  1. Way to go!! I hope you really enjoy the Academy. I've not been able to afford it, but it seems to be a really great thing. All the best to you in it, & enjoy your Fitbit. I have some friends who've really benefitted from theirs.
  2. Yay for another interview!! All the best!! About struggling - we all do it. We all have our burdens to bear & our demons to fight. If we stand together, we're that much stronger, even if we're fighting different ones. One of the great things about this is that we each understand that & that we're each willing to support each other.
  3. I hope you recover soon, Heather Allyse. Being sick's not fun, whether it keeps you from work or not. Now that you mention it, yeah, the running icon is a bit like a zombie. haha I like the whole archer thing with the Scout one.
  4. You're very welcome, lyla. As to which is the hardest - getting out of bed without hitting snooze or working out - well, to me, it's almost always hardest to get out of bed when I have somewhere to go. Then working out can be hard to do, too, but once I'm doing it, I'm committed, & it's just something I'm doing. But, yeah, it can be hard to know for sure, eh?
  5. Yes, it can be done on a holiday - or at any time. Way to go on all your As!!
  6. haha I have to laugh! I've been here on NF for months - last May - but I only started getting involved on 23 February. Yup! The first day of the current challenge. I found out about it that day & joined up right away. It's been good! I'm slowly figuring things out. Along with this, I was wondering if there was a general chat thread for Recruits, & here it was all along! I decided to check out The Juice Bar a few minutes ago, & I did a quick scan of the posts here. haha How's everyone doing in their challenges? I'm glad to be here, & mine's going all right, although I've not been able to walk as much as I've wanted to since my foot's been giving me some problems. I thought it might've been shoe related, & so I started using really good walking shoes that I have. But it's not that. I hope it's not plantar faciitis or something like that. Anyway, I'm going to start cycling again tomorrow, & that'll keep me moving. I might adjust my walking goal in this challenge to cycling instead. I don't foot problems when I ride my bike. I'll just have to take shorter walks, I guess. As long as I work towards my main goal, it's all good to me.
  7. Thanks! I needed this, & I'm sure others did, too.
  8. Therapeutic selfies - I love that! I've been doing that all along, although I didn't think of it that way. I love to be out in nature, & it's where I truly feel most at home. I don't always take pictures of myself in nature, but when I do, it's because it's been a super special time for me, whether just a moment or a long time. I can look back & remember that bit, & am reminded that I was part of that specialness. As you said, it's a way to commemorate things & is a small celebration of one's self. People don't tend to do that often enough, but we should. Each person is worth celebrating. Being nice to yourself, isn't usually easy, is it? But it pays off in so many ways. I've just started following this thread & have really enjoyed reading your posts. I look forward to what you write next!
  9. Hi! I just found out about this. I chose to give up Coca~Cola since that's the hardest drink for me to give up. I've tried over & over, but it's always something I go back to. So I'm for it, to give it up permanently! I chose the Zen Mode, although right now I'm at the Intermediate level since I've been without it for 18 days. Yay!! That's HUGE for me! I see that the spreadsheet for this challenge is under construction - any idea as to when it'll be ready to go again? Or are there any plans for that? Just curious.
  10. Heatherallyse, you said that so beautifully. Sovellis, even if none of us ever meet in person, we're all here to support each other & to stand by each other. I'm here for you, too. I also know how awful & crippling anxiety can be.
  11. I am really feeling my walk from this afternoon, but it's a great kind of tired. If I don't sleep well tonight, I'll be greatly surprised! :D

      Mr_Willes

I think that's the best feeling you can have when going to sleep! Felt like that last evening, after heavy Stronglifts and Kickfun training!

  12. If you do, I'll definitely cheer you on. If you don't, or at least don't check in, I'll just ask you how you're doing.
  13. 6.19 km today. It was lovely for walking, & it felt wonderful to be outside. Off to enter it onto our database now.
  14. I just found out about Mini Challenges today! Interestingly enough, I did do all the Mini Challenges from Weeks 1 & 2 without realising that they were a part of things. haha Week 3: The Library So your challenge for this week has 3 parts: 1. Pinpoint the quest in your journey that is giving you the most uphill (or one that you're struggling to achieve) So, the quest I'm struggling to achieve the most is walking 6 days a week, 30 minutes at a time. It's not that I set myself too hard a goal, but, for some reason, I keep finding things to do here at home that're keeping me from going out to walk most days of the week. Then, last week & yesterday, my foot was bothering me. So that kept me from going out to walk. So I got it into my head that I should just give that up. NOT a good mindset to get into. 2. Search through NF (forums or articles) to find one that is able to offer some assistance A Hobbit's Guide To Walking is one I find that's quite helpful. I'm not planning on doing the walk to Mordor right now - I'm already doing another challenge - Starts 23 Feb 2015: PVP - Walkers! - but there's info in this article that reminds me about the importance of moving and, especially, of walking. Another article that's good for this isn't from this site, but it was linked to in A Hobbit's Guide To Walking, & it's The Human Body Is Built For Distance from The New York Times. 3. Apply it to your challenge (no collecting underpants here) After being reminded of the importance of moving & of reading how, as a human, I'm built for going long distances, I'm going to get up off of my duff & walk at least 6 days a week. I do love walking and wandering around, and being reminded of how excellent an exercise walking is and how it's so natural for me as a human, that it makes sense to just get up and do it.
  15. Me, too, Mandrill. I did all of the challenges for weeks 1 & 2 without even realising they were part of things. I'll be posting my update for this week's challenge on my own thread here.
  16. Welcome here!! It sounds like you have some good goals & motivation behind it all.
  17. Way to go!! You're doing so well, Xik. Yes, 13C is like British summers, from what I've heard. Here, we can get up to 30 C, which is way too hot for me. Sometimes it gets even hotter. My ideal is about 20 C, or 70 F. I did go for a long walk. I don't yet know how long it was, but it took me about 1 1/2 hours. I didn't walk too fast most of the time, but I walk normally than average at my slower speeds. It'll be cool to see how far it was! I realised that I have another bike pump, a portable one that I always take with me when I go on a bike ride. So I'll be using that tomorrow when I pump up my front tire.
  18. Cool! I'm going to do them as well. It'll be good for me. I've had a blast catching up here today. Way to go on your progress!!
  19. Way to go on your progress, Alice! It's so exciting!! Keep up the great work!
