  1. Another quick update, really pushed myself on Thursday with rowing, burpees, and single unders. I even surprise my coach with the jump rope. Then, I got my first unmodified situps that I had ever done. We had been modifying them for a month and I just decided to try them. two sets of three is all I managed in the tabata timing we were doing but it's a start
  2. I have been moving so many rutabagas this week that I forgot to update you guys on it! This perfectly fit my workout schedule as the next day I went to the box we were required to do med ball carry runs. (The penalty was ten burpees if you dropped the ball/rutabagas. We became very close on these runs!) And then a lot of lifting this week as well on top of carrying the ball around but I haven't looked back to get my exact numbers. But I've moved a lot of weight around this week!
  3. Popping in quickly to say that I made it to the box today. It was exhausting and I might have slightly pulled something in my shoulder. Will update later though. Hope everyone is rocking their challenges!
  4. Stats and grades for the first two week of the challenge are updated in the first post!
  5. Thanks for the chuckle with the picture lol and for your support! I still find it hard to believe that you enjoy burpees! That's awesome about the jump rope, it's good trying something new and realizing that you enjoy it. I don't mind jump rope but I have a long way to go there. The first time we did it, I was practically skipping like a little kid because I couldn't do both feet off the ground at a time lol now I'm up to around ten single unders before having to stop. And I totally agree about not saying you can't do something. I said that a lot in the beginning, I couldn't do a burpee, I couldn't jump rope, I couldn't do weighted overhead squats, I couldn't run, I couldn't hold pushup form and walk across an agility ladder but I've done all those things and more. It's really about letting yourself be afraid and then doing anyway. Whether you can't do it, you suck at it, or you're surprisingly good you have to try all the things you say you can't do. That's what I'm learning and liking about CrossFit. Also that you have to be willing to look silly or come in last lol Hahaha, I saw this before going to the box today and we had KB swings. Couldn't help but think about the name as I was working through them lol That is awesome! Let me know how it goes. I know it's scary to start with but they do say you should do one thing every day that scares you and CrossFit will totally do that to start with. You can do anything you set your mind to. Don't be too afraid of it, every move is able to be scaled and you will find tons of supportive people there to walk beside you and support you along the journey. One of the best decisions I've made was to try it out just over a month ago. Now I'm on my third week of five days a week (assuming I don't miss this week) and absolutely love it. What day do you start? Today's workout was grueling and I did not complete it in the time cap (so much for feeling tough for doing yesterday's RX lol). 100m med ball run, 50kb swings, 100m med ball run, 50 hand-release pushups, 100m med ball run, 50 sit-ups, 100m med ball run, 50 squats with med ball, 100m med ball run, all to be completed under the fifteen minute time cap. I made it through 25 modified sit-ups but I pushed myself hard. Hand release pushups are way harder than normal ones for me. That was the first time I actually watched sweat drip off of my face onto the mat to make a puddle beneath me. Also, the first time I laid down on the mat after the workout and made a sweat angel (was actually trying to catch my breath but was that sweaty XD if I can get my phone to cooperate I will post a picture later). Disappointed that I didn't get it but I will get further next time. We did split jerks today and I got 1x1@95 which made me feel tough and I got 10 single unders in a row, a personal record. I have sucked about updating the first post but will do so now. The weight is down some, yay! Especially since I know I am building muscle with all these workouts. The measurements are actually up but I'm attributing that to one of two things. Either muscle under the fat or faulty readings. My tape actually broke at some point (I blame the cat) so it is no longer retractable. I'm measuring myself just using the tape now instead of being able to put it in the holder and retract. So I might have been measuring too tightly to begin with or just adjusting to how to measure now. Either way, I'm not going to stress but keep pushing forward.
  6. Congrats on getting your first chin-up! Keep pushing yourself and you'll be doing them like a pro before long!
  7. I'm really excited that you've decided to join and push yourself alongside of me! Just make sure you aren't trying to change too much at once because that gets exhausting. And try to be active on the forums when you can be, getting support from other people really makes it that much easier to feel accomplished. I know you can do this!
  8. Ouch! I hope you didn't hurt your ankle too badly today. You can't seem to get any good luck your way but I love that you aren't letting it stop you. Good luck on an intense week! Keep being awesome!
  9. Remember that you're only human and you're going to slip up some on the games thing. I totally get the slippery slope thing though. You're making lots of positive changes right now and pushing yourself in a lot of ways. Keep at it and don't get discouraged if you aren't perfect every day; you'll get there!
  10. I completely understand about family drama draining you. My family has been going through some stuff with my sister for a couple of years now. In the end, there's usually not a lot you can do about difficult situations except focus on your part of it (if you have any). I've had to learn to let go of other people's issues as their own. I can't fix them, I can't make them want to fix things, and therefore there is no reason to chose to be miserable by letting them affect you. Not sure if that's the kind of family stress that you have going on but I hope that things get better for you soon. Keep your head up and keep working toward your goals and what you can change. You're doing amazing!
  11. I don't think I've ever met anyone that liked burpees lol I want to get there though. I'm thinking about possibly making burpees part of my next challenge to improve on them because I want to get proper form. My box is new (only a month old!) and right now as long as we're getting a chest to the ground and clapping overhead they aren't too strict on form yet. But I want to be able to do the movements well and not feel like I'm going to die! That or maybe lunges . . or running . . . who knows. Still have a few weeks to improve on those skills before the next challenge so we'll see. haha thanks for the laugh. I have learned this and am working to dominate them. I will update my stats in a minute but just wanting to touch base. I'm super pumped because I Rx'd my first workout today! For those of you not familiar with CrossFit, there is a workout each day and when you do it exactly as prescribed, it's RX. If you modify any movement in the workout, you don't complete it RX. Up until now, I've had to modify something in every workout whether it was the reps, weight, or movement. But today I didn't! There were multiple parts to today. First off was one of my least favorite parts, a 400m run. I've gotten better since I started but running is tough for me. Took me three minutes and eight seconds to complete it, almost double of anyone else at the box so far. I could be upset about that but I knew going in that I was going to be last. A month ago, I probably would have taken me longer to complete that distance if I could run any of it. At least now I'm able to run at least half of the 400. (After jogging two 100m sets just before no less!). I absolutely adore the coaches at my box. I was coming up to the last hundred meters and found my coach waiting on me to run back the rest of the distance with me and encourage me to push through it. So what if I was the slowest? I did it and that's better than everyone just sitting around wishing their lives would change. After that we did pull-ups (ring rows for me) and dips. Those were neither horrible or great. Then came the next part of the workout. 50 calorie row, 25 ground to overheads with a ten minute time cap. The novice rx weight was 55 pounds and I decided to try it even though it was a lot of weight to lift that many times after rowing. I finished in eight minutes and fifty five seconds. I didn't even realize that I'd done the novice level rx until the coach came over about halfway through and told me. That certainly made me push harder to finish. It's a small achievement, yes, but I'm excited about it!
  12. Keep up the awesome work! You did great helping build our shelter. Hopefully that different workout will help you level up in the angry birds workout!
  13. So I'm not doing so well on the mini challenge. I mean to make time for writing, I really do but I've only managed it one night out of the last four. =/
  14. How is it that I missed your threat until now friend? Congrats on the great grades that you've gotten thus far though I'm not all that surprise. You're awesome with your school work! I think you're taking on a lot this challenge so just be sure not to beat yourself up if you mess up something. Focus on the good things that you are doing instead of on something where you might not do quite as well as you wanted to do. You're doing great!
  15. Subscribing and catching up from the Renaissance Rebels thread. Looks like you're setting yourself some pretty big goals for this challenge. That's awesome! Be careful not to beat yourself up too much when you make a bad decision. So many of us notice the tiny bit that we fail and don't recognize all the things that we do right. Sure you may have gotten the garlic knots at the restaurant but you didn't garlic knots and pizza so that's a win. Baby steps all the way and then they'll get easier and easier. Hope the new job is going well and you'll be back around with updates soon!
  16. Not boring at all! I'm loving learning more about it or it wouldn't inspire me to go out and play! I love all the pictures and the details that you're bringing us!
  17. Finally catching up on people who have been posting in my thread and I have to say, wow you've taken on a lot this challenge. I hope that your knee checks out okay and you'll be able to get back into things the way you want but awesome job for not letting the 'I'm injured, can't work out' mindset take over. You kept pushing and doing what you could do and that's great. I absolutely love the idea of making a list of things that scare you that you want to get over, so much so that I'm actually considering adopting that somewhat into my own epic quest somewhere down the road when I work on it. I laughed a little about taking a city bus at night. I lived in Australia for a year and was terrified of the bus system, especially at night so I totally understand that one. Even in a major city though there was no real reason to be as once I did it, it was totally fine lol Subscribing, keep up the awesome work!
  18. Looks like you're taking on some tough changes in this challenge. Quitting soda is a really tough one because it saps so much of your energy until you get it completely out of your system. But it is so worth the struggle because you feel amazing once you aren't having it any more. It looks like you're definitely rocking that part of your challenge. And you've really bumped up the exercise this week with the mini-challenge that we had so great job on that! Keep up the good work, I subscribed and will be stalking!
  19. Yikes! That workout looks brutal. I have heard of these horrible things called burpee pull-ups but have yet to have them in a workout. I thought the burpee box jumps were bad enough *twitch* But the kettlebells are awesome, I actually like working with them now. I'd definitely recommend trying them out. Thanks! So little update today. I went to my parents last night for my dad's birthday and knocked out the trying sweet potatoes. They had made some in the smoker and they were actually really good, especially with cinnamon on the. So that's technically two foods this week.
  20. Subbing and following from Renaissance Rebels, just been horribly busy last week. Firstly, let me say that I'm super impressed with your mental toughness and how you're handling the surgery news. Not only did you take it in stride, you adjusted and continued on in the face of it. You are an inspiration when it comes to dealing with tough times. Remember to take it one day at a time and just focus on getting through that! Also, congrats on improving your body weight exercises. You are doing amazing on that. And down two pants sizes is another great accomplishment. You're doing super and I'm excited to see where the rest of your journey takes you.
  21. Thanks for the great reminder ShadowLion! I blew it on the mini-challenge yesterday as well. I worked out, worked eight hours, had a mini date night with hubby (dinner and groceries lol), came home and made a cake for my dad's birthday today, and then watched a movie with hubby. Or rather he watched a movie and I fell asleep about forty-five minutes into it lol I'm hoping to work on the mini challenge some today but I'm not going to have much time. My dad's birthday is today so after I get off work I have to run home and finish his cake then we're going down there for dinner, hot tub (yay! sore muscles will feel better), and camp fire, then going to the drive in with my husband to watch a couple of movies. I may just make up the time on Sunday because I'm off work and my husband has to work. But I'm going to drag my notebook and my kindle along with me in case I get bored or find a few free minutes here or there.
  22. I've been catching on your thread for the last several days (much reading to be done) and I have to say, absolutely awesome job no everything. There is so much that I love about your thread that I'm not sure where to start. First of all, I love the way that you're educating all of us about things that are so important to you. It's awesome to feel that connection to you personally and realize how much you love everything that you're talking about. All this outdoor talk makes me want to go on a hike or play outside, two things I almost never do in the business of everything going on around me. Another thing that I love about your thread is that you're very focused and intentional about what you're doing even though you're doing a lot. I really admire that because I'm often one of those who throws myself wholeheartedly into something even if I'm not exactly ready for it. So it's an encouragement and a challenge to see someone who is intentional with what they're doing without pushing themselves too far. And you're real about everything whether you do well or not you're here and updating us. Keep up the amazing work!
  23. Haha I was intimidated by them at first but now I kind-of like them. Actually, I suppose that CrossFit was the same was. Super terrifying til I did it and realized that not only could I do it, I could do well and push myself to be better. I'm actually disappointed that I had to work today and couldn't go to the team wod.
  24. I totally agree with what Dark Raider said above. There is a huge difference from wasting time to play a game when you have to get other things done and killing time while waiting on something else. Don't beat yourself up over that at all. You're doing awesome! And congrats on finishing up the editing work and all the other things you've done the past couple of days. You're slaying this challenge on every front so just keep being amazing and you've got this in the bag. It's such an inspiration to see you knocking out each aspect of your challenge.
  25. Thanks! The challenges are really a great way to get the support that you need to make it through this journey. None of us can do it alone so building that strong support team is essential. And there are so many good people on this site will and eager to help you reach your goals! Keep at it! So I made it back to the box today for more butt kicking (literally, we did tabata butt kickers today lol). The skill section was the snatch which is super hard and I suck at but I'll get there eventually. Then we did twenty minutes of kettlebell work. Four rounds of each: 12 right handed snatches, 12 left handed snatches, 12 right handed clean and jerk, 12 left handed clean and jerk, and then 24 one armed alternating Russian swings. The goal was to complete each round in the minute and prepare for the next one, only using the leftover seconds from that minute for rest. The coach said he wanted me to do all twenty rounds and I chuckled because several people hadn't completed it in the earlier class so I doubted that I could do it. Rather than doing the RX weight, I dropped down to the 18lb as I'm still building up strength. To start with, I was like 'really, there is no way I'll get through this'. Halfway through that attitude shifted to 'hey, maybe this won't kill me' and as that progressed further, it became 'I'm not going to let this beat me." It was quite enjoyable punching the ball down on the mat at the end of each set knowing I finished in time and finishing the swings with twenty odd seconds left. i just walked over to where the kettlebells are and put mine down like it was no big thing. So pumped about my progress in the box and disappointed that I can't go to open workout tomorrow because of work. Who would have thought I would feel that way. I also tried Cranberry Walnut Paleo Crunch today so yay for trying something new that I wasn't expecting. I'm also excited because hubby and I are going out tonight and I'm not going to stress about eating something tasty. I believe that cheat days are important to keep your metabolism guessing and not adjust to a lower calorie diet. And though I'm not specifically trying to watch my calories yet, I naturally do that when I exercise. So it's been a great week thus far and I'm looking forward to next week
