  1. I chew gum once in a while. When I'm at work sometimes I get nauseous (hospitals have gross stuff and I can't prevent it) but peppermint seems to help. I had been having peppermint mints, which worked much better, but since those were definitely not paleo and I was ingesting sugar I went towards gum, which has few calories, if any. Brushing my teeth or mouthwash would work just as well or even better but there isn't always time, and gum is a quick fix.
  2. Ahhh thanks for the dog tricks! Love it. Pup and I are still dealing with some separation anxiety...actually my neighbors have complained a few times it's been so rough. We are trying a few more tricks this week. Ended up losing on the Whole 30, but restarting this weekend. I have been having having issues with my wisdom teeth (again) and ended up not being able to chew, so I gave into yogurt, mashed potatoes (not homemade), soup, and ice cream (felt soooooo good). I didn't feel worse after eating non-whole 30 foods, but I had only been on it for 12 days. I will restart by Monday, maybe sooner if I think I can eat more solid food. I have delicious foods in the freezer that are whole 30 approved that I've actually been craving (delicious chicken and some Moroccan meatballs from Well Fed) but it's all too rough to chew right now. Made it to the gym a few times, working mostly on form. Daily walks for 30-60 minutes with pup. Additionally she likes my bodyweight workouts because I make them into games with her, like I squat to pick up her ball to fetch, sprint around the apartment with her (really breaking a sweat when we go for 20-30 minutes!), and planks are her favorite because while she is harrassing me I try as hard as possible to not go down on my knees. Surprisingly enough, I'm failing on the mobility! For a while all I was doing was MWODs, but I haven't done one in like a week. Tonight that shall change.
  3. Woooo glad to have KW updates! Sorry about the laptop. Not fun at all
  4. I cried sooooooooo much during this book...
  5. Too often. My favorite is when I read something scary, then sufficiently creep myself out so that I can't sleep and have to read more of something else (sarcasm, but it definitely happened last night).
  6. Went to the gym this morning to find it was closed. Apparently there was an issue with a treadmill and they closed the whole thing. I said I was only planning on using a barbell but they didn't care I'm definitely going to enjoy it when next year I *hopefully* have my own house and can just put in a silly bench. That would solve that problem.
  7. The winner of the poll is American Gods by Neil Gaiman! (And it's about time. Third time I've nominated it ) Please use this thread for discussions. If you are going to post a spoiler, please post it like this or something of the sort so everyone knows not to read ahead if they haven't finished it: *SPOILER* ____________________ Happy reading nerds!
  8. I've had major issues as well with hormones/ovaries that just hate me. I've been on the pill for a while now but I'm scared to quit it just yet for fear of what will happen. I think you're doing great with even noticing to do a Whole 30 to kind of "cleanse"! Keep it up
  9. Random question guys: Has anyone found success/heard of successful strength gains with only 2 days/week? Finding it hard to get there 3x/week because of location, my work schedule, dog, etc. Not saying I can't work out 7 days a week, I can and do (bodyweight and lots of walking), but actually driving the 20 minutes to the only gym around with barbells is hard. My goal for the challenge is to get there 3 days a week but only making it once this week. I'm not able to put a bench in my apartment due to spacing issues, money, and I live on the 3rd floor so dropping weights might be a terrible idea.
  10. That is exactly what I did I know I really cannot have more than 1-2 in the house though, or else they will end up like the coconut date rolls (disappeared in a few hours....) I might try a Thundershirt. I've also looked into the Calming Collars, which a few people swear by (and was recommended by her vet, who said "it works for some, not for others, I have no idea.") This past week she has been better, where I have been leaving multiple toys in her crate when I leave. For workouts: I've been stretching every day....I feel extremely flexible. Tomorrow morning I am going to do a yoga video I found. I've also been doing some bodyweight stuff every day, and I definitely feel it but honestly I don't enjoy it nearly as much as lifting. It will be very cool to do some things but I find myself more working on skills like practicing pistol squats than doing multiple sets of half pistol squats to gain strength...well really I have no idea what I'm doing on bodyweight stuff. Walks every day, today being the longest/fastest at 3 miles in 50 minutes. Really not bad for a sniffing dog. She has been doing much better on the leash too Lastly, I really really need to get to the gym and do some heavy lifting, or else I might get kicked out of the warriors. I'm itching to get there, but it's been difficult time-wise. I'll go tomorrow bright and early, then Mother CH flies in and we're going out of town. I *want* to go Monday morning and Wednesday morning after work, but it's so much easier said than done. If I can get on a MWF plan regardless of my work schedule, I'll be golden.
  11. After the voting ends (Wednesday night) I'll announce the winner and start a new thread for discussion.
  12. If I had thought about it before I started book 4 of the Game of Thrones series, I would probably read all of the ones nominated for this challenge.
  13. I'm going to Taiwan in April (just booked it) so I was planning on trying to learn some Mandarin before going. I might give this a shot! I haven't read through the whole website yet, but I have no idea where to start even.
  14. Corey you better get your clan to band together...looks like Enders Game might have to wait 7 more weeks...
  15. For any non-fiction books...Devil in the White City. SO GOOD. For my career, I am reading The Emperor of all Maladies...but it's kind of career specific. I also liked How to Win Friends and Influence People for interpersonal relationships. The Paleo Solution and The Power of Habit were both really good. I am probably going to re-read each this year.
  16. Haha thanks! I might not get to them all but I will certainly try. Have you looked at Pixel of Ink? It has a lot of free Kindle books/cheap deals.
  17. I'm just finishing book 3 now and have the rest lined up...I hope to finish them by the end of January (when I have to return them to the library....) I was thinking it would be 100 books this year too, but then I realized that the specific books I want to read are quite lengthy or take longer than most others (finish Game of Thrones series, Anna Karenina, Crime and Punishment for examples, but I plan on going through some Dickens too). I dont think your goals are crazy at all!
  18. Time to vote for the book. You can only vote once. If I messed up the poll let me know....luckily I have all night off and can figure it out
  19. Since we had so few nominations I am just putting it up now. I figured we should wait until we got more, but no more came, so it'll be up in a few minutes.
  20. Haha yeah shes amazing! I have no idea how she does it. I am extremely nauseous come 3-4am, no matter what I eat for lunch. I have even tried not eating, no luck.
  21. 1/4/13: 2 mile walk, about an hour. 1/5/13: 1.8 mile walk, 40 minutes. My speed entirely depends on the dog and the route. If she has sniffed out a certain route before, then we are good, but when we switch it up (yesterday) she is sniffing like crazy. On working towards my life goal with her though...she learned to fetch! It's soooo cute! I've been 100% on the Whole 30 so far, so 5 days in (if I make it until next Saturday I have beaten my past record). Not feeling any better but not feeling worse. The one thing I really dislike is that fruit is kind of a no-no. I just really want an apple, but since I'm craving it I'm especially not supposed to have it. And I can never tell what's actually hunger yet, so I'm not sure if I'm craving a sweet potato or if I need more carbs. I've started dreaming about non-Whole30 approved foods, but really random things. Like, crackers and peanut butter! A few trip ups so far: I still hate vegetables. Such an issue. I'm forcing myself to eat them...but no I don't like them. Also, I undercooked my chicken that I took to work, so I under ate at lunch and made up for it with my dinner (or breakfast, since it was at 8am). I wasn't that hungry so it wasn't a huge deal. If any pros are reading this...what are your suggestions for when family is in town/trips away? I will be staying at my cousins a bit south of here and they're cooking. I know whenever we go out I should be okay, but I'm worried about when they prepare foods. Hoping to make it to the gym tomorrow morning, but it'll be after a long shift and I'm not sure I'll be up to it honestly.
