  1. Since I seem to be having trouble in my weight lifting class, I am going to try to fix that. I am going to break out my dumbells I have at home and do different things with them for 15 minutes a night, even if it means taking them down to 1lb each . Squats is where I start feeling nauseous. So, will start there. By the end of this challenge, maybe I can make it through a full class again!!
  2. Athena, thank you! I drink plenty of water, but sometimes, while I am working out , I slack off. Holding breath? I try to make sure I'm breathing because of the nauseous thing - I thought maybe that was it too....I dunno. Lets see - lunch was a huge salad with salmon and ginger dressing Calories was 395. Celery with almond butter was the snack - Calories 215. I had figured out a while back I can't eat anything that is going to sour my stomach before I work out. If I do, forget it - major acid reflux. I used to love yogurt, now I can't even walk by it without gagging. Maybe the oil in the fish didn't agree with me? Again, dunno. I skipped the Saturday class because I was still overly sore from the Thursday one, but am going to the one on Tuesday. I really want to get back to this class on a regular basis because It truely did help me in the past.
  3. Not that I am aware of. I hate getting nauseus, hence why I can't work with a personal trainer. They make me nauseus working me too hard and tell me to work through it - I can't or I will pass out. I've never had this issue before.
  4. Just a small update 1. Workout 3 times a week - this means at the gym...with heavy stuff. Went to the gym Mon thru Thurs. Monday, elliptical, Tuesday, treadmill, Wednesday, laps and Aqua Zumba, and last night weight lifting. Today is a rest day, because I need one and, we had to go to a funeral today. 2. Walk/run 5 days a week - actually, I should say woggle...I will never be a runner 3 days done for this week, 2 to go! 3. 1 Primal/Paleo meal a day. Been eating really well! That's been the really easy part actually. 4. Follow this challenge through to the end, Still here and going!
  5. I did a search and didn't see this question asked....found a few about nauseousness from working out, but I just wonder if anyone else has this issue. I am doing my first challenge here. Been lurking for about 2 years and finally decided to get serious. Last year, between March and July, I lost 36lbs and was getting back in shape - then tore my hamstring and lead to a spiral of self-pity and not doing anything. Fast forward to today - I started back at the gym on Monday= did cardio Mon, Tues and Wed, then Thurs did a weight lifting class. Last year, I had no issue with this class. This class uses barbells, and there are a lot of weight changes, and use of just plates. Some pushups, some ab work at cool down. Last night, not even 1/2 way into the 2nd set of things (15 mins into a 50 min class) I was nauseous and felt like I was going to pass out. This was while working on leg work (barbell with um....crud, I don't know what size plates I had, but 1/2 the size than last year...I wanna say 20lbs total?) So, I sat on my step (we use the steps used in a step class to lay on to do chest/tricep work) and still lifted the weights (went from barbell to just plates), because standing and doing it would make me nauseous again. I wanted to quit so badly, but I had 2 people from work come with me and didn't want to appear the wuss. I ate lunch around 1:30. Had a snack at 3:30. Walked on the treadmill for 15 mins before class (slow pace for me, about 2.9mph). Class started at 5:30 I don't get nauseous when I am doing anything else - like treadmill or elliptical. I am fine doing that. It only happens when I am lifting. Any input would be greatly appreciated
  6. Can I join in? I've been doing this on my own since Monday - I've actually done the whole 458 a few years ago with a group of friends at work. I'm at 7 miles right now. Tonight is weight lifting class, so no walk, unless I get to the gym early and do the treadmill a bit. Tomorrow is my rest day, but Saturday I usually do 3 miles and Sunday is usually 5 miles. Saucony - I love my Sauconys. I have bought the same ones 3 times in a row - I have to get new shoes every 4-5 months. I always buy 2 pair at a time so that I can rotate. I also like the Addidas Climacools. They are better for walking on trails, like hiking and such and also for running - the Sauconys I get are really good for walking and doing classes at the gym.
  7. Did not do weight lifting class tonight but, I did do 30 minutes of a round of 8 weight machines in the women's workout room. Ran into 3 different people from work a the gym - well, 2, and one that was let go a few weeks ago. So, that put me late gettin into the class and there was no room. I was asked by the instructor to come Saturday to her morning class, because she wants some of her regulars there when they do the new launch. They change the routine each month. So, will still get in Thursday and Saturday in her class. Eating has been great! Studying to see if I can take the exam in July.....doing a little research to make sure I have everything I need. Been a good week so far
  8. Is there still room in this challenge for more people?? I LOVE taking pictures.....even of inanimate objects, lol.
  9. Oh and you posted the question in my thread, but figure you would see it here first.... Sweet Potato Dollars link http://nerdfitnessrebellion.com/index.php?/topic/25227-new-snack-sweet-potato-dollars/
  10. Thank you so much, Melry!! We have a tripod - both a tall one and a 4" one. I'll have to try that. My daughter is going to be doing a lot of fishing, there is going to be a hang gliding competition we are going to watch and we are also going to go on a 3 hour wild horse tour on one of the islands. Yes, it does have auto focus. I can change settings, and I can turn the auto focus off if I want to. I'll have to play with that more to figure it out. What would be good for water pictures? Like these: great job on your weekly update too!
  11. Beautiful outside today!! Went and bought 2 new pairs of shoes - on running and one dress for the audit I am doing tomorrow....my hubby is constantly yelling about shoes. I go through running shoes about every 4 months, but never throw them out....but yet, when I have to dress up, I have no dress shoes . Made bacon wrapped dates, sweet potato dollars and roasted brussels sprouts today for meals through the week to go with my crock pot chicken I made. Today was the first day I have eaten fully paleo/primal and I feel really good. Finally rid of the caffeine withdrawal headache. Walk this evening, gym tomorrow and weigh lifting class on Tuesday!
  12. Fixed this today for my lunches next week. My house smelled amazing when I got home from work! And it tastes really good! A nice change from the ordinary for my lunches.
  13. Nice!! I do a lot of nature, old building, flower picture taking for now. Got the most awesome shot of a giraffe at the zoo a few weeks ago. And some great macro flower shots this past weekend at 2 local parks. I got a Fujifilm Finepix s4250. Nothing fancy, but much better than what I had. I am actually doing a lot of reading right now about how to do my own settings and such. We are getting ready to head to the Outer Banks of NC for our annual beach vacation and I really hope to get some much better shots than I did last year. Any advice would be great! Picture of the giraffe I took. She's one of 3 young females that they have at the NC Zoo.
  14. Not so great day today - eating has been good, but fighting a caffeine withdrawal headache. Breakfast - 2 poached eggs Snack - grapes/banana/strawberries Lunch - chicken breast, with broccoli and like 10 little pieces of gnocchi Dinner is going to be filet mignon, sweet potato and a kale/spinach/tomato/avocado salad. Walk this afternoon - getting ready to leave work now. Have to get a pair of shoes to wear Monday for an audit I have to go do at one of our vendors. May do the shoe shopping tomorrow though, once this headache backs off. I have chicken/salsa in the crock pot to shred for lunches next week. Going to roast some brussel sprouts, too.
  15. Just checking in! Been doing well this week. Made it to the gym 3 times and have walked 2 evenings. My eating has been great. Started a weight loss challenge with 4 co-workers today. We all went and weighed in together. We're going to meet every Friday for lunch and talk about how we are doing, what we need to work on, etc. I had 2 amazing days at work in a row. I was asked yesterday by the president of the company to take ownership of a project that 4 other people were supposed to be working on that just let it slide. Me. Who's conversation with the president has mostly consisted of "Are you still going to the gym?". I've run into him and his wife there a few Sundays and now he makes it a point to ask about how my workouts are going. He has been battling prostate cancer for 4 years and still goes regularly. IF he can go, so can I !!
  16. Great goals, and I love the musical references, lol. I would love to try yoga...some day. No way could I do it right now. I have done a class at the gym that is like a combo of yoga and pilates and it's not too terribly bad. Fritatta sounds really good!
  17. Oh, I LOVE kale...and avocado! I will have to try this one.
  18. Great set of goals and good job so far! I remember homeschooling my 2 - I had a whiteboard we used, instead of chalk. I homeschooled the 2 of them between 4th and 6th grade for the oldest and 2nd and 5th grade for the youngest. Then, life took a turn and I had to put them back in public school because I had to be available for a day shift job. Now they're both in college....gads I feel old Water suggestion - I use frozen fruit as ice cubes. We have yucko tap water where I live and it helps a bit.
  19. Great goals and I can highly relate to number 4. I always go to bed thinking "I'll get up early enough to get a walk in before work." Now, I always feel so much better at work when I do SOMETHING in the morning, so why can't I manage to get my rear up? You're doing great - keep it up!
  20. It's a beautiful, wondermous day!

  21. Awesome goals, Melry! Ohhh, you do photography? What type of photography do you do?? My dear husband got me a new camera for Christmas that I have been going out on weekends and playing around with. I'm trying to get better at my picture taking. This past weekend, it was plants/flowers, since everything is blooming. The weekend before was animals at the zoo. And, being in regulatory affairs, I also sit in front of a pc all day....*sigh*.
  22. Thanks! HA! Nice to see that someone else woggles, lol.
  23. I've been lurking around Nerd Fitness for a little over a year. I started reading it because I am an avid Everquest II player and I found it intriguing. Last year, between March and June, I lost 42 pounds, going to the gym 4 nights a week with a dear co-worker and friend. I also walked 1.2 miles every evening with another friend. The beginning of June, I decided to be brave and attempt to water ski again....I have not skied since my youngest was 1....she is now 20. What did I do when we went to the lake? Got up, and immediately went down in a split - and tore my left hamstring. This annoyed me to no end....now could I - after MONTHS of working out and weight lifting and doing so well - ruin it by hurting myself?? Ugh. Did I take under consideration that even the most in shape athletes tear stuff or get injured? Nope. I had an almost year-long pity party. So, since then, I have been trying to get back on track....to no avail. It's time for that to change. Now. I think this challenge is just the thing to get me back there....to where I was and incredibly happy. I was always looking forward to working out every day. I need to get my brain back in the game. I have fought stomach ulcers over the past 4 months also, and I think the change in eating is something I really, really need. Cutting out sugar, dairy and other things are all things that I really need. (Boy, I have used the word really a lot in this post!!) Sooooooooooooo, All that being said, my goals are as follows: Starting weight: 260 1. Workout 3 times a week - this means at the gym...with heavy stuff. 2. Walk/run 5 days a week - actually, I should say woggle...I will never be a runner 3. 1 Primal/Paleo meal a day. 4. Follow this challenge through to the end Level Up Challenge: I work in Regulatory Affairs in the food industry. I have always wanted to get my CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) certification. There is an exam coming up in July - by the end of this challenge, I want to feel confident enough to take that exam - and I think finishing something will help towards that goal. I KNOW the stuff.....I have 22 years of experience. It's just feeling comfortable with the test part.
  24. Should have one for college age too (18-24)....parenting doesn't stop when you kick them out, because THEY COME BACK! Case in point.....we just moved my daughter out of her dorm room and back to the house - no, she didn't quit school - she has severe personal space issues and couldn't get along w/ her room mate and got no help from the RA's at all. Luckily, we live close enough where she can commute/carepool with me (I work less than 5 miles from her university).
