  1. Ah yeah training dummy :-) thanks! I'll incorporate these in my challenge/routine
  2. Most of the whovians I know got REALLY hooked by Tennant (10th doctor), which is understandable. I for one thought Eccleston (9th) was GLORIOUS :-). I wouldn't advise missing 9 and 10, as it's got a British flavor that got kinda lost with Matt Smith' and Moffat's arrival. Prolly something to do with all the money flowing in from BBC America heh. My gems would be "Blink", and the Neil Gaiman episode with the amusement park on the moon. I've only seen one episode of the Capaldi regeneration so far, but I've got great hopes :-)
  3. Can't wait for the Doctor's Challenges!!!
  4. Here I am, starting my second challenge. After kinda failing the first one, I'mma try to get better on this one :-) Here's a rouge outline for now, I'll work on more details over the week-end Main Quest: Still on track to run a marathon next year :-) Themed Quest: I'll try to follow the path of Xuanzang when he started his pilgrimage from Chang'An to India, then back to Chang'An. I haven't yet figured out the total distance, but the first level of this quest is Chang'An (Xi'An) to Hami - 1965km. I'll log running and biking in here, else I'll never achieve it haha. Using runkeeper for tracking. Hope I'll meet that Monkey King on the road and he'll teach me a few neat moves :-) Quest #1 - Fitness: 7 minutes workout or Beginner Bodyweight Workout once a day Quest #2 - Fitness: http://www.doyogawithme.com/yoga-beginners after working out, improving my stretching. Haven't figured out which one I'll do though Quest #3 - Food: Eat Paleo 6 days a week. Tracking w/ MyFitnessPal. I might need help here on the Carb/Fat/Prot ratio needed... Side Quest #1: Get back to coding. I've wanted to build Mobile Apps for... forever. Lost all my abilities. So I need to get back on track here. Working in a game company now, we participate in Game Jams. I'd like to be able to make something by next Game Jam (December). Side Quest #2: Monk it up! I used to wrestle and box. Need to get back to it. There's a boxing ring in my gym, and they also have some wrestling equipment (not sure what the english word for it is, those fake humans / dolls you use to practice some drills haha). So I'll train there once a week. I might need some help with my boxing form, so I might end up filming myself and showing it here :-) That's it!
  5. Woot! I'd join on that beginner yoga as well :-) (should we do a PvP challenge with Druids?) Can't wait to see the detailed plan!
  6. Hey there! Just saw this thread, prolly quite late (wasn't monk for this challenge hehe). Just wanted to say that being currently based in China (Beijing), I can help if it's needed (with the mandarin, or navigating here if you get here before meeting with your shifu). Where exactly are you planning on going? If you're staying up north you're plain lucky, it's the absolute best season to visit Beijing :-) 欢迎æ¥åˆ°ä¸å›½ (HuanYing Lai Dao ZhongGuo) as they'll tell you when you land. And for swear words, indeed firefly is more than enough hehe Can't wait to see the official challenge results.
  7. I'll be joining the Monks. I was persuaded id be joining the scouts from the beginning, since my goal is still to run a marathon by end 2015. However this challenge helped me realize I need to get back on a healthy way of life, including diet and exercise. And martial arts is still the funniest thing I've ever done, and I know that's the only way I can stay motivated on the long run: fun! Thanks Blaidd for taking care of us during this challenge!
  8. Hey! For graduating, i think I'll give a try to the Monks guild, since running clearly hasn't been a success this challenge, I feel it shouldn't be my main focus. Also, I've been missing Wrestling and Boxing, so finding someone to punch can be cool too Looking at my spreadsheet, I'd say I got the lifestyle good enough, since I didn't drink that much, and I killed my fast food consumption :-) Also, since monday, I started a 6-weeks of NO ALCOHOL at all (I do this every year), and I have finally forced myself to go 80% Primal (Paleo + dairy - you can't take cheese form a Frenchman :-D). The only thing I need to get better at is staying motivated for SPORT! I stopped running when I have guests, and have guests coming again on October and November... Reasons why I stopped running? - Guests: restaurant every night, then going to work everyday... - Heat: it is 40+ (celcius) in july and august, and VERY humid. unbearable - Pollution: It is often unbearable to run outside, Running with a mask is a PAIN, and I hate treadmills (it's SO boring...) Main reason: I'm a wuss haha. So I'll try finding something funnier to do, and run with friends on sundays at least. I'm still doing 20 to 30 minutes of cycling a day (going to work) so it helps too. My gym is only open from 9AM to 10PM, so I'll have to adapt my work/life schedule around it... Going "monk", I guess I would have to dust my gloves a little and start hitting the sack
  9. Hey, just popping by to say hi and sub to the thread. I'm bi, in a heterosexual relationship for more than 6 years. I identify as... Just me. Being queer/ally is just part of my identity, and does not define me completely (AFAIK). With my partner we're starting to talk about babies and shit, so I would fit the "with a stroller" stereotype hehe. Sorry couldn't read all 82 pages before joining, looks like there's some serious discussion going on. Looking forward to join.
  10. Hmm not quite sure I'm supposed to do it... I've been falling behind on my running goal, but lifestyle/eating-wise I kept on track :-) (see my tracking spreadsheet) I was VERY busy (family visiting, lots of travelling) for the past weeks, so I missed all mini-quests... Do I still get to level up? And now on to graduating (poorly, but still)!
  11. Hmmmm... I feel ashamed... I've got hit by "family is visiting and we're going to the restaurant every single night" so... Haven't ran in 3 weeks, ate very heavy stuff, and drank a lot... All in all, I feel like this challenge was a complete failure :-( I'll retry the next one, and maybe rework on the ACHIEVABLE part of my SMART :-(
  12. Kinda... I feel really bad for skipping all those runs this week actually, but it's still painful when I "bounce"... So I've replace str training and running by some *shudder* yoga and stretching, with serious emphasis on the painful part. Also I had a nice little massage on wednesday (day off work, I couldn't move at all), that helped just enough to start stretching further. I'd expect everything to be fixed by the end of the weekend, else I'll go see a doctor (and we Slitheen don't really like the Doctor...) I think I'll have to revise my goals for this challenge. I'm still on track on the two "diet/lifestyle" ones, as well as the "reading" one, but the fitness goals look unattainable now :-/ Also, by oing nothing, I feel like I'm getting way fat (I know it's in my head, but still), even though it's only been a few days...
  13. Thanks for the cheers, I feel like I'm trying, so it's better than nothing hehe. The real challenge starts now. I must have slept in an akward position on monday, cuz I woke up yesterday with a completely knotted muscle in the shoulder/trap/neck area (somewhere above my scapula I'd say). It prevented me from going to run yesterday, and immobilized me today (working from my couch, BAD). I was supposed to STR train today, I think I'll try to stretch with a few yoga poses, then will go for a massage... Just a minor setback, I won't let it put me down... Good thing is, I think I'll finish my second book today haha.
  14. It went unexpectedly good :-) Actually the whole week's been really okay, apart form missing that first Run on Tuesday :-/ As for the weekend, well I've ended up walking A LOT, since we've got a friend visiting us in China and we spent all sunday walking around temples and stuff. I'm already thinking about the next challenge (while I ought to be focusing on this one), and I think next time will be a "no alcohol" / "keeping track of what I eat" as I realized I'm indulging WAY TOO MUCH in those vices. But hey, I feel great today, and I've actually stuck to my first week of the challenge *self-high-five* :-) Will try to engage more with the forums this week, but it's kinda difficult since I can't really do it while working (I am allowed to, but not really time for it), and once I'm home I don't want to be turning on that laptop again haha... THanks for checking up, it keeps me accountable :-)
  15. MINI QUEST #1 - SMART Is your overall quest achievable (over a short or long period of time)? Is it reasonable? My overall quest is to be able to run a marathon. Ideally it would be achieved in slightly more than a year, but I can take more time if my body requires it. If I put effort into it, it should be reasonable. It will not allow Do your 3 quests all build towards your main quest in little ways, or are you taking on too much? Do your quests have sub-quests or is it just one thing to focus on? The first (running) one might be overly ambitious, especially if I try to follow ALL the Nike+ challenge. So I've given myself some leeway by having more affordable stages. The diet/lifestyle quests are achievable as long as I have enough motivation and willpower. Are your main goals realistic? Can you scale them to smaller steps to fit your life better, even if it will make it take a little longer to achieve them? The only one I could scale down is the running one, but it would just be a lack of willpower and my tendency to laziness Are your goals able to be measured and tracked? What will you use to track them? They can all be measured and tracked. Running: I'm using a combination of Nike+ Sportwatch and Nike+ Running App to track my runs. It's spotty at best on treadmills, but works like a charm outside. All 3 goals + Life Quest: I'm using this spreadsheet, based on the one created by TyrantLizard How are you grading your goals? Are they pass/fail (“every dayâ€, “not even once over the six weeksâ€)? Is there a reward for the effort, or are you only grading yourself on whether or not you “lose the weight†or “run the distanceâ€? It is a "stage" grade, as in "I do not flunk it if I'm slightly below my ultimate goals. There is a reward for effort, as long as I'm invested enough. What is your plan for continuing/altering/grading those goals if you become ill or injured? If I get sick or injured, my two "diet" goals will not change. I'll downgrade my running goal depending on the amount of "fitiness-off" days I get. I will add an additional book for every three days OFF fitness. Did you take into consideration any special occasions (Labour Day, Independence Day, birthdays, anniversaries, etc) that may occur during the challenge? What modifications do you need to build into your goals for those? I didn't, and that shouldn't impede with it. I have faily visiting me (I ive in China, all family and friends are in France so it's a golden opportunity) all the time, so I can't alter my goals anytime someone visits. Do any of your main goals conflict with each other? Will one goal make it hard to do another? On the contrary, they all tend to complement each other. Less drinking will lead to less binge-eating and a better mindset for running the day after. Do you already have the time in your schedule to actually complete the goals you’ve set? If not, what are you planning to do to make time for them? It's complicated. My work schedule is fine and very flexible, but some things can be problematic: - Air quality in Beijing for running, coupled with a gym that opens at 9AM - Friends and family and girlfriend who watn to spend some time with me in the evening It is all linked to the fitness goal, and not the diet ones though. What I plan to do for fixing it is simply eat slightly later at night (or meet friends at the pub later too) to make sure I have time to run Are you trying to build multiple habits, or is all your energy focused on your main quest? I am building multiple habits: better eating, less drinking, and pushing myself to exercise thrice a week. All together, it will lead me to eventually complete a marathon Do I deserve my +1 WIS?
