  1. I'm not dead!! I came down with a nasty stomach bug on Sunday, and am just now feeling fully recovered. I have a birthday party for my MIL to go to tonight, but I'm back at it tomorrow!!
  2. Ok, day 5! Yesterday I had a minor slip up in the supermarket at lunchtime. Our local store was having a sale on Chips Ahoy and Turkey Hill ice cream... so there was a lady at the door handing out cookies. I had a moment of weakness and couldn't resist... it was a soft chocolate chip. It was only like half a cookie, but still - there goes my perfection for this week. Oh well. A half of a cookie will not kill me. My right forearm is feeling a bit tight today, plus I have a birthday party to go to tonight, so I will be postponing my 3rd workout for this week until Sunday. I did set an alarm to try and go before work this morning, but 4:45am was just not happening. No big deal though, I'll make it up. I'm going fishing tomorrow with boyfriend and some coworkers... charter boat in the Delaware Bay. I SHALL CATCH ALL THE FISH. I'll be back for more updates either Sunday or Monday! Have a great weekend, everybody!
  3. Hi Erin! I'll usually bring leftovers from dinners, egg or tuna salad (with paleo mayo) and a side of veggies, or if i'm in a pinch, grab a rotisserie chicken and some veggies or a loaded salad from my local supermarket for a quick emergency lunch. Good luck with your challenges! I've been eating Paleo for about a year now and have never felt better. It's amazing how much difference your diet can make.
  4. Thanks, jaybugg! I don't know why but running is really the only thing that induces that kind of reaction for me lol. I'll be working on it, gotta keep going. Thanks for the words of encouragement!!
  5. Day 3 is in the books. And a humbling day at that. I'm 3/3 on squeaky clean Paleo! Woo hoo! Made it to CrossFit last night. Did well in the strength portion - set a PR of 80lbs on my back squat! Huzzah! I know that's still on the light side for a back squat number, but hey, I've only really been serious about this for two weeks... I will get there. A couple friends there managed 175# right across from me. So impressive. I'll get there!!! I fizzled out QUICKLY on the Metcon last night. Did the first 400m run and had a meeting in the bathroom with Pukey the Clown (at least I made it to the bathroom). Running is NOT my forte and I need to get better at it. After my "meeting", I got back out there and did my first round of Power Cleans and Front Squats. I started on the bar hop burpees, got through 7 or 8, before I got called into another "meeting". I had nothing left in the tank after that, so I put my bar away and stayed around to cheer on the others. I need to work on running. That's where that awful nausea (and subsequent clown visits) stemmed from. I have never once felt so sick doing anything else at CrossFit, and that includes copious amounts of burpees. A quick sprint gives me no issues, but anything over 100m seems to be an issue. I am adding two mini-quests for myself in these 6 weeks!!! 1. Manage 1 unassisted pullup at the end of 6 weeks. 2. Be able to run 400+meters without a cookie toss. I will run on my off days, and I'll talk with my coach about pullup progression to see what he suggests for a training regimen as I don't want to overload myself right away. Onward to day 4... today is a rest day. I will probably go to my local globogym and attempt to run tonight as it's crappy outside.
  6. Dragons! Huzzah! I am following your progress. Good luck!!
  7. Hi Lizzi! I just started (regularly) going to CrossFit recently myself. Good luck with all of your goals, you can do it! I will be cheering for you!!
  8. Hi, fellow CrossFitter! Good luck with your goals, I will be cheering for you!!!
  9. Hi Kitty! Looks like you're doing great on your challenge so far. Just wanted to say hi and good luck! I LOVE that you're walking the wall - such a cool idea. Great work so far, keep at it!
  10. So I didn't make it to CrossFit last night, but that's OK as it would have been an "extra" day, anyway. Heavy pockets of storms caused some flash flooding and the roads were a disaster (45 minute drive from work to my box on a normal day). Plus, I had to food shop. Day 2 was squeaky clean Paleo also! So far I am 2/2 days on the eating front. Tonight's WOD is: Strength: Back Squats (1 x 6) METCON: 400m run, 7 Power Cleans, 7 Front Squats, 14 Bar-hop Burpees, 7 Power Cleans, 7 Front Squats, 14 Bar-hop Burpees, 7 Power Cleans, 7 Front Squats, 400m run. I'm finally getting to the point where if I look at the day's WOD online, I'm not totally terrified. I will take that as a sign of progress. Have a great day, everyone!
  11. So day 1 is complete! And so far, so good I went to the Box last night where the WOD was: Strength portion: Power Snatch 1 x 2 @ 50lbs (did this several times) Note: This was my first time doing snatches (::chuckle: in a long time (since February), so I took it easy on the weight to make sure my form is correct. I could have gone (a lot) heavier without a doubt, but I'll do that next time now that I'm sure I know what correct form feels like. METCON: 5 rounds of: 250m row, 10 pull ups, 7 power snatches I only finished 4 rounds. I got wiped way more quickly than I would have liked... but I guess I can't expect miracles in just my 2nd week of going regularly. Pull ups are my arch enemy right now. I think for this week's skill work, I'll use some Open Gym time to work on those. I'd really like to be able to do at least a couple of unassisted pull ups by the end of the summer. Right now I'm still working with the bands (no idea what resistance level they are, we just know them as "red" and "orange"). 4 rounds in 18:20. As far as food goes, no slip-ups yesterday - 100% Paleo. Today's WOD looks like a lot of fun (did I just say that?), I might actually pull a first for me and go two days in a row (a first)!! TUE JUNE 10, 2014 TUESDAY, JUNE 10TH Strict HSPU Skill Work Shoulder Press (5) Metcon (AMRAP - Rounds and Reps) AMRAP in 10 10 Toes to Bars 15 Box Jumps 20 Wallballs As an add on to my original post, CrossFit is not the end-all, be-all of my workout plan for my future goals. Once I feel that I'm sufficiently in shape and strong, I'll be adding some parkour and rock climbing into my routine. My CrossFit box does include a lot of gymnastic type stuff, but if I feel I need to add that in as well, you'd best believe I'll be doing it. But this is all waayyyy down the road somewhere. Focusing on getting strong right now. Onward to (the rest of) day 2... have a great day, everyone!
  12. Thank you all for stopping by to say hello! (*^â–½^*)
  13. Hello! My name is Jamie, my friends call me JCro. My mission in life is to be a ninja. Growing up, I was never very active. In high school, I always happened to be sick during the days in gym where we had to do anything overly strenuous. I briefly played field hockey before I realized I had “exercise-induced asthma†(which for me, translated to “I don’t want to run.â€) After that trial and error, I committed myself to years of Final Fantasy games, school musicals, and color guard. While I was never an active person, I was surprisingly thin when I was younger. However, I hit 25 a few years ago, and that all seemed to change. I packed on pounds like nobody’s business. For a few years, I struggled with learning to eat right and exercise. I have participated in Weight Watchers as well as several other calorie-counting communities, and was a Zumba-holic. Thankfully, within the last year and a half, I discovered Paleo. I am finally down to a weight that I am happy with, and do not feel deprived. I joined a CrossFit box back in February, but did not get serious about going until this month (I can feed you any line as to why, but when it boils down to it, I just didn’t make it a priority). On to why I am here!! Main Quest: To compete on American Ninja Warrior before I turn 35. I realize that this very long term, as I am currently only 29. But the quests within this quest will keep me on target toward my version of “saving the worldâ€. Quest 1: Attend CrossFit 3-4 times per week, and give it my all when I go. Tell that “I give up†voice in my head to shut it. Quest 2: Sprints once a week, as well as extra mobility or skill work, outside of the Box. Quest 3: Clean up my diet to 90/10 Paleo. My Motivation: I am so motivated by the strong and amazing women I have met at CrossFit, and who I have seen compete and give it their all on American Ninja Warrior. I want to someday be that woman that someone looks up to in awe.
