  1. Hi, Tianith. Your post inspired me to log on after months of inactivity on the NF forums. I was kind of in the same boat as you about eight months ago, but this is what inspired me: Being able to take care of myself as I get older. My mother is not in the best of health. She has a lot of health problems unrelated to her weight, but if she didn't weight as much (or had more muscle mass, at least), it might not be so hard on her. Luckily, she has her siblings to help out with the big things, and I help out with small weekly tasks (this isn't to say she takes advantage of us: she'd just do everything on her own until she collapsed from exhaustion). I don't want to end up like that. It sounds depressing, and maybe it is for some people, but it's actually been a really good source of inspiration for me. Knowing that I'm becoming stronger so I can stand on my own if needed, and becoming healthy enough to help others out keeps me going. I slide a bit, but I've been making slow and steady progress for the most part. I also found exercises and a nutrition plan that I enjoy following. It's easier to stay on track when you find something you like. For me, it's exercising at home - recumbent biking plus video games equals time flying I hope others chime in with their sources of inspiration as well. Hell, sometimes just reading through the forums for a few minutes gets me re-energized!
  2. Day 3: Fitness/Nutrition: Calories: 2015 Carbs: 85g (pretty far under, so this is a fail) Fat: 106g Protein: 154g (woot!) Did shovelglove for 15 minutes Went for an 18 min walk during my lunch break to drop off some bills (boo!) Biked for 50 minutes (went 9.2 miles) - lost track of time due to Deus Ex! Fun: Uh... played Deus Ex: Human Revolution for 50 minutes. I'm sneaking around in the TYM building right now. No writing, no drawing I'm watching the Packers vs Saints game. Go Pack! Misc: I may need to buy new pants this weekend, I think. My main go-to pants are kind of loose on me. Also, I need new everyday shoes for when I can't wear my Vibrams. Doh!
  3. A new reason to lose weight: my caloric intake should drop a bit, which means I won't have to eat so damn much. Trying to go mostly Paleo = tons of food. Oof!
  4. Day 2 of the challenge! Fitness/Nutrition: Calories: 1991 Carbs:114g Fat: 105g Protein: 147g Good! Did shovelglove for 15 minutes Did three circuits of Steve's Beginner Body Weight Workout (I actually did a few real push-ups in the first two circuits, AND I was able to hold my planks for 40~45 seconds each circuit!) Biked for 18 minutes (went 3.4 miles) Fun: Wrote for 30 minutes - tacked on another 300 or so words, so that was cool. Played some Monster Hunter Tri with friends online. Sooo much fun! Hit HR 9, and I have access to the Tundra now! I'm planning on weighing myself on Friday morning; we'll see if I've made any progress towards my weight loss goal! I might write some more, or I may just call it an early night. I spent way too much time messing around on Twitter last night, and I paid for it today with low energy
  5. That actually doesn't look too unhealthy, unless you forgot to include the 10 sticks of butter Ms. Deen always seems to throw in!
  6. Thanks! Yeah, I've never been able to do a pull up, ever :/ I'm amazed I can hang off my bar and not fall/die, to be honest!
  7. Day 1 of the Fall Challenge (09/06/11) Fitness/Nutrition: Goal values come from Dailyburn Calories: 1959 (should fall between 1912 and 2162) Protein: 144g (should fall between 142 and 244g) Carbs: 103g (should fall between 101 and 152g) Fats: 107g (should fall between 63 and 108g) Did shovelglove for 15 minutes Rode the stationary bike for 41 minutes (went 7.5 miles) Fun: Killed some mofos at the pod hotel in Deus Ex: Human Revolution for 45 minutes Wrote for 30 minutes (only 200 words or so; I had writer's block) Drew for 10 minutes (just real quick sketches for friends who were feeling down) Gonna watch the latest episode of Rizzoli & Isles, and then get ready for bed!
  8. Another first timer! Same here! Let's rock these challenges Also, this Super Hero Training Program sounds pretty interesting!
  9. A) Your title is awesome! Good luck on your challenge! Working it after surgery is pretty hardcore! I'd say to be careful, but lots of other people beat me to it
  10. Thanks! I hope I can control my blood pressure, but it is allll up in my family history. All my aunts and uncles are on medication on it, regardless of their health level - three are overweight, one is at a normal weight, and one is pretty much anorexic
  11. Hello hello! I figured I should post in the Recruit Introductions area, since I signed up and posted in the challenge threads right away >_>' I'm a Wisconsin girl who loves comics, gaming (both pen and paper AND video games), anime and manga (though I've fallen way behind on those), and other miscellaneous geeky things. I have been overweight pretty much since puberty. I did drop 60+ lbs a few years ago in a misguided attempt to win my ex-girlfriend back. When that didn't work, I slowly put all of the weight back on I don't know what happened, but a few months ago I woke up and said, "Eff this. I'm sick of being overweight and weak. Let's get in shape!" I went from 250ish to 230 in about three months, and am slowly making the transition to Paleo (slowly). I'm working on my strength (bodyweight workouts and sledgehammer exercises) while keeping the cardio (I usually play video games while riding my recumbent bike). My long term goals are to drop to about 170 or 180 (depending on what looks good on my frame) and eventually start heavier lifting (maybe even with barbells! Gasp!). After that, we'll see! OH! And I want to do a pull up! I've never been able to do one, ever. Right now I can pull myself up like, a half inch, which is WAY BETTER than I've ever done in my life. /sad Nice to meet everyone Let's do this!
  12. Hello, everyone! I'm pretty nervous, and I'm pretty new to the site, but I signed up specifically for this six week challenge, so... here goes? kjdawson80's Fall Challenge (aka "WTF did I sign myself up for?") Current Stats: 30 year old female (turning 31 this month!)5'10" ish230 lbs (as of this morning)No pics yet, but I'll take some tonight when I get home...Fitness/Nutrition Goals: Hit ALL of my macro nutrient goals (I'm using DailyBurn to keep track of that; haven't been successful at all since I started); that means eating enough protein and calories, dammit!Continue doing the Beginner's Bodyweight Circuits, and graduate to doing at least 10 full push-ups! I'm currently at 3 or 4 before my arms say, "Screw this, we're out!"Do at least 3 hours of cardio a week (I usually ride my recumbent bike while playing video games). I know this may seem excessive, but my therapist recommended 4 to 6 hours of exercise a week to help keep my depression in check.Get down to 220 lbs by the end of the challenge!Fun Goals: Get back into drawing! Do studies for at least a half hour 5x a week!Get back into writing for fun! Write out scenes and stuff for at least a half hour 5x a week!Clear at least one video game out of my backlog!Life Goals: Pay off my medical bills! I threw out my back a few months ago, and I had about $1200 in medical bills from the physical therapy. I'm down to $600 now, but still. Ouch.Maybe see if I can lower my blood pressure enough to come off these beta blockers. High blood pressure is all up in my family tree, but maybe I can luck out. Maybe.LET'S DO THIS.
