  1. Teros - Thanks for dropping in! I was reading about your home gym.. I forget where.. maybe in the chat room? It's really ingenious how you thought to put ball bearings/weights in with the cement to make your weights heavier I'm spoiled rotten, but I don't take advantage of it. At home, I've got a BOSU ball, an exercise ball, a speed jump rope, 2x 5lb hand weights, workout DVD's, and access to Chrome Cast so that I can stream workout videos from YouTube. I just haven't been motivated!! Since joining Nerd Fitness, though, I've started transitioning to Paleo, started getting consistent with my physical therapy, and started connecting with like-minded individuals. I really feel like having a support system in place is so helpful, and I'm so glad to have found it here. P.S. don't be sad that your g/f isn't more nerdy. I'm high maintenance
  2. we should all just stop, drop, and hold. I challenge Sparks and Rebel to a 30 second plank!!
  3. double-post FTW! >_> The bridesmaids were stealing the controllers from the groomsmen They were playing Little Big Planet lol
  4. AH! Thanks Arya! I loved those shoes.... They were hell to actually wear, though I loved those parts of our wedding... I just can't help but to share more! ^ The Hair ^ The Bridal Party (4 of 10) ^ Me, jumping, in my dress, to show off my shoes ^ Husband, during the garter toss to Kefka's Theme
  5. just wanted to say that you are full of awesome and win. Is your dragon slain?
  6. great list I see "completed" in some places, and strike-throughs in others.... which is which?
  7. Ah! Thanks AlienJenn - your story is fantastic, thanks for sharing it. Now I get to follow your links and check out your battle log Until the challenge starts, I'm updating my own log here: http://rebellion.nerdfitness.com/index.php?/topic/48745-aminarras-quest-log/
  8. filed under Pineapple *bursts out laughing* That's totally me... Glad to see an update! That strength training is pretty impressive. I still get someone else to lift the cat litter pails haha... that'll be my sign of achievement--"can fill litter boxes without complaint or assistance."
  9. Heya, keep up the progress. If you can get into a routine, or involve your mates, it'll help.
  10. Hi hi! I found your thread because alienjenn commented on mine, I was looking for her thread, and found yours instead. Welcome to nerd fitness!! I rad through all of your progress so far. You're cruising right along! Keep up the good work For me, traveling and road trips are the worst. I tend to get off track and stay off track. Before my most recent vacation in May, I was chocolate free and rarely visited the vending machines for junk food. Over vacation, though, we ate out a lot, we drank soda, we had desserts... Now it's 3 weeks later and I'm eating m&ms, cheetohs, and drinking Dr pepper. I'm inspired by your dedication to getting back on track, so staying today: no more chocolate, no more soda for me. Oh! And when it comes to language, I HIGHLY suggest that you see if a Pimsleur Course is available. my husband and I are using it to learn German during our commutes. Pimsleur is different than anything else I've tried because it launches directly into useful language, instead of memorizing nouns and verbs. Some of the first lessons included introducing yourself, saying where you're from, ordering at a restaurant, asking for directions, etc. Now, I can ask/tell about family, travel, shopping, etc. Posted from my phone, please forgive any typos
  11. Mini Quests: 1. Pack a paleo lunch and eat it 5/7 days [X][X][X][_][_][_][_] 2. Complete physical therapy regimen 5/7 days [_][X][_][X][_][_][_] 3. Go for a walk >15 minutes 5/7 days [X][X][_][X][_][_][_] Fail to plan//plan to fail. I didn't do enough prep work this weekend to be ready for work this week and so I did *not* have a paleo breakfast or lunch prepared. I did, however, make "good" decisions while I was out. At Starbucks, they have protein bistro boxes that have an egg, some cheese, grapes, apples, peanut butter, and multigrain muesli bread. Not too shabby! Lunch was a salad from Wendy's that had strawberries, chicken, bacon, feta, and spinach. Dinner tonight was chicken kabobs with purple onion, mixed veggies, and a pineapple/strawberry mix. I'm updating the OP with my beginning weight and measurements for posterity.
  12. That's really interesting... Our goal right now (we're in transition) is to do 80% paleo... It's so hard!! What was your favorite or go-to breakfast? Eggs are probably out, so what's the next best thing?
  13. Challenge 1 Goal: Lose 6 pounds Mini Quests: 1. Pack a paleo lunch and eat it 5/7 days (in progress, 1/7 accomplished) [X][X][X][_][_][_][_] 2. Complete physical therapy regimen 5/7 days [_][X][_][_][_][_][_] 3. Go for a walk >15 minutes 5/7 days [X][X][_][_][_][_][_] Today was my husband's birthday, so, naturally, we had pumpkin pie for breakfast. And cookie dough ice cream. *stares at waist* Ahem. For lunch we had broccoli salad with raisins, sunflower seeds, and cheese. The sauce could definitely be refined... It was 1 cup miracle whip, half cup sugar, and two table spoons apple cider vinegar. Dinner was short ribs and steamed veggies. We did not go for a walk, and I did not do my physical therapy. I spent entirely too much time at the computer, but I had fun hanging out with guild mates in wild star. Posted with my phone, please forgive any typos.
  14. That's pretty awesome It's really inspiring. Has your wife had similar results?
  15. Challenge 1 Goal: Lose 6 pounds Mini Quests: 1. Pack a paleo lunch and eat it 5/7 days (in progress, 1/7 accomplished) [X][X][_][_][_][_][_] 2. Complete physical therapy regimen 5/7 days [_][X][_][_][_][_][_] 3. Go for a walk >15 minutes 5/7 days [X][X][_][_][_][_][_] I had a great day so far It's Wild Star Release day so I've been gaming pretty much all day (since 1:30am >_> ) but I made sure to take breaks regularly for sleep, cooking, physical therapy, and a walk. Breakfast was eggs with bacon and hashbrowns. Lunch was sleep. Dinner was grilled burgers and sugar snap peas. Snacks throughout the day have been grapes and carrots. It's my husband's birthday tomorrow, and we're still celebrating with food, so I have had a s'mores bar and we bought a pumpkin pie for tomorrow.
  16. asdf! I have written my reply like 4x and lost it every time Here's a summary: 1) Adventurers might still be a thing, but I've spent a lot of years strength training. I'm keeping my options open 2) Community has been awesome so far! I've been jumping into the chats daily since I signed up and people are very inspiring. 3) I started a battle log and I'm going to be updating it with accomplishments once my phone is charged up (there's pics I wanted to post) 4) I saw a car with a bumper sticker on it that said "Bella is a darkfriend" - it had the Wheel of Time logo on it and I could hardly contain my excitement

  18. D'oh! Any suggestions on where to house the 'quest log' - this is going to be my long-term tracker that will have the challenges added in.. EDIT: found it.
  19. Thanks for the welcome - I got my quest log set up HERE
  20. Hi all! I'm new here and trying to just get things figured out. Chris-Tien Jinn visited my intro post and sent me in this direction to get started. I think that I'd fit in well with the rangers because I'm looking for adaptive functional strength and I'm working on the transition to Paleo. I've got a 'quest log' intro drawn up, but I'm just not sure where to publish it. It includes a Main Quest with contributing goals and a side quest related to finances. I've also defined my motivation. For now (so I don't lose it) I'm saving it to my signature. [EDIT] - found it. But I think I'll keep it in my signature for now to keep it visible
  21. Pix or it didn't happen! Okay, so "mario themed" wasn't completely accurate... Jeff (my guy) doesn't like to broadcast his nerdgeekery because his family gives him grief, so we just peppered our nerdiness into the celebrations. I had a 1-up mushroom during our engagement shoot, Mario shoes during the wedding ceremony, and I had the DJ play the Mario Fanfare when I reached the end of the aisle (he didn't know about that sound byte and his face was unforgettable ) We had a reading from Firefly during the ceremony, and we played Kefka's theme during the garter toss. The 2nd reception that we held in Canada was much more Mario themed.
  22. I'm a both-feet kind of person... lol Thanks for posting the link to the level 1 forum--that's definitely where I'll be kicking off the challenge. I'll have to update my signature once I get back to my desk at work and see what I wrote down for goals--they were specific and measurable for sure 7 pounds in 2 years is no joke. It's amazing when people can drop it fast, but I've been there where it can take a full year to lose just 5 pounds--but that year is spent growing in other areas and building solid habits for the future. Personal crisis, if we're being honest, contributed more to my weight gain than my back injury ever did. I went into a tail spin and tried to stuff my feelings with food... that's when I shot up from 220 to 240. After seeking counseling, that helped stop the skyrocket. The back injury is just a complicating factor in getting back down towards my goal. The reason I am so ready to jump in with both feet is because I used to be an athlete. I used to be able to do anything I wanted to try. My mind remembers what that feels like, but now my body won't cooperate. I was kicked out of the group fitness classes at my local gym because I pushed myself so hard that I nearly re-injured myself. They knew I was supposed to be doing physical therapy instead of working out, and they could obviously see that I was in no shape to do boot camp--even with modifications. It's frustrating. I want to get back to where I was. That's why I think the challenges will be fun, and starting at square 1 will be fun.... so that I can level up as required and rebuild those skills. So--as long as I know that I'm still a level 1 newb, is it okay to keep the ranger sigil?
  23. The clement of cleanliness! In other news.. I love it when a guy holds the door open for me if he gets there first--but I equally love it when I can open it myself and he reaches over to hold it from closing again. It's the little gestures, I suppose
  24. Just wanted to let you know, my mom is in her 40's and decided to (finally?) start taking care of herself. She quit smoking and started working out and she hasn't looked back. Yeah, most days she's limping around because her muscles hurt, but those are also the days where she's grinning ear-to-ear because she DID it. She's genuinely getting happier and I don't have to explain any more "she never used to be like this, she used to be happy". You can get there too. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other
