  1. Your goals sound good too! Its nice to have a site like this where we can have a little fun trying to keep our goals! Thanks! I'm glad to be back! Welcome back to you!
  2. Thanks! Its (as you probably know) frustrating, but also at least going into it again, we do go in with new lessons learned so I guess its not a total start over! I am the same – I am DETERMINED for it to stick this time! I think the first thing in achieving that is not to be so hard on ourselves…I find I fail at maybe one goal I set, then get mad, give up. I think an important goal is learning to recover from our little failures – because we’ll all have them! That’s why when I found the saying “failing means yer playin’†I decided to put that as my title – to remind myself! J We can do it!!!
  3. I've started more times than I care to count. Last time I failed so miserably, that I gave up and stopped logging onto this site all together for about a month. I came upon this phrase "failing means yer playin'". As you probably figured, it means that it's better to be doing badly than to not be taking part at all. OK. This is a valid point. So here I am, playing again. I intend not to fail again, however! Of course I am coming in a week into the 4 week challenge (I hope this is OK). Main Goals: 1 – Walk at break at least 4 days per weekday 2 – Do cardio at least 3 times per week and strength at least three times per week. 3 – Create, get into, and stay in the habit of logging every meal, and by the end of this challenge I will be drinking 2 liters of water a day; I'm not sure that's quite enough, but if I make the goal TOO lofty I'll be setting myself up for defeat again. https://www.nerdfitness.com/character/78539
  4. I got an email notification with your message, then couldn't find your post! I wanted to reply yes I wanted to join the new forums...now I have no idea, and feel like I am starting over...yet again. ><
  5. >< I am going to have to see if I can catch the next challenge - this last one was a disaster for me
  6. Yea, having the gym is so nice, so that you are not dependent on the weather. My gym has zumba plus other classes which is great, but I actually go to another gym for zumba. I was going there before joining this new gym and just like the trainers so much I don't want to leave. Plus my gym has Zumba at 8pm, where the other place has classes starting right after i am done work. Once i am home I don't usually go back out...haha

    Campus Tour

OK here is mine · Is your overall quest achievable (over a short or long period of time)? Is it reasonable? · Yes, my quest is achievable – to lose between 10-15 lbs. I believe it can be done – probably closer to 10, · Do your 3 quests all build towards your main quest in little ways, or are you taking on too much? Do your quests have sub-quests or is it just one thing to focus on? · Yes…the quests (I have it as missions for some reason though) all build towards my main quest – if I successfully achieve all of these, I should be able to lose the weight I want. My quests to not have sub-quests · Are your main goals realistic? Can you scale them to smaller steps to fit your life better, even if it will make it take a little longer to achieve them? · I can scale my main goals down if need be, yes; but they are realistic, I believe. · Are your goals able to be measured and tracked? What will you use to track them? · I can measure my goals - I will use online applications to log my food, workouts and water consumption;. · How are you grading your goals? Are they pass/fail (“every dayâ€, “not even once over the six weeksâ€)? Is there a reward for the effort, or are you only grading yourself on whether or not you “lose the weight†or “run the distanceâ€? · I am grading mine with ABCDF system. i.e. A+ (100%) if I do everything every day, F if I only do half etc. If something comes up that is beyond my control (i.e. rain and I cannot walk at break) then I grade it an “incomplete†or almost like when a pitcher walks a batter · What is your plan for continuing/altering/grading those goals if you become ill or injured? · If I become injured, then I will still do what I can (i.e. logging food and water, etc). Depending on the injury I will modify (i.e. more walks instead of Zumba). Did you take into consideration any special occasions (Labour Day, Independence Day, birthdays, anniversaries, etc) that may occur during the challenge? What modifications do you need to build into your goals for those? I actually hadn’t taken those into account…my birthday and thanksgiving will fall during this challenge. Now that it has come to my attention, I will make modifications for them. I am not going to pretend I won’t make “bad†eating choices on those days, but I am going to make sure that I am hard core on the rest (i.e. drinking water, getting my workouts in). I will have to look at the gym schedule for Thanksgiving to see if they have modified times, as this will change my routine. · Do any of your main goals conflict with each other? Will one goal make it hard to do another? My goals do not conflict – I believe that my goals all work well together. The only issue I might experience is trying to start too many habits at once, but I want to try. · Do you already have the time in your schedule to actually complete the goals you’ve set? If not, what are you planning to do to make time for them? I do already have the time – the Zumba classes are after work, and I worked it out that my gym time will also be after work, although, separately I have decided to try and get to the gym BEFORE work also, which will help even more. I have designed my goals to work, though, even if I fail at the AM gym time. (in which case it will become a goal for my next challenge). The only thing that I really have to make sure, as far as time, is when colleagues ask me to switch shifts (doing so would make me miss my workout, as I’d get done work later), I have to remember that I am as important as they are, and its OK to say no, as I have something scheduled. · Are you trying to build multiple habits, or is all your energy focused on your main quest? I am trying to build multiple habits- or, in some cases, rebuild. I want to – need to – drink more water, and of course a healthy eating lifestyle is important. Then building a workout routine into this is also important.
  8. CotterPin - Thank you - I am doing better now, and ready to get back at the challenge (good distraction) - of course it looks like it wants to rain all day so walking is out...lol. NEXT week i am going to try for the gym before work a few times - i'd really like to get in the habit of gym before, and my zumba classes etc after.
  9. Perryemt78 - That is one of the best motivators - besides of course the number one, which is doing it for you, a close second I think sometimes is to show those who don't believe! Not very supportive friends - don't listen to them; you can do it! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help also!
  10. That is a good thing to remember! I'm so sorry for your loss!
  11. I'm getting off to a slow start - BUT its only day 2 of the challenge! Over the weekend a friend from my old job passed away, so yesterday I was pretty much depressed and in "Sulk Mode". I did take a 15 and a 25 minute walk (breaks at work), and tried not to give in to emotional eating. Didn't do too bad there. I did skip Zumba; as being upset gave me a migraine. Today I'll get some walks in, but no other workout because I am working 11 hour shift today. Tomorrow, its back to zumba!!
  12. I can see where that is a big benefit, being comfortable in the forums. I see that its a big site with lots to offer, and where I am now, I know I am not getting the full benefits of it, since I have no idea what i am doing
  13. SnowOwl - thank you for the information! I think navigational ones are something I really need so that is good!
  14. They really are - it 1-keeps you on track, and 2-maybe gets you to do something a little different...try something new. Sorry for the newbie question, but I am guessing the mini challenges would be listed on the Recruits' page when they come up?
  15. Thanks! I'll definitely check that out! And I love mini challenges - they help keep my kicking my butt plus help me beak out of a "same ol' same ol'" routine sometimes
  16. Hi! Thank you! That sounds good - and I know that the recruits group weren't kicking me out or anything. I do feel pretty clueless about the guilds etc. so I am thinking that maybe I should go back to Recruits guild
  17. Chris-Tien Jenn Thank you, I appreciate it! I feel even newer than my "member since" would imply, too - still figuring everything out, here! Still trying to figure out if I am even in the right guild haha
  18. mr_willes Hi! Ironic you say that, because I actually did start out in the recruits. haha I am pretty sure that when I did my first Challenge I did not post in any guild, not even the recruits...(somehow I had missed that part of the challenge instructions - so totally my fault). For the 2nd one I posted there, and was advised that I might be better off in a different guild. ...Shame there isn't a Nomad one
  19. Thank you! I am very social once I get started, but until then I am rather introverted - but it doesn't take much to get me socializing!
  20. Good luck with your first challenge! You can do it!
  21. My Second 6 Week challenge-I hope its OK but I feel like I should still post here, as I wasn’t in any guild when I tried my first 6 week challenge, and 2-I really still feel like I am starting out! I am going to keep a lot of my missions the same, as I still have a ways to go – I had a few obstacles during the last one, including minor surgery and preparing for my brother’s wedding. Now things should by fairly normal (minus the follow up procedures for my surgery) Main quest: To lose weight and build muscle – I want to try and lose between 10-15 lbs this quest. Last time I had “to lose weight†with no specific goal, so this time I am trying a number. I do realize there is much more to weight loss than the number, so I am going to choose a pair of jeans to judge how they fit (or don’t) now then see how much better they fit at the end. Mini Quest: 1- Main Goals: 1 – Walk at break at least 4 days per weekday 2 – Do cardio at least 3 times per week and strength at least three times per week; including starting back up the Zumba classes I had been taking 3 – Create, get into, and stay in the habit of logging every meal, and by the end of this challenge I will be drinking 100 oz of water a day. Life Quest I want to be happy with my body and my health and the progress I have made along my journeys Why am I here? (motivation) My motivation is that I want to be healthier and confidant. My family has a history of diabetes and I want to get fit and lose weight to try and avoid this myself. I am very much my father’s daughter, down to physical genetics. I just lost him in June, and I know that a lot of what started his health-downfall was his weight , diabetes etc. I also want to feel good in my clothes, and in my own skin; I believe building strength and fitness will help me with my confidence, not only because I will lose the weight that I am so self-conscious about, but because of what I will accomplish and the hard work I know I will have put in. Now that we are just about to November (or into November once the challenge starts), I have the rest of the fall and winter to really get into and KEEP a good routine going, and hopefully by summer I’ll be seeing some major changes. I am not sure what guild I will ultimately end up in. My main goal right now is to lose weight – I have around 100 lbs to lose. However I want to build muscle (lifting) as well. I also just started rock climbing; I am very new at this as there is only one wall I can climb all the way to the top, so far. One of my very favorite work out activities is Zumba - so I am rather varied in my tastes and goals! I hope to be able to find some groups so I can both give and receive motivation and accountability. Can’t wait to begin again!
  22. I'm not new to the site per se, but in a sense I am, in that 1-I am in the process of my first 6-week challenge that I am going to see all the way through - even though I am certainly getting challenges thrown at me. Aren't we all though!? 2-I still have a ton to learn about this site, so I feel like its my first time on it, sometimes when I browse through. I've been struggling with my weight for years - about 15-ish. I am tired of it and this is my last try. Not because I plan to quit when/if this time doesn't work, but because this time will work. I was suffering through a plateau over the summer which I was sure I was going to break through when I left for a week long camping trip with my fiance's family. (I lost 6 lbs on the trip last time I went without even trying, and this time I went armed with my FitBit and determination). Unfortunately, a day into the trip, I was informed that my father had passed suddenly, so we rushed back home, and, instead I gained 30. So now I started this newest 6 week challenge (Sept 16) at the highest weight I have ever been. NOW I have to work my @$$ off just to get back to where I was when I was already unhappy with my weight. THEN work more to get to where I want to be. I look forward to meeting new and motivational people and hoping to give some motivation of my own!
  23. Week 5 Update Still healing from surgery, and also dog sitting on top of that. Giving myself an A for completing my logging, since that is all i can do haha Giving myself an F for drinking, because although I can't eat much, I really have no reason not to drink and have been HORRIBLE with that. Now I am dehydrated. Off the antibiotics and feeling more like I can eat big-girl food (I'd kill for a big salad!!) instead of pudding, jello etc. So back to taking walks etc. Curious to see what my weigh in is this week - did i lose from lack of eating much, or gain from the same?
  24. Week 4 update October 5-October 11 This week was kind of a wash. I broke my tooth the following week. Which wasn't too bad; I just knew to be careful. During week 4 I went to get it looked at, it turned out the tooth was to be pulled (I figured this much) BUT I had a bad infection (which the surgeon thinks is what weakened the tooth) in/around my jaw, which had to be dealt with, then a biopsy had to be taken to see if it is a bone infection or not. Being in severe pain and also under-nourished from not being able to eat much, I wasn't able to do much in my plan.
  25. stealthstitcher Yea, at my office it's a bit tough, because we are a call center, so even if I weren't so self conscious I am pretty sure I'd annoy a bunch of people hahaha!
