  1. Hi, friends! Doing well. I had to miss one of my training runs this past week because of heavy rains, but I'm going to make it up at the gym today. It's not my preference to run on a treadmill, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right? I did get one strength training workout in last week (not as many as I wanted, but it's progress!) and I'll do it when I'm at the gym after my run today too. My per mile time is under 11 minutes now, so I'm making progress there, too! Not quite to a sub-30 time yet, but I'm getting close I did run the entire 5K without walk breaks, which is major progress for me too! I think one of the things that is hindering me is my sleep habits. I'm a night owl!! So I stay up too late at night! So I think one of my goals for my next challenge will be to get to bed at a decent hour. Thanks for checking in on me! Hope you guys are doing well too!
  2. Thanks, Arya! Didn't realize I had to subscribe to myself, haha! Excellent advice! And I appreciate you! Thank you again! *hugs*
  3. Hi! Just checkin' in on ya, too I haven't been very good about updating my thread either (today was my first update since we started the challenge), but it felt good to get it out there. Hope you're doing well and staying strong!
  4. Arya! You are doing fantastic!! I haven't been on in awhile, so I had to go through your WHOLE thread to see how it's going. You are kicking some serious a$$! And I'm so impressed by how often you are posting your updates, and how encouraging you are to others. What a wonderful spirit of energy and positivity (is that a word? Oh well, it is now) you have. Keep up the GREAT work!! I promise I will try to check in more often!
  5. I'm sorry I haven't been on to cheer and encourage, but I just went through your thread. May I say, I'm impressed! Way to power through when you're feeling down, and sticking to your plan (and being flexible with it when your activities require it). I resolve to be a better cheerleader from here on out Your enthusiasm and drive are super! Keep up the awesome work!
  6. Hey, friends! I'm so sorry I have been MIA with the posting. I thought things were supposed to slow down in the summer?? How is it possible that I've been even busier?!?! So, when I started this challenge, I was running an avg of about a 12-12.5 minute mile. I've stuck to my training program (It's the sub-30K training program from Jeff Galloway in the RunKeeper app) pretty well so far. Only a couple of times have I had to adjust my running days because of schedules or rain, but I haven't skipped any! Woo hoo! This morning, I was sorely tempted to skip for the first time. I couldn't run yesterday because it was raining all day, and our day was too full to go to the gym so I could run on the treadmill (which, I have to say, is not my preference). So I NEEDED to get up this morning to do my make-up run. But I did not eat well these past couple of days (couldn't resist McD french fries a couple of nights ago, and had Chicago-style BBQ Chicken pizza last night) and I stayed up waaaaaay too late last night researching our upcoming vacation. I REALLY wanted to stay in bed!! But, I thought to myself I had to accomplish 2 things today -- run and update my Nerd Fitness Quest post!! And it's not even 8am, and here I having completed doing both! Yay! I'm really glad that I got up to run. It felt a lot better than I thought it would (who knew? haha!), and I ran nearly 3 miles, with my best mile pace being an 11mm and my slowest being 11.5mm! Yay for progress!! According to my training, tomorrow is speed interval training (run rast 1/4 miles and walk 200 meters, 10 reps) and then a practice 5K on Friday. Wish me luck! I haven't run 3 days in a row in awhile. As for strength training, unfortunately, I have to give myself a C on that progress. I know the beginning body weight workout does not take long, but I haven't made it a priority to squeeze into my schedule. It has been sporadic at best. I am resolving to do better and make it a part of my schedule. And finally, for mini-quest 3, I think for the most part, I'm doing pretty well with tracking my nutrition. Like I mentioned above, I've had a couple of pretty major cheats in the past couple of days. I think that comes from over-scheduling myself and not planning well. Did I mention it's been a busy summer? So today is my reset on that, and I'll go back to eating the way I should. Thank you all for checking in on me!! I'm not getting notified when there are comments on my own thread... any ideas on how to fix that? I also resolve to update more often. Your encouragement and support is priceless, and it made me feel so good to see your comments even though I haven't been here in awhile. Happy Wednesday, everyone! I hope you're doing well!
  7. As a fellow *ahem* late-30er (although I can only say that for a few more months), I feel ya on your goals to increase stamina and strength. I also don't feel the need to be thin, and I like how you want to be "capable and agile." Excellent qualities! Best of luck to you, and I'm subbing to follow your progress.
  8. Woo hoo, Arya!! I really like your goal to eat less take-out. I can so identify with that! I may be using that for the next challenge :-) In the meantime, good luck with your goals!
  9. Kailer, I'm using Runkeeper. Are you using a running app like that? Runkeeper isn't bad, and a few of my friends use it so we can cheer each other on. But if there are other good apps, I'd be interested to know. Thanks, Arya! I'll sub yours also so we can be a big happy encouraging team! Wait... DoubleM doesn't stand for Double Marathon??? ;-) (And thanks!)
  10. Excellent goals!! I especially admire the pull-up one. That will be one of my goals... someday! I'm looking forward to seeing your progress. Go Newbies! :-)
  11. Thanks, Nightside! When I was running regularly, I was able to do about a 25-27minute 5K. So I hope to get back to that or better :-) Thank you, Blaidd! I appreciate the encouragement, and tagging me as Scout. I definitely want to get to know the guilds to see where I fit in. It seems like a lot of my goals fit somewhere in each one. Thanks for the intro, Hazard! I was afraid I was feeling to wimpy to be an Assassin, but any support to get there is much appreciated! I'll definitely stop by and check in. I especially appreciate the link to the exercises. I'm excited to get started!
  12. Hi, I'm FabCat, and I just joined the Rebellion (and the Academy). I just completed a "Live Lean" challenge at a local gym, and now that it's over and I've been really happy with the results I achieved, I'm looking for a way to continue to be motivated to "live lean." Main Quest: Run a sub-30 5K. Mini-quest 1: Purchased a training program specifically to get me to a sub-30 5K on RunKeeper. Stick to the program, and log completion (without skipping any workouts) by the end of this 6WC. This is part of a longer term goal of running a half marathon. Mini-quest 2: Complete Beginner Body Weight Workout 3X a week to keep that fat-burning cycle going! Mini-quest 3: Make sure to get an average of 110-20g of protein in my diet per day. I'm terrible at logging my food; I use My Fitness Pal, mostly. But this was my goal during the challenge that I was doing, so I have a good idea of how much I need to eat to get that 120g in. I will do my best to log it though! Motivation 1 (but not more important than 2): I'm turning 40 in August (EEKS - it snuck up on me!), and if I maintain the nutrition and fitness goals that I had during the challenge, then I will weigh less and be more fit when I turn 40 than I was at 30! Who needs a flux capacitor?!?! Motivation 2 (just as important as 1): My other motivation is my two girls (aged 6 and 3). I want them to grow up with a healthy view of their bodies, and that starts with me setting a healthy example and loving myself no matter what I look like.
