  1. Let's see, had a fabulous weekend so that last week's suckage is a mere memory (and a forgettable one at that!). Friday's Wrap-up: Quest 1. Bootcamp strength day - nope. Failed. I was sleeping incredibly poorly last week so I just needed the extra shut-eye. Quest 2. Right around 25 total grams of sugar, very very little added sugar, that's a win! Quest 3. Yeah, that whole no sleep thing. . . Mindfulness: Did a quick meditative walk before my big conference call on Friday. Although I had my phone with me, I didn't look at it and just concentrated on breathing and what a nice day it was. Saturday's Wrap-up: Quest 1. Strength training - finally! Yay!! It was awesome! Quest 2. Not so hot. Wife and I had a fabulous date night and I got a bubble tea (which is so hard to find where I live). There's a lot of sugar in it, but it was really yummy. Quest 3. No run because strength training. Quest 4. Mindfulness. Worked hard to re-shape my mindset around shopping (not my favorite activity - but I did buy an Aquaman comic and Superman polo shirt) and being out late (for us) while the kids had a babysitter. I did a good job of thinking I'm fat when I was trying on clothes at L.L. Bean and even got some new shirts! Yay!! Oh yeah and we got to visit our puppy! He's 6 1/2 weeks old so we get to take him home in a couple weeks! Here he is: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1844yvmoc1fkarj/2016-04-23%2014.04.07.jpg?dl=0 His name is Harrison Arthur. My wife and I are history nerds and name our dogs after presidents. This one is cute because our son's are named William and Henry. (Let me know if you get it!) Sunday's Wrap-Up: Quest 1. No strength training but lots and lots of yardwork and heaving lifting of branches. Quest 2. I did really well right up until s'mores for dessert after a cook-out. My youngest son, Hank (a/k/a Henry) didn't want his and I could just let it go to waste! Quest 3. No run because errands with boys (WillWill got a new baseball glove and I caved and got both boys batting gloves and big league chew) and yard work. Mindfulness. A couple of things, I bought some new workout sports bras and had to practice lots of mindfulness when I had to go up a size from what I thought I was. But the bras are really comfy and came highly recommended. Also, my wife was going through one of her perfectionistic-housewifey days where she thinks everything has to be super-neat and perfect. That's hard to accomplish in our house because we really haven't fully moved in yet. But instead of getting angry and letting my anxiety take over, I was able to tell her how I was feeling and let the rest of it go! When my anxiety was really bad, that would have degenerated in a day-ruining fight. So I consider that a major win. Monday has just gotten started! Let's go and get at it Rangers!
  2. I regret to inform the rest of the Tully house, that I failed in my quest to complete 250 meters of swimming. The pool was rather elusive this weekend. I hope to redeem myself in this week with House Martell. I will attempt to run a 5K in under 45 minutes (I know that is a laughable time, but I ran it with my wife who was going slowly).
  3. @WorldSparrow stole my suggestion about checking his pee! I hope he's doing marginally better. . . .
  4. Ok! Finally caught up! And, at the risk of being a total outcast here, I'm totally lost on the gun talk. We didn't have them growing up; I married a Quaker woman, we live at a Quaker school and our boys attend said Quaker school. All that being said, to each their own! (Just don't be dumb). And I continue to love the write-ups!
  5. THANK YOU!! Well, just when I thought the week couldn't get any worse it did. Nothing like getting yelled for something you have no control over (from a complete stranger). If I only could do this. . . So, let's see yesterday: Quest 1: Bootcamp schedule - this week has been off, but I did a run in yesterday and I plan on strength training tomorrow. Quest 2: Sugar yesterday was great! As in, I didn't consume a lot of it. Quest 3: Ran! Yay! Except my Garmin died 1/2 mile in, but I had my phone, so I totaled 2.75 miles. Not too shabby (and my pace was faster than running with the wifey-poo). Mindfulness: So much mindfulness going on! Lots of deep breathing, did some walks around the building. Today: Quest 1: Bootcamp - strength training tomorrow. Quest 2: Sugar failed today. I had a pop (pepsi). BUT my wife surprised at work with an Italian hoagie and the pop and when your wife does something awesome like that, you can't say no. Especially because I felt like crying out of frustration most of the day. (Yes, Aquamom can be sensitive!) Quest 3: Ran yesterday, no run today. Mindfulness: Listened to a guided meditation before getting out of bed this morning to help my set my frame of mind.
  6. Happy Belated Birthday! Glad I got to finally catch up! Interesting idea of working out at night. . . I'm usually a work-out-in-the-morning type of person.
  7. So true! Nothing beats feeling good! This week has been a rough start and yesterday my sugar quest failed (there was orange pop at my client conference! I only had one). Anyway, I need some super-strong vibes to get me through this week so I'm snagging this picture that WildWolf posted earlier because this how I feel (Well, I actually I feel like screaming I AM THE PRESIDENT!!! because I'm president of our practice area's state bar association and the other members are pissing me off).
  8. Hey Wolf! Sounds like you're still going strong! Glad to hear you're safe with the flooding and storms. Sent from underwater.
  9. Um. . . so, I have no idea how that accidentally posted and I can't edit it. . . .So, I'll just start from where I left off: Saturday: Quest 3. Ran a 5k with my wife. Virtual 5 for a charity. I'm really disappointed in the time (over 40 minutes), but I was running with my wife who was going super-slow and we were running it together. Mindfulness. Worked on not letting my anxiety get the better of me about the time it took to complete the 5k; just focused on shifting my attitude to enjoyment and gratitude. Sunday: Quest 1. Recovery day. BUT I did some crazy mega-yard work. Maybe I'll post an awesome picture. . . Quest 2. Sugar - I have no idea, not good, I had a pancakes for breakfast. I didn't feel terrible and ate well the rest of the day, but yeah. It's not like I went sugar-crazy but wasn't my best. Quest 3. Recovery day! But overall weekly mileage was . . .. . . .<drum roll> . . . . . . .5.5 miles! Mindfulness. Worked on giving love and gratitude. The wife was having a really hard day and I wasn't the best at being there for her in the morning (she had also told me to leave her alone, so not entirely my fault), but worked hard to overcome my own defensiveness and just be there for her. Monday - TODAY! Quest 1. Couldn't work out this morning because I was flying solo this morning. Quest 2. Working on sugar. I ate a Picky Bar and didn't realize how much sugar they had, but they were satiating and mostly natural sugar, so I'm ok with that. Quest 3. Not a run day, but I need to do something. . . . maybe after work and t-ball. Mindfulness. Meditated this morning. **** Ok, Aquamom is feeling good!
  10. Oh my goodness do I have some catching up to do!! Thursday: Quest 1. Bootcamp workout! Strength workout! Yay! Quest 2. Sugar intake was 45 g, but considering that includes a small slice of Ultimate Chocolate Cake, I'm counting it as a win! Quest 3. Not a run day. Mindfulness. Took a quiet walk around the office building without my phone and just enjoyed the beautiful day! Friday: Quest 1. Well, it was a scheduled cardio day, but I was planning for my 5k on Saturday, so I didn't do anything. I didn't want to be too sore. Quest 2. 19 grams of sugar TOTAL!! Wooohoooo!! Quest 3. See comment to Quest 1. Mindfulness. I meditated in the morning instead of working out. Saturday: Quest 1. Ran a virtual 5k. Quest 2. Sugar intake was 14 grams! Quest 3.
  11. And for Tully I will swim 250 yards by Sunday evening!
  12. Stark! Outdoor run along the North Woods on campus on Saturday! Hooray!
  13. Stark! Good think I was already planning an outdoor run for yesterday!
  14. Heu Friends, Today was super hectic with back to back meetings at the office. But I wanted to check-in with a quick update. Tuesday: Quest 1: Cardio day! I ran. Quest 2: total sugar intake was 29 g, but not much was added sugar. There was 9 g of sugar in my yogurt, but other than nothing added. Quest 3: Yeah I ran, don't have the exact mileage but it was much faster than previous runs and felt very good. Mindfulness: kept focusing on the mantra "be here now" and choosing how to react. It's helping. Wednesday (today): Quest 1: Rest day. Quest 2: Complete fail. I had 2 chcolate chip cookies after dinner, but I ate them super slowly and savored them. It was nice. (SPOILER ALERT: Tomorrow will not count as it is my wife's birthday and I would be a terrible wife if I didn't eat her cake.) Quest 3: Rest day. Mindfulness: Meditated this morning. Not sure for how long. But did it before I got out of bed and it was a nice way to start the day. Also received some mindfulness goals from my therapist. Ok, I hope to catch up with and respond to everyone tomorrow! Sent from underwater.
  15. Yes, I'm hoping to finish wrapping up now, but a certain 3 year old is extraordinarily tough at bedtime. . . The mindfulness certainly helps with the kids! There's a great Daniel Tiger episode (a spin-off of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood) that talks about cooling down when you get upset. It's a catchy little tune: "When you feel so mad, that you wanna roar, just take a breath and count to Four (Deep Breath). . . . .one, two, three, four" Thanks! I'm feeling good ! ***** Ok, so where did I leave off. . . Friday: Quest 1: Strong Inside Out - 2nd strength workout of the week done. The AMRAP workout from before and I managed to get in a whole extra set within the 15 minutes! Quest 2: Sugar. Poor job of tracking in myfitnesspal, but I didn't eat any foods with added sugar, except for the Gu packet in the morning, so that's good. Quest 3: Not a running day. Mindfulness: Meditated for 5 minutes. Saturday: Quest 1: Strong Inside Out workout schedule - cardio day! And I ran! Quest 2: Sugar. Another poor job of tracking in myfitness pal (again). No sweets or sugary drinks. We did go out to eat and the salad dressing was rather sweet, so there may have been some sugar in that as well as the teriyaki sauce. Quest 3: Ran 3.11 miles (well, 4 min run/1 min walk). Total weekly mileage: 5.95. I'm getting there. Mindfulness: Practiced all day with kiddos! Sunday: Quest 1: Rest day! Quest 2: Sugar. I really need to be better about tracking on the weekend! Did a good job though - instead of picking the pancakes or waffles with syrup that I really wanted when we went out for breakfast, I got bacon and eggs. No added sugar in my snack which was trail mix (homemade paleo from Nom Nom Paleo) and dinner was pork chops with potatoes. So yeah, not bad. Mindfulness: Another day of practice all day with the kiddos! Monday: Quest 1: New strength workout! I completed it, even though it was tough. A pyramid workout with 4 sets (4, 8, 12, 6 reps) of weighted lunges, split-grip push-ups, reverse flys, burpees. Quest 2: Ugh - double what my goal is - the chocolate milk while driving the kids to t-ball didn't help. I asked my wife to pick me up a protein shake from the wawa and she was trying to be sweet by bringing me chocolate milk, but yeah, blew my sugar goal out of the water. Quest 3: Not a run day. Mindfulness: Today was a Monday to fight all other Mondays. It was just one thing after another today and while there were plenty of opportunities for me to get really upset and lose my cool, I remained level-headed, albeit sufficiently frustrated. I'm glad today is over. Tomorrow will be better all-around. Although this evening was quite fun. After we got home from t-ball, the boys and I played superheroes in the yard which is always fun.
  16. Ok, been a little crazy this weekend because my wife has been on duty. (Yay boarding school spouses ). Thursday: Finished strong - kept sugar below 25 grams! Well, not able to finish this post because . . . kids. . ..
  17. 2nd HIIT workout done yesterday for Targaryen!
  18. Yes! And they finished really well! I was able to keep my sugar total to 18 grams and finally felt like I was getting enough protein - the 40g shake in the morning helped. I listened/watched a webinar recently about Mindfulness for Lawyers (yes, I'm an attorney, and I'm ducking now) and much of it was about using mindfulness in small moments like that. Those pictures totally pump me up! I really do enjoy what Geoff Johns did with the launch of the New 52 for Aquaman. I'm a little worried about this "Rebirth" thing DC is doing. I guess we'll see . . . *** Day 3 Wrap: Well, everything went really well! I hit all my goals as you can see from the later afternoon tally yesterday. Mid-Day 4: Today is a rest day. So that's good. I guess. My anxiety is up today and I'm wondering if its because I didn't workout. I'm at the office until 8 pm - blah. Sugar consumption is meh. I had a grapefruit this morning which skyrocketed my sugar, but since I'm really focusing on the added sugar, I'm not super-concerned. Although, now that I'm typing this I'm wondering if it was that sugar in the morning that has caused ripples of anxiety this afternoon. (Or it could be some stuff that happened at work, people not doing their job correctly. . .). Mindfulness is tied directly to those incidents this morning. It involved two people who have been employed at the Firm for almost 10 years, an assistant manager and another partner, both screwed up royally. It's just frustrating when smart people who have been around for a while get lazy and then it comes back to bit the entire Firm in the ass. BUT Aquamom was able to keep her cool and did not once take out the frustration by raising her voice or pounding her desk. I spoke about it calmly to the Firm president so that's a win! Ugh. . . now back to the grind. . . .
  19. Hello!! Glad to have you! *** Day 2 Final Tally: Quest 1: Covered above. Quest 2: Ugh - didn't so great - ended up with 43 grams because the Wife brought home a piece of the best chocolate cake. . . . Total for the day was 43 grams of sugar. Quest 3: Covered above. Side Quest: Covered above. Day 3 later-in-the-day tally: Quest 1: Yes! Workout schedule was for cardio today, so I ran this morning! And man was ass cold out when I was going to the gym. Quest 2: Only 8 grams of sugar today. Quest 3: Ran this morning. Total of 2.84 miles. Felt good! First run in a while that felt so awesome! I felt strong. It was awesome. Side Quest: I have practiced mindfulness throughout the day by focusing on making good choices. What does that mean? Well, I can choose how I react. For example, we are hiring a new paralegal/legal assistant and I've dived in to drive that bus. Well, the printer was not cooperating this morning and I had a lot of trouble with getting resumes to print. Instead of getting supremely frustrated and letting it ruin my day and fixating on it, I just took some deep breaths and figured I could print them later. (Which is exactly what I did. I guess the printers were having a bad morning.)
  20. Thanks for the spreadsheet - I was able to edit just fine.
