  1. Hey all! So one of my long-term goals is to run a Spartan Sprint! It's not going to be my first six-week challenge, but I want to slowly ease my way into training for the sprint. I'm thinking about doing one that's going to happen in 2015. I already do light bodyweight exercises, but I want to be in total beast mode by the time the race comes around. Where do I start?
  2. Hello! You sound like your goals are very well rounded, as are the exercises you're doing! Welcome aboard!
  3. Hello all! I've just signed up for the forum today (and yes, I probably will be posting a lot... that being said... I'm looking for an accountabilibuddy! Someone who wants to be my workout friend! Get at me!) I have no idea what I'm doing with this, so please be patient with me. Technology and I aren't friendly. I keep track of my food by journal, as well as my exercise log... I do strength training (body weight only) Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Sundays are yoga days, and Tuesdays and Thursdays, for now, are general recovery days (walking, mostly). That being said, when I move, Tuesdays and Thursdays might become kung-fu days. Saturdays are "relax" days, so my body can chill out. I have a bad knee, so I sometimes take a Tuesday or Thursday off because it hurts too much to do anything. I'm hoping as I get better, I can work out a full six days a week without having to turn one of my exercise days into an "off" day. Today, I did: - 50 incline push ups (2 sets) - 12 assisted pull-ups (2 sets... ow... T-Rex arms are real) - 4 minutes of planks (3 sets) - 80 bodyweight squats (2 sets) Well... here's hoping I stay focused!
  4. Hey there, Olivia! I just graduated college and played for the women's team at my school. I'm rather slender, but played forward because I have a forward mentality! ("Get ball, squish anyone in the way.") While size is important, mentality also plays a big part in it! And if you're 5'9? Be prepared to be a forward. I'm 5'8, and that's where they put me. The best thing to do for rugby is a combination of strength training and cardio. My coach recommended lifting, especially for forwards, because forwards really rely on overall strength to do well. In the scrum, you need strong shoulders and back to not get injured, and strong legs to push the other side away from the ball! Also, burpees. Burpees for days. You will grow to have a love/hate relationship with them. You'll love what they will do, but will hate doing them. I would start with a bodyweight workout (that's usually what I did.... I didn't start lifting until my last semester of school), as that not only includes cardio but also makes you stronger. Interval training might help as well. Send me a PM if you want to talk rugby sometime! I already miss it!
  5. You sound like my kind of person. Books and music? Where have you been, my long lost friend? You can do it! I believe in you! =D
  6. Hey Deepforest! I was a band kid once =) (way back in high school, but I still think of my band days fondly... gosh I sound old now. I've only just graduated college...) I'm also pretty lost about the guilds. I think your goals would align you more with rangers, as you want the endurance as well as the strength to do those sorts of activities. (Fellow Potter!Nerd here. I'm also super excited about Diagon Alley. I'm so sad that I live really far away from Florida)
  7. Hi Amanda! I'm also extending an offer for accountabilibuddies! I just joined today and need to set up my battle log! I also have serious issues with procrastinating... and junk food. Maybe we can help each other out?
  8. @ItsDaniel, that's fantastic! It's always nice to meet another rugger!
  9. Hello, fellow Rebels! I'm NicTheRugger, new to the forum! I'm super excited to be here and am ready to level up my life. Here's the thing. I need your help. I played rugby at college (hence the user name), and I'm still very much a rugger at heart. Unfortunately, a variety of circumstances (injuries, mostly) means that I probably shouldn't play rugby any more (so I can use my knees and back in the future... I've heard these things are important). As such, I'm rather out of shape, and am trying to get back into the swing of things. I've been following Nerd Fitness for about a month now, and I'm slowly getting back into the habit of being healthy. My long-term goal is to be able to do the 300 challenge (or Spartan challenge) that Steve blogged about in 25 minutes. This, however, is years and years and years (okay, maybe a year and a half) down the line. Along the way, I want to be able to 1) Eat healthier 2) Do a non-assisted pull-up 3) Run a Spartan Race 4) Start learning a martial art. However, I'm limited in funds (I just graduated undergrad, and am going to law school this August), and will be moving to a new state for school. So that means that I'm super broke, and will continue to be for several years. Which means my resources are limited. I'm hoping that by joining the NerdFitness community, I'll have a way to ask for help and get genuinely helpful answers. I can't wait to start leveling up! -Nic
