  1. Finally caught up!!! Love seeing your progress and gains! And yay productivity~
  2. King Dancer Pose Pics from Wednesday: Yeah, my left side is crap. I know, I know... My attempt at Crow Pose on Wednesday: Feathered Peacock from Wednesday. Bad angle, bad frame, and bad attempt. Ahahahaha. Here for prosperity reasons, in any case: And finally, splits progress pics from Thursday:
  3. 五日 Ninja star to the head, that's what yesterday felt like QUEST 1: NINJA TRAINING - 68% Rest day. QUEST 2: GO NINJA GO NINJA GO - 50% Rest day. QUEST 3: NINJA BALANCE - 100% Completed for the week. LIFE QUEST: NINJA BENTO - 100% Off Friday! SIDE QUEST: NINJA MISSIONS - 43% Got sidelined by a massive headache and the prelude to Shark Week. Giving myself a Bye because I seriously couldn't do anything yesterday. Hard earned day off yesterday, that's for sure. I woke up and started playing DA:I (I started a new character to romance Cullen with about a couple of weeks ago, and to have Alistair as my Warden companion) but couldn't play for more than a couple of hours before my head started to hurt. I hadn't eaten well, so I thought a real meal would help, but it didn't. So I turned off my game and took a nap, hoping that would help. It didn't. Finally, Tyro decided he needed out of the apartment because he hadn't seen the sun in 24 hours at that point, so he went to pick up our librettos for Evita and run an errand to include getting me some ibuprofen. That didn't help either. Though it didn't help the Shark Week cramps. Kind of. Eventually I came to the conclusion that while my glasses likely wasn't the cause, they certainly didn't help. Normally I wear contacts, but since yesterday was a rest day I decided to give my eyes a break from the contacts and wear my glasses. In the late afternoon/evening, I acquiesced to just lying down for the rest of the day since sitting up and standing made my headache worse, by lying down didn't feel so bad. And then I put on my glasses so I could watch the latest episode of "Fresh Off the Boat" and my head started hurting again. If not for the fact I'd been playing logic games on my cell phone for the past couple of hours prior to this (yes, without my glasses) and was fine, I'd blame looking at the screen for so long, but no, it was the glasses. The last time I saw the eye doctor a few months ago, I meant to get new glasses, but I hated all the frame styles and they were swamped with customers, so I decided, eh, I don't wear glasses all that often anyway, so I'm content with just getting my new contact prescription. My contacts are a stronger prescription than my glasses, so it's not at all unusual and expected that my head would hurt when I spend most of my week in contacts and then switch to glasses for a day. I'm not sure if I'd blame my day long headache on it, though (honestly, I'm blaming Shark Week), but it certainly didn't make things better. So when I see the eye doctor in September, I'll make absolutely certain to get myself a new pair of glasses and I'll just limit my glasses use (even more so than I do already) until then. SO glad I worked out on Thursday...
  4. 四日 Just a regular office ninja QUEST 1: NINJA TRAINING - 68% I must workout at least 5x/week. ✓✓✓ I must lift at least 2x/week. ✓ I must work through pull-up progressions and toes-to-bar progressions at least 2x/week. ✓✓✓✓ I must work on flexibility for at least 10 minutes at least 5x/week. ✓✓✓ The other three workouts must be over a duration of at least 30 minutes/session. This can be cumulative throughout the day if necessary. ✓✓ QUEST 2: GO NINJA GO NINJA GO - 50% Not for Thursday. QUEST 3: NINJA BALANCE - 100% As part of my warm-up, I worked on handstands (and got the confidence up where I felt okay doing it in the weight room, so major victory!), cCrow, Tree in relevé, Warrior III, and the supported shoulderstand. Also later during my stretching I worked on the King Dancer Pose. Best news: I managed a 6-second Crow! Less good news: my right ankle was feeling really weird. Like weak, almost brittle weird. :/ LIFE QUEST: NINJA BENTO - 100% Made myself a PB&J and packed an apple and Veggie Stix. I did not touch it because I was so busy I........... forgot. But I brought it, and that's what counts! SIDE QUEST: NINJA MISSIONS - 43% Nooooope. Was too busy at work to attempt to knock of anything on my personal to-do list and once I got home it was a giant Did Not Want. I don't regret it though, and I figure that if I have a productive Saturday AND Sunday, I can forgive myself this rest day from missions without penalty. Another crazy day at work, so much so that I barely had time to catch a breath and if I hadn't stopped for a brief second to glance at the clock, I might have forgotten to stop working. ;;;;;;;;;; But good thing I did, and so I was able to get to the gym, as crazy busy as it was. And the weight room was actually filled with not!curlers. I mean, of course there was the one or two because curling isn't inherently a bad lift, but it was nice after Tuesday to see more of a variety of lifts. But for me, no lifting, only bodyweight work. I think Thursdays are becoming my "FOCUS ON THE MINI-CHALLENGE" day. Warm-Up: TMNT Mobility + mountain climbers Balance/Inversions ~11 minutes (see above for what I did) Decline Push-ups: 1x6, 6x7 Assisted Pistol Squats: 4x4 both sides Eccentric Pull-ups: 3x3 Toes-to-Bar: 3x3 Dragon Flags: 3x5, 1x7, 1x5 Beginner Shrimp Squats: 1x5, 2x7 (both legs), 1x6 on right, 1x7 on left Pike Push-Ups: 1x5, 2x4 Cooldown: 15-minute flexibility A thing I noted for my flexibility in my notebook: backbends were still giving me trouble. The last time I tried previous to Thursday, my lower back was screaming; this Thursday, my middle back was grumping at me. Sigh. Spoiler alert: I tried backbends today (Saturday) and they were FINE. So idk. I think I overworked my body doing my regular workout that my back wanted nothing to do with backbends. Is this a sign I'm getting old? Camel Pose was A-OK though, so idk. But then, Camel Pose isn't nearly as taxing, so idk. I have some pictures, which I'll post later, once I've gotten myself all caught up!
  5. I have pretty decent balance when I'm flat-footed on the ground, but once I get up to relevé, I find myself in trouble, so wherever I can take my balance up to relevé, I do. There are some balance poses in which I have trouble even flat-footed (see: King Dancer Pose/Lord of the Dance Pose, whichever one it is, idk), but something like Tree Pose, relevé is where I start to find the challenge I crave. Yep, there are worse things than being an exercise junkie! I mean, we do have to be careful not to overdo it because rest days are essential to injury prevention and building muscle, and spending too much time in the gym in one go can be detrimental, but loving exercise is so much better than hating it, imo! Food is always best. I exercise so I can eat all the things.
  6. 三日 All sorts of successes! QUEST 1: NINJA TRAINING - 42% I must workout at least 5x/week. ✓✓ I must lift at least 2x/week. ✓ I must work through pull-up progressions and toes-to-bar progressions at least 2x/week. ✓✓ I must work on flexibility for at least 10 minutes at least 5x/week. ✓✓ The other three workouts must be over a duration of at least 30 minutes/session. This can be cumulative throughout the day if necessary. ✓ QUEST 2: GO NINJA GO NINJA GO - 50% Worked on the tango 8-step basic, the front ocho, and the back ocho, the samba basic step (mostly getting it up to a fast tempo without getting fumbling feet), and the salsa basic step and back step. QUEST 3: NINJA BALANCE - 67% Spent 10 minutes near the end of my workout on Crow stand, Feathered Peacock, shoulderstand, Warrior III, Tree Pose (in relevé, as I do), Lord of the Dance, Extended Hand to Big Toe, and Half Moon. I have some videos that I took since I did all of this stuff at home, and I'll post them once I get them uploaded. They aren't impressive by any means, but more exist for the sake of progress checking. And form checking. I learned a few things about what I'm doing wrong by reviewing them myself already! LIFE QUEST: NINJA BENTO - 50% Yes! Brought some leftovers to work. SIDE QUEST: NINJA MISSIONS - 43% Did so many things! Planned out not only yesterday's workout but today's too, checked the mail, picked up my Adderall prescription, bought some personal groceries that Tyro wouldn't have bought because it's the stuff I usually just have at my office at work (protein bars for emergency protein fixes, Stevia, tea, etc.), and I updated my budget some. Busy, busy non-stop day yesterday. Oh man. What are breathers because that did not exist for me yesterday. ;;; Once I got off work, instead of going to the gym I desperately needed to get my prescription filled, so I did my workout at home. What I did: Warm-Up: TMNT Mobility + 15-minute Zumba Dance Basics (see above for list) Balance/Inversions (see above for list) Dragon Flags: 3x6 Elbows-In Push-ups: 1x3 (seriously my arms did not want to cooperate, even when I tried to switch to regular push-ups later, oh man) Cool-down: 12-minute flexibility A few lessons learned, one of the most important being: if I don't have to hurry up and get back to work, or if I'm not under any time constraints, I am SUCH an exercise junkie. If I was doing any of this at the gym yesterday, I'd say I was a gym rat, but this was all at home. ;;; I only stopped because Tyro was pouting and Sunny was howling (I closed the door so that he couldn't bother me by getting underfoot as I was trying to dance, and so he wouldn't attack me once I started doing yoga) and dinner was smelling real good. If not for the combination of those three things, I might have kept going until my stomach started screaming at me for food.
  7. 二日 Working, working away~ QUEST 1: NINJA TRAINING - 26% I must lift at least 2x/week. ✓ I must work through pull-up progressions and toes-to-bar progressions at least 2x/week. ✓ I must work on flexibility for at least 10 minutes at least 5x/week. ✓ The other three workouts must be over a duration of at least 30 minutes/session. This can be cumulative throughout the day if necessary. The flexibility time can count as part of the 30 minutes (and yes, if I work on flexibility for 30 minutes, that alone will be enough to count), as can any work done towards the two quests below. QUEST 2: GO NINJA GO NINJA GO - 0% Not for yesterday. QUEST 3: NINJA BALANCE - 33% Spent 10 minutes near the end of my workout on handstands, Tree Pose (in relevé because of course I did), Warrior III, Crow, and Feathered Peacock. LIFE QUEST: NINJA BENTO - 0% No groceries, no bento. SIDE QUEST: NINJA MISSIONS - 33% Yep! While Tyro did the bulk of the grocery shopping, I stopped by the store on my way home from my coaching session to grab what he forgot, I cut my cat's claws, updated my budget, and did my nightly routine. Yesterday was thankfully a so much better day. I was able to go clear-headed even without taking my Adderall, though my focus was a bit haywire, at least I had lucidity. (I'm on my last pill of Adderall and I won't have time to pick up my new prescription until after work tonight, and today I need my Adderall more than yesterday, so I saved that last pill for today.) One of my big projects is finally seeming less chaotic, even with my team lead bringing in some new items to the table, but those are mostly things that can get pushed off for a couple of months when I start up Rev E of this project. Rev D is a giant pain, but it's coming together nicely, so yay. I was also finally able to take a look at another project I'm supposed to be working with my manager on, so things are coming together at work! Near the end of the lunch hour, since it was my only opportunity to get to the gym, I went -- and walked in to a sight I swear you only see in something like a Bro Science video. Nearly EVERYBODY was curling, EVERYWHERE. Which would be fine, except dudes were curling in the squat rack, at both the bench press stations, on all of the benches, and a couple of guys were standing and curling. It was........ bizarre. And a bit infuriating. I hated everyone in the weight room at that moment except for the guys curling at the curling station/chair/bench thing and the ONE GUY who was actually doing something other than curling -- deadlifting. I shouldn't have hated on the guys standing and curling but once I took stock in how many guys were curling, they were the last ones I noticed and therefore the "straw the broke the camel's back" so to speak. Sigh. So I did a bit of an extended and slow warm-up while I stared down the guy curling in the squat rack. He finished not long after I finished my warm-up, thank goodness, and by the time I was done with my squats the rest of the gym had basically cleared out. Oh, going to the gym during the lunch hour. What a trip that was. Anyway, what I did: Warm-Up: TMNT Mobility + mountain climbers Squats: 1x5x64lb warmup, 3x5x128lb, 2x3x128lb (PR!) Inverted Rows, Legs Straight (interleaved with squats): 3x2 Bench Press: 1x5x45lb warmup, 4x5x66lb, 1x4x66lb Beginner Shrimp Squats (interleaved with bench presses): 4x7 each leg Hanging V-Raises: 1x3, 2x4, 2x3 (with one toes-to-bar done successfully) 10-minute inversions and balances Cooldown: 15-minute flexibility Had my coaching session after work and with the chaos that was March and how soon May is coming up, we decided to push off the recital until after Evita closes, which gives me more time to prepare my pieces and alleviates all of my panic over the thought of having to pull this thing together. Then it was to home, where I vegged out the rest of the day. I'd forgotten I had intended to try to do more for the mini-challenge until after I had started to soak myself in the bath. ;;;;;;; Oh well, will try today!!
  8. Thanks! The outcome of the battles aren't always so victorious for me, but I'm glad on Monday it was. Always take the chance, that's the lesson learned here....... unless there's a good reason not to. For example, at my last job, if I was having a day of bad anxiety/depression/etc., if I forced myself to go into work anyway, I would be less than productive as I've exerted all of my energy (or spoons) just getting to work, and I had nothing left to give. So I learned to just stay home. Now that I'm at a job I love, going even when I'm in a bad headspace tends to make things better, though Monday it was a unique situation in which I felt fine in the morning until the instant I sat at my desk, and that's when the fogginess settled in and only relented when the Adderall kicked in, and even only then for a few hours, sigh. But yes, the difference: things I like to do versus the things I don't. Sometimes it's a gray area when it comes to working out as I've had panic attacks during my workouts before and had to stop because being unable to breathe is a terrible way to exercise, and even with social events it can be tricky since, as an introvert, there are certain social events that will drain my energy rather than help out my serotonin levels, but each individual is different, and mental illness is a bitch. In the end, it's all about taking care of yourself and knowing and understanding yourself and your limitations. Tl;dr -- yes, what you said.
  9. Contributed 8 sets of Blizzaga and 5 sets of Aero to Kuja. After I get home tonight I may try to fire away with some Firaga (badumtiss? too weak?), but after my benching today push-ups of any variation weren't happening. Maybe after a few hours' rest I can try to pull off some meager sets...
  10. Nooooooooooooope. Work is busy as all hell starting from Memorial Day and lasting through September. It's like Science doesn't want anybody who works interplanetary satellite ops around here to take a vacation this year. We were thinking of trying to make it out to NYC this month, but those plans fell through, and then we were thinking about taking a trip out to Ireland in the fall, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen, either. There's talk of maybe a cruise vacation in the fall instead, but I'm not holding my breath, tbh. ;;; Though I am going to Oklahoma for my boyfriend's cousin's wedding, but I'm hesitant at counting that as a vacation for various reasons. Ah, well~ As for staying active, it depends on the purpose of my traveling! If I'm visiting relatives in Tokyo, just being in Tokyo is enough of an exercise because you basically literally walk EVERYWHERE, all of the time, FOREVER. If I visit relatives in Cincinnati, it's more or less like when I travel for work (see below). If I'm vacationing, well, I never stay put when I vacation. It's why I don't mind cheap hotel rooms; they exist only to store my stuff and so I can get clean and sleep, and if I sleep longer than 7-9 hours while on vacation, I feel like I'm wasting my hard-earned trip. I'm constantly out and about to see and do all of the things, and so vacationing itself is enough to keep me active! But when I travel for, say, work (or as I noted above, when I visit my relatives in Cincinnati), staying active gets trickier. I hit up the hotel gym, but hotel gyms are often lackluster in what I need. I try to get by though with bodyweight work, dumbbells (if available), or if there's a pool and it's not a ridiculous situation (i.e., an outdoor pool in the middle of winter, or childrens everywhere because it's spring/winter/summer break), I like to go for a swim. Depending on where my hotel is located and the timing of meetings, I try to go for a run outdoors (though when I visit my relatives in Cincinnati, this is Not an Option regardless of whether I do it at the hotel and ESPECIALLY in my grandmother's neighborhood, which is basically the complete opposite of a safe neighborhood). Otherwise, I bring my barre workout DVD with me try to find the space in my hotel room to do that.
  11. Ahahaha, having so ideal readings on LDL that the machine literally cannot compute, I love that feel.
  12. 一日 Doing battle with my own psyche QUEST 1: NINJA TRAINING - 0% Rest day. QUEST 2: GO NINJA GO NINJA GO - 0% Rest day. QUEST 3: NINJA BALANCE - 0% Rest day. LIFE QUEST: NINJA BENTO - 0% No groceries, no bento. SIDE QUEST: NINJA MISSIONS - 17% Yes! I submitted my renter's insurance paperwork to my apartment complex, I updated my budget, I planned today's workout, and I did my nightly routine. That was all that could get accomplished yesterday, so pass. Yesterday was a Day. Oh my goodness. Anxiety attacks and panic attacks for seemingly no good reason, Adderall only being effective at giving me maybe 3-4 hours of lucidity all day, and just cloudy brain processes through the rest of the afternoon. I was worried it would continue through the evening and so I almost decided to skip the acting class, but I decided to take a chance -- maybe I'll feel better once I'm there? Except the panic and anxiety kept getting worse until I put in the Spamalot soundtrack and finally, finally, there was some alleviation to my symptoms. So, I got to class, and everything just went up from there. All the mental and emotional gymnastics my brain put me through exhausted me even before class let out, though, and luckily I made sure to be one of the first ones to do my mock commercial audition (I'm taking Acting on Camera I, which sounds like will be very focused on commercial work since that's the main market in Denver for actors) so I could just quietly suffer in my seat until we were dismissed. Got home and crashed. Today, luckily, so far, is looking to be a better day. Also, one of the exercises we did in class yesterday just sort of drove home the point everyone makes to me about me that I don't really believe until I see something like this. We had to spend five minutes talking to a partner in class, and then we took those stories and retold them at the camera as though they were our own. My partner could not stop hyping about me. ;;; Between my day job, my new love for stage combat and fencing, and the fact that I lift all the heavy weights for as tiny as I am... yeah. Okay, All My Friends, I get it now. I'm awesome. Also, I think I'll love my classmates a ton. We seem to get along really well, we're all super supportive of each other, and honestly, this feels like it's going to be a great class. Overall, I am so happy I said "fuck you" to my brain and forced myself to go to class. It was a toss-up if going was going to make things worse or better, and I'm so happy it made things better!
  13. Today is unfortunately a rest day for me (no time for the gym and I'm not wearing something that would be very wise to try to sneak reps in throughtout the day ;;;; ), but I am working on incorporating some of the black mage things into my routine for tomorrow!
  14. Considering my personal goals, white and black mage is where I will likely spend most of the battles, with white mage closer to the end of the 4 weeks, lmao. Though considering my challenge theme, I also feel obligated to be a ninja at least once. Ready for this!! Now to decide what class to be for this first battle~ [EDIT: LBR, I think black mage is the best choice for me in this first battle. So black mage it is!]
  15. "Always be yourself, unless you can be the Dread Pirate Roberts. Then be the Dread Pirate Roberts." Ultimate words of wisdom. YASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I love it!! I already can't believe I didn't get into it sooner.
  16. 〇日 Yes, yes, I know, a day late when I meant to get this up yesterday, but hey, at least I'm getting it up! QUEST 1: NINJA TRAINING As I discovered on Saturday, I need to incorporate cardio back into my routine somehow so that I no longer die during drills at fencing class. Seriously, for as in-shape as I'm in, that was kind of embarrassing that I needed to sit down. My strength is awesome and my muscles were feeling fine -- tired, but fine -- but my cardio was just crap. I still don't know if I'll be doing HIIT or running (or combining the two and working on intervals), but I will try to make at least one of my other three weekly workouts focused on cardio in some fashion. Zumba in this case won't count, but I also won't make it a requirement. I already have enough. To recap, my requirements for my "Workout 5x/week" quest: I must lift 2x/week. I must work through pull-up progressions and toes-to-bar progressions at least 2x/week. I must work on flexibility for at least 10 minutes at least 5x/week. The other three workouts must be over a duration of at least 30 minutes/session. This can be cumulative throughout the day if necessary. The flexibility time can count as part of the 30 minutes (and yes, if I work on flexibility for 30 minutes, that alone will be enough to count), as can any work done towards the two quests below. I did take out the pistol squats requirement. With the weight I'm squatting now, working on pistols more than once a week will be extraordinarily difficult to fit in and have it be of any use to me. I will still work on one-legged squats on bodyweight days, but it's not worth making a requirement if I'm only going to do it the once in a week. QUEST 2: GO NINJA GO NINJA GO I'm already afraid that this will fall by the wayside, but I am determined. This will happen. Once upon a December, I had a challenge where my dance quest was work to make a list of dance moves I want to work on and focus on doing those twice a week and I thought to do the same this challenge, but I also decided to just keep it simple. While I will aim to work on specific moves 2x/week (ideally two moves per style), I will maintain flexibility in my life and my schedule and just keep it at the general high-level. As long as I work the styles, I'm good. The emphasis will be on tango, specifically Argentine tango, but of course I'll make sure to work through samba and salsa because why not. QUEST 3: NINJA BALANCE 10 minutes a day, 3x/week, I'm not worry about this. I will continue to aim for a solid handstand as my primary goal, with crow stand and feathered peacock stand being my secondary focuses. Of course, I want to do the other things, too, since I do love working on these things and thus wanted to get them into my repertoire for funsies reasons, but those are the three skills I most hope to improve upon over the next four weeks. LIFE QUEST: NINJA BENTO The homemade lunch quest is already going not too well since I meant to go grocery shopping yesterday and then didn't and I won't have time until Wednesday, and we have very little food in the apartment. ;;;;;;;;; BUT! This quest is pretty lenient on the "homemade" front in that yes, it had to have been prepared by a human being I have a face and name to. It does not have to be me. Leftovers are 100% okay, as are PB&J sandwiches if I'm really desperate. Basically, the real thing is, what doesn't count as homemade are of course anything I bought pre-prepared from the store, frozen dinners, and anything from the cafeteria. Tyro said he'll try to buy some groceries tonight, so hopefully tomorrow I can get right on top of this, no problem! SIDE QUEST: NINJA MISSIONS Unlike last challenge, I will not be providing a list of all the things on my to-do list for the day. I will provide a list of all the things I manage to accomplish, though, and give an honest assessment of, "Did I do everything I could have possibly done today?" If the answer is yes, pass! If the answer is no, then fail. Simple as that. And now, without further ado, a Week 1 Look Ahead! Monday: Rest day, because I'm busy all day at work so there's no opportunity for me to get to the gym and I have acting class this evening. Tuesday: Lifting day + inversions + flexibility. Coaching session in evening. Wednesday: Dance day + inversions + flexiblity. Thursday: Bodyweight workout day. Possibly HIIT. We'll see. Also flexibility Friday: Cardio day of some capacity. Probably just running. Flexibility if I do the things. Alternatively, rest, depending on how I'm feeling. Saturday: Fencing! Also, flexibility. Sunday: Lifting day + inversions + flexibility
  17. So, yes. I fell off the face of the planet. Luckily Zero Week is good for that, but work was crazy busy and after work was filled with a lot of de-stressing necessities. But! I am back and ready to get at it! I am still maintaining a Monday through Sunday challenge format, which means while the challenge officially starts today, today for me is simply a Day Zero, so expect that post to come soon! But the biggest thing on the challenge front: I took my first fencing class yesterday! It was so much fun, I think I'm in love. We worked on foil, and we did some basics, some drills, and then ended the class with matches. I was surprised that I won my first bout, though my second was not so successful. I need to learn how to fight against someone who is taller and thus has a much longer reach than me. I did manage to get one point off of him at least? And if we had been fighting with the epee I might have gotten more because I did hit a few more times, but I either didn't hit the correct target area or it hadn't been my right-of-way. The big thing I took away that I need to work on as far as general fitness goes is my cardio. Oh my god. When we started working drills with our helmets on, I not only overheated but I wasn't able to catch my breath. Between that and the lightheadedness, I had to go sit down for a few minutes. The instructor was kind about it, as he regaled me the story of his very first lesson, which was a 20-minute private lesson and he had to sit down three times. That I only had to sit down the once during an hour and a half lesson is impressive, in comparison. But, yeah, I think I will be incorporating cardio (and eating a bigger breakfast before going to class) back into my routine somehow. I just can't decide between running or HIIT. HIIT is probably more related to the physical demands of fencing since it's strength + cardio whereas running is just straight cardio (unless I do hills/intervals, ugh), but I prefer running. Ah, well, I'll get it figured out. Thanks!! Or. OR. I can be both. Like this guy: Woo! Glad to have you along for the ride again~
  18. LMAO, on my thread I was lamenting about how I missed an opportunity to do a pirates-themed challenge vs. a ninja-themed one, and here you are with pirates. Because I only found the time to start thread-hopping this afternoon shhhhh... NINJAS VS. PIRATES LET'S GO
