  1. Okay, not going to lie, saw the topic and was interested because "zombies" buuuut... Once I get back to land, I'm totally checking out Zombies,Run! I am a person who does not like running (mentally mostly) so this sounds like something that could help me get back into the swing of things! I'll look into joining the accountabilibuddies group once I'm back in a weekish. See y'all then!
  2. Lisawho, Hey glad to see another person who's going military officer! I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum, having done Naval ROTC and am now at the end of my active duty service obligation. If you have any questions about the military, the Marines, or Officer-ship in general, please let me know! I can give you a good insiders look into what you're getting into. Having gone to a school whose ROTC leadership was run by the Marines, I do have a little bit of insight into the Corps that most Navy guys don't, unless you're a green-belt sailor. As a blue-belt sailor (Not in the Amphib community==>Less interaction with the Marines) I can still give you a good idea about general military knowledge. In any case, your focus on upgrading your PRT scores is great, as physical fitness is at the core of what the Corps wants out of their officers. Especially if you're going to work with marines, since they do love their PT. The advice about bodyweight and cross-fit workouts is sound. It's very much synergistic with what the Marines do on a daily basis, and getting involvedwith cross-fit will help your speed, strength, and endurance. Remember, Marines aren't just distance runners or pull-up machines. You're humping a 50 pound pack and 12 pound rifle in your hands for a couple of miles. Running is great, but running with weight is harder. I'm sure you're going to do fine. I'd reccomend splitting out weight lifting and aerobic/endurance workouts so that you alternate them. Will help on your recovery. And as always, working out with people is much better than working out alone. Find a workout buddy and go to town! Good luck! -C
  3. Alright, I know it has been a LOOONG time since I last posted here...um...wait, no seriously, I'm totally good at math...let's see...carry the 9....and...wow, 14 days. So, it's been two weeks >.> My bad. So there's a lot to catch up on. First off, I'm out at sea. Which means I'm on a boat. Surrounded by water. And the floor moves. Which is weird if you've never been on a boat before, but I consider myself to be a seasoned veteran, and this ship is CONSIDERABLY larger than the last one I was on, so I barely feel it. However, it does make some workouts REALLY hard. Especially if you're doing a lunge and the floor rises up to meet you...or you're trying to transition from Warrior Three to Twisting Half Moon Yoga stances and the floor starts bucking from side to side. Take THAT my poor core muscles! make it even HARDER! #Didn'tknowyogawassohard Alright, so to catch you all up, I've been working diligently at the P90X workout routine and the results are visible 3 weeks in. No photo yet since there's no good way to upload them to the computer here (Just trust me on that). So once I'm back on land I'll be able to put up a "this was me 3.5 weeks ago" differential. As for diet, it's been working well...as I've been working 16ish hour days a lot and some of my meals consist of Special K crisp bars. "100 calories for breakfast" would have been a curse to myself 5 years ago.... Tomorrow starts week 4 of P90X, which is the recovery week, so the diet is essential for keeping what I have lost off. I will also be able to post up the excel sheets of the workouts I've done and the progressions I've made on them (In terms of reps vs. weight/resistance bands) if there's interest. Hope things have been going well for you guys, and I can't wait to get back (and have more reliable internet that doesn't crap out on me every 10 minutes) and chill with y'all soon. Cheers. -C
  4. Hey guys! No, you didn't lose me. Unfortunately since I'm an Active Duty member of the US Navy, I do have to go out to sea for a while sometimes. This happens to be one of those times. Aaaaand, I'm still out there floating on a great blue expanse of "oh holy crap it goes on forever". Should be back around the middle of the month. Email/internet is not always the most reliable out at sea, as many of the military and former military members on the site may tell you, so it's been hard for me to get not only time to post (INSURV and MTT for those of you who speak Navy-Military), but also the reliable access to post as well. (Maybe see if we can get a mobile-version of the website? Would totally make things easier on slow internet computers) Good news is, I haven't missed out on any of my workouts and I should have a post to catch everyone up shortly. Once I'm back in port, I'll be able to get some before/after photos since I'll be officially done with P90X phase 1 by that point. Cheers! -C
  5. Day 7 done! You know, I never before took my days off as specialized stretching days. Normally, I would just stretch before and after a workout (Which I still do) but never really on my rest day. Though, I will say that stretching on the rest day? SOOOO good for the muscles. I feel like....120% better than I did when I woke up. Back to work on the job hunt and Master's Capstone. Chest and back tomorrow! -C
  6. So this is going to be my daily log of workouts on my path towards my goal as seen in Act 1 of my signature link. As I'm multitasking while writing this, it will lack a lot of the snazzy quips I'm used to writing, but hey we can't be perfect all the time. So really, I'm starting off with Day 6 instead of Day 1, but I blame that on temporal paradoxes, a slightly confused cockatrice, and an impossible to open jar of pickles. Today I started off with the Kenpo X portion of the p90X workout for the day. It was very similar in a way to the old martial arts training I did in the past, though the method to which the instructor and the video demonstrated them were very odd. A lot of it is a vernacular thing rather than a form thing. Still, it was good to get back into doing quick hand/foot drills. Tomorrow is Stretch X. Which shouldn't be too bad. Time to keep truckin! -C
  7. Hey guys! I'll have a daily update tracker going on here shortly, but with the Easter season upon me, I've had little time outside of everything else to get back on the computer to give updates. First off, I'm glad to have done my service, and thank you for the well wishes. Secondly, to all of the ambassadors who've contacted me, I'm really looking forward to doing more in the future! I'll be sure to visit your guild sections here as I continue on my fitness goals (while promising not to Patient Zero any of ya) to get some more info on what's going on in regards to my lifestyle change and other tidbits of nerd-dom. As for the 9K, I did the Wounded Warrior Project/Fenway Park 9K in Boston two years ago. While I didn't have a good race time on it (mostly because i'm not a runner, nor do I have really good running technique nor particularly enjoy super long runs) it was enjoyable because I was able to do it with friends. So doing another 9K would essentially be overcoming an fitness obstacle that I look upon with some dread and loathing and is more of a mental win more than anything else. No offense to the Scouts out there, but marathons/distance running isn't really my thing. I should have a post to start my daily tracker tomorrow, along with some day-to-day discoveries (like holy crap yoga is hard #+1Druids) and weekly photo updates on physique changes. And thanks for the support guys!
  8. As a fellow fan of not-running (I'm more of the slow shuffling zombie right now) I can feel your pain. If you keep at it you'll do fine, and don't be afraid to try a bunch of different "run better" tricks. Music helps me sometimes, but not always. I'm more of an "audiobook and run a long non-looping trail" type. Good luck man! You're gonna do awesome!
  9. Alright folks, it's time for everyone's favorite resident zombie to post up his plan for what the hellBuySomeApples! he is going to do as hismain quest in the path to a fitter, (and harder to run away from when brains are on the menu) bag of bones! My main method of control for this is to start and finish the P90x workout regimine (Classic as I'm out of shape) and then look at getting into something else as time moves on. While the whole goal is something that would take much greater than 6 weeks to accomplish (dropping 45 lbs in that amount of time is incredibly unhealthy), I do plan on my checkpoints being roughly 4-6 weeks each. This first goal is aiming to get me back into shape, and get some body definition. I do want to do some more endurance type things such as running, but I'll save those for acts 2 and 3. Main Quest: Reach <185 lbs or 7% body fat, whichever comes first. I'm using a "whichever comes first" because I'm aware that if I am putting on muscle, I may not be able to get down to less than 185 based on my body type. So there are two metrics. Main Quest Checkpoints: 1) Complete P90x phase I Once the first phase is done, the rest should come easier, as after 4 weeks, it'll be more of a normal, daily thing. 2) Reduce the amount of net caloric intake I have per week to 10,000. (Roughly 1,400 calories per day). I'm not a physical trainer or a nutritions expert, so some advice on Checkpoint 2 would be awesome. My mother is a very big proponent of calorie counting as a way of losing the excess body fat, so I'm going to give it a go. I say "net caloric intake" here to differentiate the gains versus the loss due to workout. So if I ate 2000 calories in a day but burned 600 calories in my workout, I'd make quota. 3) Eliminate snacking between meals with the exception of low calorie fruits. Kind of goes hand-in hand with Checkpoint 2, but the mid-meal snacking is really one of the biggest killers for me. Whether it be chips or wheat thins, it's where the bulk of my excess food comes from. As such, I'm going to try to curb those cravings with foods like watermelon, cantelope, and other water-heavy fruits. Side Quests 1) Get a new job offer to facilitate my seperation from the military. I'm being honorably discharged from the military after compleating my obligated active service time. So, that also means I have to find a new job. *Crosses fingers on the job offers* 2) Run a 9 K I've done one before, but that was back when I was in better shape. It would be good to get another under my belt. 3) Find someone who can teach me Parkour. I've said before that I kind of want to cross-class to assassin. To me, Parkour an a lot of martial arts can go hand in hand. I think it would be interesting to learn some. 4) Go shirtless at the beach without being self-conscious Probably the easiest of the sidequests depending on how you look at it. Mostly a mental thing, but it'll help me to get to a point where I can say "Damn, I made progress." There's the goals! Day one started yesterday, lets see what Day two brings! Cheers -C
  10. Thanks! I'll be sure to. And I was going more for Gamma World than Fallout, but hey, both of them work!
  11. Ah Spark! So we meet again! And so you know, I curse your sudden and inevitable betrayal that I don't know is going to happen but expect anyways!
  12. Braaaaaiii-*cough* God, I hate it when that happens.... Hello all you warm-blooded beating heart fellows! I'm Ceysth, your average radioactive zombie come back from the dead to terrorize and eat share with all of you my quest to restoring myself back to a better me. Here's a little info about me to get you guys started: I'm a 26 year old male, 5'11" and 220 lbs. I'm out of shape (21% body fat last I checked) and I'm looking at getting back into a physically fit status. Back in high school, I used to be an instructor in TaeKwonDo (hence why I'm connecting with the Monks here) and I would very much like to get back to that level of fitness. Since high school, I joined the military and became a nuclear engineer (Hence the radioactive part of the race) and due to the incredibly high academic requirements of that job, have pretty much let myself go. So what am I looking for? Well, I'd like to get the strength and flexibility of a martial artist's body back and to raise my endurance as well (maybe cross class a bit into some assassin? Shadowdancer anyone?) I'll have my goals posted up in a bit, but for now I just want to join a friendly community of like-minded nerds (who are 20% cooler than the non-like minded nerds who troll) Strengths: Adaptive and able to learn new things quickly. With the right motivation, I can be very very dedicated. I also love Apples more than Applejack. I consider that a strength. Weaknesses: I'm a foodie...which is a double-edged sword. I love eating good food, and trying new food. But that leads to caloric intake problems. So that's me in a nutshell, and I can't wait to get started working out with you guys and leading the charge into a fitter nerd-dom. Cheers.
