  1. I am not going to change my goals, right now its more something i am trying to be mindful of and incorporate where i can Ive always loved the idea of doing it but between the time it takes to prepare all the meals (not being able to just grab a meal out) and the added expense i never got fully on board. I am probably eating about 70% paleo right now, i still have some non paleo food but have eliminated a decent amount of it.
  2. I read through that article and while it makes me sad to see i am still in the obese range it reaffirms that although i have made progress already i have a long way to go. Now the main things i need to focus on are establishing a weight lifting routine that is a good fit for me and looking into going on the Paleo diet ( i had tried it once in the past for about 30 days and loved it).
  3. Great to see you getting into martial arts, i cant wait to get into Muay Thai myself. Keep up the good work!
  4. Thanks that defiantely makes me feel a bit better, that trainer definately wasnt to motivate just make me feel like less of a person for not wanting to give him hundreds of dollars a month for training.
  5. Update: I had my free consultation at the gym yesterday and it was a pretty big letdown. Turns out the "consultation" was only a sales pitch for personal trainer sessions and they refused to really discuss anything until you signed up for sessions. The one thing that did come out of the meeting though was finding out that i am at 31% body fat (ouch). That helps give me some perspective on how far i have to go, i am told 16%-20% is the recommended level for my age. On a more positive note i have ran on the treadmill two days in a row now doing HIIT runs, so far i haven't experienced any signals of injury or strain which is great and tells me that i have come a long way from when i started my first challenge.
  6. Yea it should be interesting.
  7. Update: So i have been doing a mix of walking, jogging, biking and various xbox fitness programs for the past week. I have missed one or two days but those were days where i worked 12 hour shifts and got a lot of moving around in during the day. This morning I went to the gym for the first time in years, i signed up for a 7 day trial at Anytime Fitness. I went on the treadmill for 20 minutes alternating between jogging and a fast walk. I started out going to the week one of c25k but found out very quickly that the week 1 was far to easy for me so i am going to try going to week 2 or 3 tomorrow morning and see how that feels. I have a consoltation with a trainer at the gym tomorrow afternoon and am hoping to tailor a free weight routine to compliment my long term goals, I will try to post another update later this week with how that went and what I will be incorporating into my routine. Thank you everyone for your continued support!
  8. Yeah I have been pretty busy lately so i didnt really get to participate in any of the between challenge activities but im back now.
  9. You are in luck, the plan is to have this challenge oozing with awesome. It's super effective!
  10. Honestly I am not sure how far it is, I will have to download one of the running apps to map the course for me and ill get back to you!
  11. Great challenge! I will hang around and watch for updates, this troll wont know what hit him!
  12. So my first challenge was a success, maybe not in the way i had originally hoped it would be but it set the groundwork for maintaining healthy habits. This second challenge will be my first challenge as a Scout and I am looking forward to becoming part of the guild. This round I am going to change my goals some. Goal 1: Be able to jog around town. There is a trail that goes around the outside of the small town i live in and at the moment I walk it at least 3 or 4 times a week. I am currently emulating the c25k method of alternating between a brisk walk and jogging and as i am ready increasing the duration of the jog. By the end of this challenge i would like to be able to jog at least 75% of the trail. Goal 2: Lose 7 pounds. This goal is pretty straight forward and should be easy to achieve, between doing a good bit of walking at work and going for walks, bike rides or doing an exercise program most days I am on the right course. The only thing that slows my progress right now is my diet, I have been very mindful of portion sizes however i still treat myself to ice cream or sodas at least a few times a week. As long as i maintain my level of exercise and use MFP to monitor the calories i consume each day losing 7 pounds during this challenge should be fairly easy Goal 3: Finish MMA Program. I use the Xbox Fitness app on my Xbox One once or twice a week and have been going through an MMA style workout, long term my goal is to get into martial arts specifically muay thai. The 30 minute workout program is a huge challenge for me at the moment and as of right now i cannot make it through 15 minutes of it without getting exhausted and feeling sore for the next two days, by the end of this challenge i would like to be able to complete the program. I will go back through and add more to this later on as i begin to refine my goals and means of measuring them. I just wanted to get something thrown together for now so i could start tracking and providing everyone with updates. Thank you all for your support!
  13. I agree with making the run pleasurable, however one concern i have is that i live in a pretty small town and dont have alot of options as far as places to run, anywhere i run is going to be on concrete. I have read in a couple places that jogging or running on concrete can be very damaging if you do it to often. What is your take on that and what do you do to avoid the damage?
  14. Good advice i have already started looking at those apps some. It seems like this would be alot easier to do on a treadmill to ease into things as it is easier to measure pace and distance. I am 240 pounds and 5'8" so i definately have some extra weight on but not an insane amount. I picked up a pair of running shoes today that fit more snug than the tennis shoes i usually wear, i think that will help quite a bit. Do you recommend any sort of special insert for shoes?
  15. Although the challenge is over i feel like this is the best place to post this. I jogged this weekend for the first time in about five years and it felt great! It was nothing like what i use to do but i was out walking and suddenly got the urge to push harder so i started jogging for about a block. After a block i switched back to walking for a few blocks and then ran another. The main reason I stopped after the block wasn't so much from being out of breath or tired but because i could feel my shins were starting to feel very tight and i was afraid i may injure myself. I am just looking for some advice from people on how i should approach starting to jog again without risking to much injury, i am still a pretty big guy but i feel like i can transition to jogging some. What precautions would you recommend?
