  1. is there anyone you can eat with? College is the worst for cooking and eating because it's just a hassle. (or so I have been told, I went to culinary school ) For me, if I have other people to cook for I actually cook like a person. It's so much easier to cook for 4 or 6 or even 10 than one. Do you have roommates? Can you round-robin cooking nights? Find some culinary kid and work out a deal? I was cooking all.the.time in college. (duh) I had so much food that I was always hoping someone would come eat. As long as you are ok with eating 75 slightly different variations of coq-au-vin while they prepare for finals you're set!
  2. I have never LARPed, but I have cooked/catered big groups, and kids. Honestly, I don't bring food on hikes. Lots of water, and meals. I don't need to snack throughout the day, it's really not that physically taxing... i mean, we could probably use the calorie burn. If you just have to bring something, do apples and peanutbutter. They even make little "to-go" cups these days. I used the fold over baggies and put a couple tablespoons in a corner and tied it off. When you need it you bite a hole in the corner and squeeze it on your apple. I have two thoughts for your lunches. I don't know what you mean by farying meals between goblins and elves. I imaging they are in different places geographically? Either get yourself a cart with wheels, or make them come to you. We have age groups frequently and they all just are assigned a time to come to a place to eat. That way you don't have an entire summercamp in your biz at once. 1. Sandwiches. They are painfully easy. Get tupperwear with ingredents and people can put on what they want/ leave off what they don't. They make squeezable everything these days so you don't even have to fill squeeze bottles. Which you could do if you want to save a few $$ on mayo. Get a bag of mixed apples and oranges and a bunch of bananas. Some water or whatever your drinking pleaseure and bam. Done. 2. bento boxes. This will take a lot of planning and prep on your part but globit they are adorable! If this is something you would like to think about I would love to brainstorm with you
  3. I think it's fantastic! I was sick with something and binge watched a bunch the otherday myself. Alton Brown is srsly my hero. I loved his "food rules" and even made that sardine sandwich he made (it was weird, but strangly satisfying) Hows it going? what's a sample day like for you? i am going to friend you on MFP
  4. how goes your googling? I didn't get to post much, I was surfing on my phone between classes The idea is, wild yeast break down a lot of the little nasties that are in grains (wheat) and make them things we can digest better. Fermented foods are as old as time. There are certain things that you see come up in all cultures, they all have some kind of flat bread (tortilla, naan pitas) usually held in your hand and used to shovel the meat and veggies in. There is always a peserved meat, salted and smoked are popular. Then there is fermented vegetables. Kraut, kimchi, Kombucha, Beer, wine, pickled somethings. Sourdough falls into the pickled somethings. GIven time the natural yeast break up the food into something more edible. Anywho, that's why I eat some breads. heres some readings this first it's the best -> http://realfoodforager.com/5-reasons-to-make-sourdough-your-only-bread/ http://chriskresser.com/heavenly-sourdough-buckwheat-pancakes this is entitled "what's wrong with paleo" which... whatever. We are all adults and arecapabale of sorting out the bull and taking away what works for us. I think he brings up a good point on fermented foods, is why I share. I like Paleo and enjoy a lot of the recipies. With the popularity of it my local big box grocery has started carrying grassfed beef from a local rancher, so that's fantastic too. Also, I can eat a bunch of eggs and people don't clutch their pearls. http://climatedesk.org/2014/01/michael-pollan-explains-whats-wrong-with-the-paleo-diet/
  5. i read a blog once that she deemed it "neutral" now.. IMHO you should try sourdough pizza dough. do some googlin' about sourdough, its good reading
  6. I took a swimming class last semester. Before that I didn't swim, I'm not afraid of the water, I enjoy canoeing and kayaking, anywho. I really enjoyed the class... then it ended... and I was alone in the world! I went today for open swim, it was my first time swimming "alone" and I loved it The locker room was being renovated last semester so this semester was the first time I was able to change without walking through the hall etc. They even have a machine that dries your swimsuit out! What?! So I can leave all my gear and not carry a soggy swimsuit and towel around. OR!!! I can take a quick swim between classes! I have really been trying to make my lifestyle more healthy. Setting up my life so it's easy to be more active and this discovery in how easy swimming can be is really awesome!
  7. I am running away. I am the runner who plugs in and runs until I cant anymore, then turn around and run home. I run because I spend most of my day taking care of others and worried about someone else and I need 20 miles a week where its about me!
  8. The drinking game with pushups is an awesome idea! I set up the bike trainer behind the couch. The kids say the elliptical is too loud.
  9. Awesome job! 3 weeks for the 5k is amazing progress! I hear you about the yelling, sometimes I miss it, workouts are so quiet without a coach screaming "is that it? Get it!gogogogogo"
  10. Can/ should you wrap if you are bleeding? I have eczma on my hands and the steroid cream causes the skin to thin.. blahblah long story short, I bleed all over everything. I don't lift much weight, but I like to climb rope and its not sanitary to bleed all over a rope. I feel like gloves do make your grip suffer, but what about wrapping? also, ty all for the sidebar that putting women down is unacceptable. Srsly. Women deal with these little jabs every day. Its not cool or ok.
  11. Swimming! I am shaped like a 12 year old boy and have noticed a hint of shape from swimming and squats. Making your booty round helps your waist look slimmer
  12. Awesome thread ladies. I am a physical education (gym teacher) student, so I have to look professional while running around with 2nd graders. I have always wondered if the ladies were wearing makeup or just had dark lashes naturally. Im a redhead and have light lashes. Mascara makes all the difference in apperence for me.
  13. I can never find anywhere to run. I end up jogging around the neighborhood or the HS track after soccer practice. I injured my knee, and have a lot of weight to lose makes me embarassed that I am slow and wouldnt make a good running buddy. I would love to keep you motivated, and you me
  14. I am right near you both In Madison Twp off rt 4 I'm running the applefest 5k sept. 28th! Maybe see you there? I ran in the WWP balloon fest 5k this july too
  15. Target running capri have drawstrings! Drawstrings are the difference between wearing them or having them bounce off your biscuits when you're running, to me. I have a pair of Old Navy "compression" that I love.... for Zumba, coaching, yoga, the grocery, when I have to meet someone professional and want to look nice, but we are going to be training or something. Anyway, I love them but they are the worst for running. Target is the only place in my price range that has drawstrings, that I have found, that's not crap (I don't shop at walmart, I don't know what they have)
  16. Keep looking in the mirror it will keep your chest up. I want to see you're rear video too, I feel like you can put your feet a little more apart. I don't know if guys hips have the same issues girls do, but I can get much lower (buns to feet) if I widen my stance. My everywhere is tight, so I can't help you there with any specific hip flexor stretches. I added weekly yoga because I am just wired to be tight everywhere. I have noticed a difference in everything. Squats are deeper, running is easier, I swim faster. Yoga is really nice!
  17. This thread is the best! Such excellent ideas! I like apple slices and Sunbutter, coffee or beef jerky. I can't have dairy, but I may take some lactaid to try the protein powder and cottage cheese. I love cottage cheese!
  18. Week 5:) I swear I struggled with breathing until then. I didn't know if I should breath fast or slow or shallow or what! About week 5 I was in decent enough cardiovascular shape and found a good rhythm.
