  1. I'm not training for anything. What I worry about with the weight training is that I feel like I should be doing some cardio as I work from home and my daily commute is the spare bedroom next to my own. I understand the importance of weights and ofc I know gaining muscle does not happen over night, it's not easy so i'm not worried about bulking up and it does help you burn more calories. I would like to have them running simulateneously so is cardio just as simple as maintaining 60-70% of your max heart rate for min 30mins 3x/week?
  2. Hey guys, I've been looking through the free stuff on the site and the routines and they seem great however I feel like I need a bit of advice when it comes to doing cardio at the gym. A reason it has to be at the gym for me is that I work from home so any excuse to get out I take it. It's also where I collect my thoughts. So my question is if I am going to the gym 3-4x a week how much cardio should I do, what intensity and then what weight exercises? (running isn't an option as my knees can't take it, or at least not until I get them stronger, plus I hate it but bike, rowing, elliptical are all good.) I did have a good programme at my old gym ~4 years ago but i'll be damned if I can remember what I was doing. I have been fit before so I know I can do it, I just want to know i'm doing the best I possibly can. Stats: height: 5ft 4" weight: 214lb age: 27 lifestyle: mostly deskbound, wanting to change that. Any help would be really appreciated!
  3. Ok so it turns out I weighed myself this morning, the last such occasion was the start of August. Since then i've dropped 6lb. WTAF.
  4. The photo wasn't in the book, the art I painted was - this was just a pre-release but yes, it does bring it home
  5. In 2006 I looked great. I'd just graduated from uni and I was happy. A few months ago I was at a pre-release for a book I worked on and had my photo taken. Honestly I almost vomited when I saw it. It's my profile pic here so please have a look. I want to be back how I was in 2006. Right now i've worked out I should be eating 1627/day to reach a goal of dropping 30kg by 6th July 2012. That's a date calculated by the cal calc as being healthy. Going to work really hard at this cause i'm sick of being disgusting. I am also aiming for 3.33ltrs of water a day. Current weight: 100kg or 220lb Target weight: 70kg or 154lb (this is just for starters) Height: 5ft 4" or 164cm Age: 27 Occupation: Illustrator (so at a PC most of the time) Current gym activity: ~twice a week, it should be more. I've lost a lot of weight before so I know I can do it and been trying to eat healthily the last few months with little change so just need to change something and that is def a conscious calorie counting effort and targeted workout. I am wondering how much cardio and weights should I be doing per gym session for optimal effects?
  6. If you're gaining fat you must be consuming more calories than you burn. Simple. I must say IMHO I think you're a little young to be restricting your diet like that.
  7. Funny you mention sleeping late, abnormal patterns, too much computer, stress: I have all of those. I am self employed and pretty much spend the whole day at the pc. As for not having a dark enough bedroom it's as dark as I can get it but still imho not dark enough. Possibly this fatigue is more mental than physical which makes sense.
  8. I never said it was, I was just listing what I was taking. Can you elaborate on D3?
  9. Lately for the last few months i've been getting these little things that have run me down. Colds that never develop into colds just a bit of a sore throat and blocked nose. I also suffer from depression but that's not getting in the way so much it's the random slaps of illness. I am taking a multivit with iron and high vit C doses and I think it stopped me getting full blown sinusitis my other half has had for a week. Is the best exercise I can do when like this just walking and should I totally avoid the gym? I don't feel like this thing is going away but at the same time I don't feel like it's something worthy of approaching the doctor with.
  10. Interesting that's something the doc didn't mention! Will look into it!
  11. So here is a total calorie counting n00b question (as last time I lost weight I just went by eye, and being a student helped!) how does one work out how many cal you need in a day. For example i'm 27/f 5ft 4.5" 100kg and looking to lose at least 20kg initially.
  12. I'm on the injection and i'm seriously wondering about it. I was on femodene for years but moved onto the injection cause I HATE periods, any time I got a slightly upset stomach i'd panic I was pregnant, I was having throat infections and penicillin messes with the pills and I got paranoid I would forget to take it. The injection has been great, no periods and just a needle in my ample butt every 3 months but i'm wondering if it's causing problems with weight gain and weight loss. I asked my GP a few weeks ago and she said my BMI was actually too high for me to be on the pill and the injection was the best option for me. The injection is Depo Provera which may be called something else outside the UK. Thoughts? Experiences?
  13. Thanks - I think I need to force myself to do some form of exercise every day. I am more or less on my ass all the time when working from home and ofc with no commute that limits the chance for exercise further. Will look into those routines and just do it. I need to get myself a proper routine as my sleep is a mess too: find it hard to get to sleep and then harder to get up. Worst thing is I blame myself for getting into this state, of no one else is to blame but I am really hard on myself.
  14. Thank you Irony was I was doing a weights/cardio combo and my doctor told me to concentrate just on the cardio! I felt it was wrong as weights/cardio was what I did before, ofc muscle aiding the calorie burning process! I think a problem of mine is that i'm on my ass most of the time. I need to check out that page more, see what I can do to step things up.
