s hard to compete with 10,000 lakes, we just have a lot of rivers. Either way on Totoro is good. The more people that see it the better. How good is the series? Worth checking out? The one confusing part of the movie was that in the first scene two dragons are fighting and one kills the other but then they never explain what the importance of them fighting was other than dragons haven’t been seen in that area before. I would enjoy my kicking of ass if it wasn’t for the fact that I’m just in a locked room doing exercises while you’re out in the real world using real world skills and interacting with people. And before you say it I mean “interacting” in the sense that you actually see people and they can see you.
  18. Love Kiki’s Delivery Service and Nausicaa. And I’ve never heard of Only Yesterday. A new movie to seek out.
  19. Doing well on yoga. Got both of my workouts in for the week and even threw in an extra 12 minute core one at the end of the Wednesday one. Eating improved, but still not good. Think I’m doing okay, then co-workers bring in cookies and cupcakes and I start eating them like they’re going out of style. Very proud of my lack of drinking calories though. A big win for now. However I do seem to have too much of an attraction for un-sweet tea, if I don’t have it around I get fidgety. Big News! I think I’ve finally come to the conclusion to take another job and move to days. I’ve been debating it for a long time and felt sad when I didn’t jump on the opportunity last month. Monday night/Tuesday morning I spent most of the night cleaning out my lockers, shelves, and desk in anticipation of my leaving (haven’t actually bid yet) and it felt very satisfying to actually be doing that and helping me move along in my decision making process. And I’ve been debating all the pros and cons and all the pros are non-work related and all the cons are work related. I’ve come to the conclusion that the only reason I’m staying in my position is because it’s the misery I’m familiar with and I’m scared about what might happen in the other position. But honestly those fears are starting to disappear when I think more about my situation. So I’ll know by the 16th if I got the position and then it will be a waiting game to see when my current manager will release me. I would like it to be at the beginning of 2019 but I have little say in when I will go. P.S. It’s amazing the amount of crap a person can accumulate over 22 years in one shop.
  20. You most certainly can recommend Ponyo. Great movie and I should watch it again. Unfortunately I missed the theater release earlier in the year. It’s amazing the movies he’s put out. No wonder he’s a national treasure. Though I was disappointed by The Wind Rises. The development of the Zero as a kid’s story didn’t bother me much, but using mouth sounds for the airplane engines just really brought me out of the film and distracted too much. I used to love sleeping on that mattress, so I’m assuming it’s the additional weight I’ve gained that is making it uncomfortable. Calling a recliner a BarcaLounger is some serous old man shit. Does it get hot in Minnesota? Or is it relative to like when people think when it’s 60 it’s freezing and they break out their coats. Years ago you shamed me by talking about Totoro and I never saw it, but rectified that quickly. Now you have done it again because I’ve never seen Tales of Earthsea and to be honest never knew it was a Studio Ghibli film. Couldn’t find it streaming anywhere so I bought the DVD. I don’t know anything about the Earthsea series so I can’t comment too much on the story or how well the film conveys it. But the story centers around Arren a former prince and his travels with Sparrowhawk the arch-mage and how Arren gets caught in the middle of a feud between Sparrowhawk and an evil sorcerer Cob. The imagery is good, I’d saw about on par with Castle in the Sky or Howl’s Moving Castle. The story is not really for kids (slavery, ostracism of people with magical abilities, and a few killings). Good for teens and fans of the Earthsea series.
  21. This is what makes hero stories so great. The struggle, the epiphany, and the eventual triumph. This is what searching for your inner Wonder Woman is suppose to be, small insights to move you forward to the Wonder Woman your meant to be. Keep going, you’re doing good.
  22. Perhaps that why their “dynasty” only lasted 15 years.
  23. Poutine burgers! The Canadians have made it this far South? You would think Sloth in Minnesota would have given us a heads up. We’re building the wall at the wrong border ;P . Actually I need the name of the place so I can stop in there when I pass through Omaha next time. Might be sooner than I think because I just discovered there is a DDP Yoga instructor in Sioux City my old stomping grounds.
  24. End of the week and all workouts completed. Yah. Thought I had more to say, but can’t of anything. So short and sweet today.
