  1. I would actually try and up the water intake some. It isn't bad. Of course that's assuming that you mean 8-10 8 oz cups. If you mean 8-10 glasses of water (More like 16 ounces) that's not bad at all. I wont comment on the sodium because my intake is double that but I'm very active with a pretty low BP. I'd consider adding strength training and cutting down the beer a little (assuming it's a daily thing) but I don't think your diet is all that off. Strength training would definitely tip things in your favor.
  2. How's your water intake? I've found my weight gain or loss to follow my water intake rather closely. If I don't get enough, it levels out or goes up.
  3. It also has a tether with a clip to securely carry a key. I don't use fuel. Only up to 8 miles on my long run myself. I alss don't carry hydration because I strategically run by water fountains throughout my run. The belt is really just for keys and my phone for music.
  4. I'm a fan of polyester base layers from Russel Athletic sold at Walmart. 9 bucks for legs and 9 bucks for top. I then wear polyester running pants on top of the Russel leggings and that covers my legs for down as low as I'm willing to run (So far 18F was the coldest day I had to run in last year and I was fine). For my top I do a baselayer from Russel again, long sleeve running shirt, short sleeve running shirt and a hoodie and I'm good to go. I need a lot of upper body coverage as since losing all the weight I get cold as hell and am mildly anemic. I'd say the most important part of keeping warm in the cold is wicking fabrics. Cotton is the devil. it keeps the sweat against your skin, the sweat gets cold and it saps your body heat. Russel Athletic at Walmart is the cheapest stuff you can buy(if money is an issue). and the best bang for the buck. I do wear Sport Hill Voyager pants and a Brooks LSD running jacket though. Not saying they are worth the extra money but I've been rather pleased.
  5. FlipBelt is full of win! Best belt I've bought. Very snug around your hip area and almost adds some compression. Holds a giant smartphone without sliding down your butt. So comfortable you don't know you're wearing it. You could easily hold an iPhone 6+, keys and over half a dozen gels with room to spare. Their customer service is amazing. I got the wrong size and lost my receipt. Called FB and they said send it to us and they would hook me up. They received it in a few days and emailed me a coupon for a free FlipBelt + free shipping from their online store. I can't say enough good about this belt or company!! You'll thank me! PS: I don't get kick backs from them LOL
  6. Thanks!! I got a good feeling about them. Will see how they do tomorrow.
  7. Awesome. Please let me know how it works for you!!
  8. I dunno if I'd use "easier". How about "not as hard" <G> Nothing about ANW seems easy.
  9. My first 10K will be this Saturday. That concludes my 2015 running goals. Next target is the Kentucky Derby mini Marathon in April.
  10. I do a dynamic warmup before every run and a small lower boydwieght routine after every run(In addition to what's below). I run on Monday, wed, Thu, and Sat. Monday: run + bodyweight workout Tuesday Standard Core Routine + Yoga Wednesday: run long Thu: easy short run Fri: Standard Core Routine and Yoga Sat: Run + speed work + Lift Sun: Standard core rotuine and fun stuff. Cycling , discgolf, latying around the house relaxing I mix it up a bit but that's fairly standard (The running is always that way). Havce taken a few weeks off yoga due to surgery then a knee injury . Back to Yoga next week after phyical therapy clears me.
  11. They sucked. No flexibility and forced heal strikes. Ran a quarter mile and returned them. I'm now trying ASICS Gel-Numbus 17s. They are very soft in the sole. The overhang is there but less and the edge of the sole compresses extremely easily. I ran a quick 3 miles today in them and they were fairly comfortable. I didn't feel that ridge. I'll try 6 on Wednesday but the long run will have to wait until next week. I've got my first 10K Saturday and don't want to dial up my mileage this week.
  12. I'm having withdrawls already. Gonna be a long year <G>
  13. Went back to Swag Sports after work today and they had my 12.5s in and they were too tight. I was going to buy the 13s but the manager was a bit concerned that the reason i fit widthwise is the shoe is a bit long on me., Thinks I may do some sliding and be suceptible to toe blisters. He did some research and was on the phone for a bit. Came back and told me his other store has 4 pair of shoes he thinks might have potential. 2 are neutral but 2 are slightly stability shoes. Hopefully the neutral will fit. I'm just not sure how healthy it is for a neutral pronator to wear shoes desgined for overpronation. Either way, SWAG Sports has earned my business. Of the 4 different local running stores I have visited, NONE tried with such a vengeance to get me properly fit in a shoe like these guys did. They had me try over a dozen pair. These guys and gals are really dedicated to the sport before the sale and I'm impressed. As a test I ran my recovery run today in my Brooks Glycerin 12s( I wore those and the triumphs before I went low drop). They have an 11mm drop. My cadence was still 177. I think I'll be just fine if I cant find low droppers for my long run. Now I'm jsut scared I can find any running shoe that has a proper fit.
  14. No worries. They were perfect for me until I started running long (although 7-8 miles is probably not long for many of you). I don't mind the investment. I just wish I could find a pair of low or no drop shoes that would fit me. You can (and I did) lose a 120 pounds and over 10 inches off your waist but your damn feet will still remain huge like swim fins
  15. The Triumphs were better. less immediate pain but the foot is pretty sore today after 8. I'm now pretty convinced I gotta get these and try them. My 13.1 goal doesn't seem doable without other footwear.
  16. I think that sounds like an amiable solution. I'd say go for it!!
  17. If I were an overpronator I'd have no problem finding shoes. I'm a neutral pronator and was told today I'm in the minority. The lion's share of shoes are stability shoes according to Swag Sports. I went and tried those shoes on today and they were actually a bit too large for me in 13s(Little long in the toe box). They are bringing over some 12.5s from their other store and I'll try them Friday. Gonna try my long run tomorrow in the triumph ISOs. While I do overhang the last, the one piece upper blends to the sock liner virtually seemlessly. I think I may be ok. Still feeling I want a shoe that properly fits so I guess I'll move forward with the Cumulus if it feels good.
  18. It's a very good idea but I do have a concern. Inserts don't follow the toe box shape of Altras. Not sure if it's a problem. I'm torn. Thinking about pulling the trigger on these. They are ASICS Cumulus 16s and the last pair. He wants to give them to me on a deep discount. I tried a run in my old Saucony Triumph ISOs and still maintained my cadence. They are 8mm. These ASICS are 10.9
  19. BAH. THey are a lot thicker than the sock liners. Made the shoes too tight
  20. I actually havent. Suppose I could try. I've made it a point to go away from them. I have several pair of Superfeet and Powerstep inserts around. I learned to run without them to strengthen my feet.
  21. Yah I tend to agree. I think if I've already trained my cadence it should be ok. Just wanted more opinions before I drop the cash.
  22. Nope A mile in the VFFs kill the bottoms of my feet for days(alhough I still do it to build the muscles). Still shaking off neuropahty from the diabetes(it's gone).
  23. Red and green pepeprs, onions, muchrooms and chunks of chicken on a roasting pan misted with olive oil, pink himilayan sea salt and fresh ground pepper roasted and then broiled until it all browns up. I eat this several times a week. if it were a running/workout day I'd have added sweet potato chunks.
