  1. I didn't post at all for the month but I wanted to evaluate because I actually stuck to it! I completed all my goals fully! I never missed once and successfully ate one veggie everyday (frozen broccoli) and I walked for 5 minutes everyday. Lastly I cut my fast food consumption down to half! I did so well! Can't wait to do more!
  2. All your goals sound great! I really like the studying goal. Online classes can be so hard to stay disciplined on. So good luck!
  3. Thanks for all the luck! It's good to hear that it's possible to be successful even when those around you are not always supportive. It helps that I talk to family about my goals and how I'm doing on them. I talk on the phone with some relatives and even though they don't live near me they always help with cheers. It keeps me motivated because they won't see me for a while and then they will be shocked to see the transformation and it keeps me going.
  4. Thank you all for the support, my veggie that I've found to eat is broccoli. I've been doing great getting in my broccoli everyday. Also, I work on campus as a intramural official so I am officiating basketball twice a week now and my legs killed today but it is totally worth it! So my 5 minutes walking sometimes turns into running but hey I'm proud to be getting things done. Sunday meal preps have been really helpful as well but lately I've just been so busy I don't have time to eat out at fast food. I've been having to bring things with me on the go.
  5. Hey thanks for the advice! All has gone well so far actually, haven't really mentioned anything to my friends about it mostly because I'm still scared to but I've been doing well eating wise and I am down 8 pounds mostly just from making little changes to my diet. I decided to jump into the 4 week challenge this month and I think it will go well. I'm actually excited with the little changes I've been making. Thanks for the support!
  6. As any great journey/book starts, there was a prologue. Even though this is my first challenge (Chapter 1), I did a mini-challenge on my own so that I took small steps and it worked out really well. Last month (January) I made a 30 day challenge that I would not drink soda. I drank minimal soda already where it was mostly when I ate out (fast food) or if I was out with friends and I didn't really buy it but it was something that I wanted to be conscious of and nip that habit in the butt because I didn't need to add the sugar. I did really well and only drank soda once the whole month (out with friends). So now I feel ready to take on slightly bigger challenges and thus I start my first challenge. Anyway here are my goals, this is all in an effort to become healthier and get to a point where my body does not stop me from doing whatever I want to do. It makes me upset that there are so many things that I want to do that I can't because I physically would embarrass myself and it's because of how out of shape I am. It's winter right now but I want to make my changes so that once the snow is gone I can get my friends to climb the mountain right behind my house. There is this cool place called "The Living Room" where there are lots of rocks that we moved around so that they make couches and chairs and it overlooks the valley I live in. I hiked to it when I first moved for school in August and while I did make it up there I was very weak and needed lots and lots of breaks. So when I make the trip again I want to not take as many breaks and eventually none at all. Nutrition: 1. Eat one veggie with a meal once a day (this is most likely going to be the same veggie over and over) 2. Reduce my fast food consumption by 50% (this all in all leads to me only eat fast food once a day) Fitness: 3. Walk 5 minutes a day I actually started on February 1st and day one and day two worked out really well and I checked off everything on my list. On to Day 3 and Beyond!
  7. So looking at my past posts I tried this about 15 months ago and that didn't work out really well... BUT this is the ultimate restart for me and this is a different approach then before. In August I made a super out of my comfort zone decision to leave my wonderful city of Chicago and moved to Salt Lake City so I could try my undergrad studies again. It turned out to be a great decision and this has been the happiest I have been and I feel clear and focused. Anyway, my birthday came around and it kind of hit me that I need to turn my life around health-wise. I have always been overweight. I was a three sport athlete even when I was overweight. I never thought there was anything wrong because I could do everything that I wanted to do. I started to realize coming out of high school that I needed to become healthier to not end up like my mom and dad but it never really hit home. So I've tried this before but this is why it is different this time. I am going through it starting at square one. I was trying to make too big of changes in the past where I bit off more than I could chew and now I'm looking to focus on small changes. So my first thing is too look at my diet and then we will bring in fitness. So my battle plan is to look at things one week at a time. This week's is to establish a food journal and in the future I think I will look to reduce my liquid calories. Eventually I will want to look at eating paleo but small steps are going to be better. I'm afraid that the hardest thing is going to be when we start our new semester and I get back to hanging out with my friends (in 2-3 days), mostly because I don't know how supportive they will be. I understand that I haven't given them a chance yet but just from how they are, it's not something they would show support for but it doesn't mean they would put me down either, more just indifference. But that's why I posted here and I will be making a battle log because I don't really have a support group and this will keep me accountable even if no one else reads it. Anyway, I've been doing this the past 4 days and so far so good. I'm going to start to figure out my next step in the upcoming days but my focus is to take little steps and form good habits.
  8. I have been doing so well! I have been in the gym every MWF so I really like the starting strength. I started off lighter than I probably needed to. But I just have been making slightly bigger jumps. I feel stronger already
  9. I am actually really lucky that I currently are not living in a dorm so I have full access to a kitchen. I'm more limited in time with classes, work, and homework that I'm only home 3-4 waking hours a day. So far my veggie goal is going great. I have been eating a lot of raw carrots because they are so convenient. But it has worked so far. I feel like my best way to start is with veggies because it is such a huge part of eating better! I started Starting Strength yesterday and I actually really enjoyed it. I had never lifted weights before then and of course I practiced a whole bunch of good posture at home before I got to the gym and it actually turned out okay. I can't wait to lift tomorrow again!
  10. It all looks so good! I heard about zoodles but haven't had a chance to try them yet. I'm a college student and I don't have a lot of time usually but I might try it this weekend with some spaghetti sauce.
  11. I'm a fan of asparagus. It's probably my favorite. I also like summer squash and zucchini. I'm also going to try to eat more broccoli. I feel like veggies is the most important part of having a better diet so that's why I chose it as my first diet quest.
  12. Hey I'm mac.stran and this is my very first challenge. I am so excited to start! So currently I weigh 310 lbs and have rediscovered my love of rock climbing. Unfortunately, I currently am too heavy to do so but one of my goals is to get back in it. So my main quest is to lose 75 lbs. For this challenge I have 2 quests. Quest 1: I was never a big vegetable eater. But in order to help myself be successful I need to become a veggie lover. I am ready to embrace them I just need to get in the habit of eating them. So my goal is to eat at least two veggies a day. Measurement: A = 40 (started a day late) days. B = 36 days. C = 32 days eating at least 2 veggies a day. Quest 2: I have my athletic moments and I really want to start strength training so I bought Starting Strength and want to start it. So every M/W/F I want to strength train. Measurement: A = 17 days strength training. B = 15 days (5 weeks). C = 12 days (4 weeks). Let's do this! I want to rock climb!
  13. Hi! I don't know what to say and have so much going on that I feel like hello is the best place to start. The next place to start would be what I did on labor day. I work a lot or have school so come labor day I found myself having to do neither so I pack up the car threw the family inside and made the 3 hour trek up to Wisconsin to do something I needed to do. Climb a mountain. Literally. This is it. You see I am not the most athletic person and I weight 300 hundred pounds but it did what I never thought it would do. It made me discover my love of climbing and to get healthy. I'm a student currently in college and love fixing bikes.
