  1. So we took every dime we got from wedding gifts and chunked it all on debt. All we have left is 6200 on a car and 69k on the Condo. Things were looking good, and then it happened...... Her family's business is closing. She's out of a job. Lost her company phone, company car, company paying for her insurance and she's lost the ability to contribute to our monthly bills. At first, I went into a deep depression but as I look at the numbers, WE CAN AFFORD THIS!!! We made a smart decision with our money and put ourselves in a financial position where we are able to handle this temporary setback. I'd love to pay off the rest of the debt and put lots of money away but for the first time in my entire life, disaster has struck and after my knee-jerk reaction, I realized I'm/we're prepared!! We WILL survive this. We will get her a car and we will NOT go further into debt. NOPE. Never again!
  2. Um, this is a real challenge. I wont touch the credit cards, but the ice cream is in trouble!!
  3. Ok so the wife was good on her promise and we spent our wedding gift money on debt. As soon as all the checks clear, we will be closer to debt free. Just a 6k car loan and a mortgage is all we have left. HELL YEAH!!
  4. Check out Everydollar. It's a free budgeting tool. I live by it. Tell your money what to do or wonder where it went!!!!
  5. Done deal. Married. Age 50 and starting my next chapter
  6. I swear by FlipBelt for running. May be a solution for you. I'm assuming you're trying to hold a phone.
  7. Ours is from Dicks and we have been 100% satisfied with it since we got it in October... https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/fitness-gear-pro-half-rack-16fgeufgprhlfrckxgmu/16fgeufgprhlfrckxgmu?
  8. Ayep. She's 35. No cheaters yet(I'm at 2.0x) I had a rule I broke for her. I always said for me to date a woman, she has to be old enough to remember that the VHF dial has to be put on U before you can adjust the UHF Dial. Karri has no clue what that means but she pursued me so it's her fault
  9. So I'm getting married in 11 days. I just find it entertaining that my wife wont be welcome here. I'm robbing the cradle <G> I'm 50. I thought I was going to die alone. I was fat, unhealthy, and miserable. I blinked and I'm not fat anymore. I'm in love, not lonely and I'm getting married???? All of this because of NF. Am I nervous? Oh hell yeah!
  10. 2 weeks is just fine. Due to injuries making her miss a run, we did our 22 mile culminating run the Saturday before our marathon. The weeks before a marathon spent "Tapering" are actually meant to give you maximum performance for a PR. Running your culminating run 2 weeks before your actual race wont hurt you at all unless you're going for the podium. Else, the difference in your performance will be negligible if that. Do your run 2 weeks out and enjoy your marathon. It's a wonderful experience.
  11. I agree. Fortunately for me, I've ALWAYS been a cash guy. I haven't really embraced the paying by card on everything (Even though i got into debt LOL) so I already "feel money" and because i know it's coming form a bank account my brain still acts accordingly.
  12. I like this approach. My Fiance wasn't into the envelopes of money in the house. All my sinking funds are in their own checking account that has a whole bunch of little check registers (one for each category) on a spreadsheet that all total = the account balance. I use a card I even call my envelope debit card.
  13. As a Ramsey fan I use their Everydollar budgeting tool.. It's free zero based budgeting.
  14. So fitness led me to go from a dying man to a healthy man who will live for many years. From all the changes I've got pretty much a new life. I'm happy, fit, and getting married in 25 days. That brought me to my next discovery. I am financially fat. Obese if you will. I've spent and spent and spent thinking that new things cure depression but they really only cure you of having money. This year I decided it was time to get financially fit as well and started on a journey to give my new wife and I a great future. Suck it up, get on a budget, start my debt snowball and get this shit cleaned up. Along the way I have become a huge follower of Dave Ramsey's teachings. I'm on a budget, working baby step 2 and making wonderful progress, letting my momentum carry me just as I did once I saw changes on the scale and body measurements. Who else is working the baby steps? Need support? Everydollar help? People to cheer you on? Need to pass on your experiences fighting through BS2? Lets talk about $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  15. To be honest, the academy has changed. Steve and Staci used to do fairly regular Q&A webinars that really added a lot of extra value and camaraderie to the academy. Hasn't been a webinar in quite a long time. Also don't think we get many of the Academy Emails anymore. After year one they stop emailing you to check in with you and see how you're doing(used to email you every quarter to check on your progress and address any questions.). This was really cool and made you feel a real boost of spirit when someone checked up on you. They either stopped or decided after a year, you're on your own. They also removed the academy forums several years ago with a claim that they would eventually add private Academy forums to the main rebellion forums but at 2 years passed when we were told to expect It I'd say that went bye bye. They went with the free Facebook option which works well but 2 days after a message is posted you will never find it again(because Facebook is not designed to replace forums for static information more so than sharing pics of cats) so the academy has also lost that value of forums and historic threaded info that you get here for free(Easier access to info to be found here from your fellow nerds, for free, than in the academy). It seems like the new questing system as well as the personal coaching product are their new focus. Now on a positive note, the content provided in the academy is solid. You learn a lot and if you follow and do what it teaches, you WILL lose weight(or gain if preferred), gain strength, gain health, and gain peace. It was worth $99 when I joined just for the content alone. is it worth the new 150 dollar price tag? I'd say if you use the fitness and nutrition modules, as well as all the great videos on the exercises, it's probably still worth the money. I can't put a price tag on the 100+ pounds I lost. Bottom line from a customer/business standpoint. The academy does not seem as important to NF since they brought out the Coaching program which is where their focus seems to be, but the academy still works, does what it claims and if you dedicate yourself to following it religiously, you WILL reach your goals for a minimal financial investment. PS: Biggest missed item from Nerdfitness was the recipe emails. We still make some of those and are always waiting and hoping on new ones. GREAT, easy to make, tasty Paleo friendly recipes are win!
  16. We got this half rack in October and it's been flawless. We also got the same brand 300lb Olympic plate/bar set.... https://www.dickssportinggoods.com/p/fitness-gear-pro-half-rack-16fgeufgprhlfrckxgmu/16fgeufgprhlfrckxgmu
  17. Isolating muscles isn't necessarily a good thing. The Nerdfitness philosophy is based on compound exercises which is the way your body is used int eh real world. As for doing it alone, our power rack has safety catch, drop bars. I can drop the bar and not get hurt at all
  18. Maybe make the thread title larger and bolder text too so we don't have to strain to see it?
  19. If you're in fairly decent shape(and it sounds like you are), I don't see a reason why you can't do that. You're still giving yourself a rest day between each run. I'd say go for it and kick some ass. Getting to 5k is really more mental training than physical. You'll be fine
  20. I have a couple items here that I think could be part of it...... First off, dieting is a bad bad word. Don't go on a diet. Change your diet. Going on a diet means I am going to eat a special way specifically for a special weight loss result and as a temporary measure. Changing your diet means a permanent change in what you eat. The way I eat is the way I eat. I am Paleo and will continue to be Paleo. I'm not on a diet. Paleo is my diet. I know it's just how we mince words but diet is a mindset as much as a choice of what to eat. There is no, I can't have ice cream on this diet. It's simply, sorry, I don't eat ice cream (in actuality, I do, but rarely and as a conscious decision to veer from my own rules for that one instance). Don't think of this as temporary but a lifestyle change to one of healthy strong people which you are. You just have to uncover it Exercise is great but diet is 90% of it all. That's where weight loss comes from. Exercise is how we get strong and healthy bodies. It sounds to me like you are still getting too much grain/sugars to lose a lot of weight. I recommend Paleo. I eat like a king yet still the weight drops right off...... Last nights dinner: Rotisserie chicken and broccoli Lunch today: Asian chicken and crushed pineapple Dinner tonight will be Rutabaga Chicken and Mushroom mash. (all fully paleo and I've got a list of tasty things like this we eat all the time) I eat good! You can to. Adjust the diet to adjust the weight.
  21. I totally get being on a strict budget. I zero dollar budget and debt snowball myself. That being said, I have found that you gotta do it right on headphones or you will do it again. I have worn Plantronics Backbeat Fit headphones for 3 full seasons of running and I have zero complaints whatsoever. They hang over the ears but fit quite loosely inside the ear canal making them "open air headphones". You will not get the most amazing fidelity because of this but the lack of full seal on the ears makes it so you can hear your music, hear cars coming up behind you, and carry on a conversation with a running partner if you don't crank them up too loud. Waterproof and enough battery to go a full marathon at a 70 year old's pace(Not a 70 year old. Just run like one, HAHA) The problem is they are 60 bucks which I understand is outside of your budget. In my opinion, you'd be better to suck it up a little longer, drop your 50 bucks in a sinking fund. Maybe it will take another month but you'll end up with some kick-ass Bluetooth running headphones. https://www.amazon.com/Plantronics-BackBeat-Wireless-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00P89AVRU/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1522410968&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=plantronics+backbeat+fit&psc=1
  22. http://www.imgur.com It was free last time I used it. Can't check it from work at the moment.
  23. I've been staring at this for 5 minutes trying to find the words to boost your spirits but nothing is coming to me. The problem is there's nothing wrong to cheer you up about. You look just fine, and perfectly normal. I'd love to see you move forward with strength training but focus on overall strength in your entire body as opposed to focusing on specific areas that don't need attention. Eat right and pick up heavy things!(And all of that info can be found here) Get stronger. Feel good about yourself and the world will pick up on that and share your feelings. You made the biggest change when you posted this last night. Welcome to Nerdfittness. Come join us in becoming better us!!
  24. That looks a lot like a Hydroflask which is what I use. keeps water cold forever. My Fiance has the 64 oz one and they make many straps or carry case/bags for it. Definitely an option but not cheap.
  25. Best way to run LEDs off a 9v battery is to get 3v LEDs with a resister designed to run on 9v. Amazon or Ebay has them. Just look for 9v LEDs. They just come with an inline resistor already attached.
