  1. My problem as well. Extremely wide feet(11 6E). As much as I want, there are no low/no drop shoes that fit me. As it is, I have to wear 13s to size up my width. I'm pretty much pigeon-holed into New Balance running shoes that aren't no or low drop
  2. If the question were for a running shoe. Zero drop and wide toe box = Any shoe by Altra. if it's for lifting, you'd be much better with just a pair of Chuck Taylors.
  3. I was in an endless cycle of injury myself. Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (Runners knee), IT Band syndrome. Fun stuff. What broke the cycle is when I found Strengthrunning.com. I paid 50 bucks for his basic injury prevention course and have not been injured since (Well, not injured FROM running at least). He has some free resources too but I was glad I spent the money for his ebooks. Before I give you the link I want to say that I don't get a dime if you purchase this program. This guy is totally legit, a friend of Steve K's and was the Camp NF running coach 2 years ago (Just so ya don't think I'm pitching SPAM BS). He's my running hero. Jason rules!! http://strengthrunning.com/injury-prevention-program
  4. When i was a teenager, the only way I'd run a 6 minute mile was chasing down an ice cream truck.
  5. I want to setup for barbells but my spare room is just too small for an 8' olympic barbell. I'm thinking I need a 5 foot bar. That makes squat racks/cages too wide for my bars grip-able area which is about 37". I'm thinking about getting squat stands like these... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01855EGXI/ref=s9u_simh_gw_i3?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pd_rd_i=B01855EGXI&pd_rd_r=EC9780N58S35P65VDC30&pd_rd_w=Qiq6y&pd_rd_wg=8T5Es&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=&pf_rd_r=N1QWR3XETXJA8YY979S1&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=1cf9d009-399c-49e1-901a-7b8786e59436&pf_rd_i=desktop Do you have them? If so, can you try and separate the verticals by 34 or 35 inches and try and stand like you are going to squat. Do you have room without the feet of the racks getting in you way? What about putting a bench in between? Any input is appreciated.
  6. I'm sure glad you're safe and applaud you for your assistance to others in their time of need. I think I also can see where you're coming from with your points. I would however like to comment on the below statement. I can respect and appreciate your view but I think you might consider appending a "to me" at the end. Your points are valid but not for us all.... I was amazingly obese (Well over 300). High blood pressure, terrible diabetes, and high cholesterol. I was on a path to die very soon. Add to it clinical depression, terrible terrible diet, general anxiety disorder and social anxiety, and you have a recipe for my end. I found the Nerdfitness Academy and got motivated. Made some virtual friends, lost over 100 pounds, got rid of diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I became a lifter and runner, a;ll from the diet and exercise teachings found within. I met my fiance at a running group. I'm now healthy, very much alive still and filled with joy. I'm in love, engaged, social, athletic and able to do things I've never been able to. All because of Nerdfitness. I feel they saved my life. It may not work for you but for some of us, it's been truly amazing. We are all different people with different needs and desires and no one solution is right for anyone however, just because it isn't right for you, doesn't mean that it's not for others as well. I hope you regain access in and out of your neighborhood soon and have the opportnoity to begin recovering from this terrible tragedy. I'm sorry you must go through it
  7. You are not a slow runner(nor am I). That's a glass is half empty approach. We are not slow runners. We just aren't fast ones <G>
  8. Thanks Darren. I'm just a pretty skeptical dude when it comes to the web, strangers, and links LOL. I would however recommend you might do well with an introduction post to say hi and let us know who you are I have little to say on your subject other than, for myself, I don't believe in natural talent, at least not within myself. Running has been a struggle of pure mediocrity. I'd guess most of us runners lack natural talent. We rarely medal in races. Most of us are simply competing against ourselves trying to be a tiny bit better than yesterday. I'm not sure how geographical location impacts overall and final performance but it sure has an impact on training. For example, I cannot run a greater than a10 mile run from my home. I don't have the area of sidewalks or safe to run in roadways to allow me to do this. I now have to drive somewhere for my very long runs. This adds car functionality, gasoline, budgetary constraints and traffic impacts to my training. People in Kenya have a general lack of paved roadways. Most of them spend their entire career training on dirt roads. This is lower impact than the pavement and concrete we mostly run on in the US. The general lack of running on these harder surfaces every day is thought to be a factor in the Kenyans performance. They have fresher, healthier legs. In the end, I'm not sure how much of a role these things have vs natural talent but I do feel their impact on a training program can hamper training. That was a lot of blabber randomly about related running stuff. Hope there is something of value there. Mike / Dil
  9. I gotta be honest, my spidey sense is tingling bad. This is your first post and it contains a link. The domain name is your username. Sure looks to me like your advertising your website and not an actually NF member. Where is your introduction post? What guild are you in? Where in your fitness journey are you? Surely a legit rebel would have that information and perhaps share it to gain our trust before trying to get us to click a link, no? Sorry If I'm being unfairly challenging but no way I will click your link.
  10. For me, once I hit 14 miles I start getting pretty whooped on long runs. I'd probably give myself the most time after that one.
  11. Thank you very much. It's been a long journey and I have to start again, one more time LOL. Mono has had me totally out of all fitness for over a month now. Doctor told me I have to begin running extremely small distances (a mile or two) for a bit(Which sucks after my first marathon in April LOL). Lifting is going to be awhile. I've been playing diet ninja for a month now. Totally maintained weight. Probably lost definition and endurance. Life's a bitch. See the doctor Monday to see if I can return to physical stuffs
  12. I put in 'cargo pants 32 36' on Amazon and came up with a bunch. Here's a couple links. If you aren't in the US, at least you'll have a brand to search? https://www.amazon.com/Carhartt-Mens-Rugged-Cargo-Relaxed/dp/B00AUEL6X6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501180058&sr=8-2&keywords=cargo%2Bpants%2B32%2B36&th=1&psc=1 https://www.amazon.com/RIGGS-WORKWEAR-Wrangler-Ranger-32x36/dp/B000A2KCA6/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1501180058&sr=8-4&keywords=cargo%2Bpants%2B32%2B36&th=1&psc=1
  13. Jason Fitzgerald from Stengthrunning says the best way to get faster is to run more. When I trained for marathons last season I smoked a 5k at paces I never knew possible. I also PRd a half marathon significantly. That being said, to get faster in running you also need to focus on running specific speed training on at least one run a week(remember that outside of specific speed training sessions, all other runs should be at a conversational pace). Strength training really has little to directly do with speed. Strength training is a support thing. Strong legs and body = healthy runner. As for the whens. I like run then immediately lift before my body realizes how pooped it is
  14. I have lots. At least 5 sets of running clothes and close to that in gym clothes and 3-4 cycling kits. I believe in removing obstacles that can allow me to skip workouts. I have a crapton of clothing so I can never say I have nothing clean to wear (as long as I do laundry weekly).
  15. Basically a virus that makes you sick for a week or two, followed by weeks if not months of extreme fatigue and tiredness. Your spleen becomes inflamed and is at risk of rupturing (A medical emergency), You can't do anything physical for a good 3-4 weeks until that is resolved and then pushing back into fitness too hard can bring the whole thing back. It can take months to fully recover. In a nutshell, I'm essentially screwed. Have to give up running, lifting and biking for awhile and replacing with sleeping and extreme diet control followed by a slow recovery and basically a reboot of habits. All I do now is work and sleep. When I'm at work (like now), all I can think about is sleeping. My body is heavy, eyes are heavy, non stop yawning. SUCKS! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infectious_mononucleosis
  16. So I have Mono. Dr has told me no physical activity at all for at least the next 3 weeks after which time we will re-evaluate it. He told me I best just drop out of fall training and the fall race series as trying to catch up will be some rough running and is likely too be way too much way too soon. No lifting. Maybe some biking next month. I'm also told to expect large losses in my running endurance/performance. I am maintaining a rock solid diet and my weight has maintained or dropped a couple pounds. Anyone else had to recover from mono with their fitness?? Any words of wisdom? Expectations?
  17. Both pair look lovely but as a matter of personal preference, I like the ones on the right even more.
  18. I don't think sport washes are made to work on cotton. They are specifically designed fort removal of stink and sweat from technical fabrics (Polyester). Tried the SweatX and it pretty much seems like the same stuff as the Nathan. I think you're good to go with it.
  19. Nathan Sport Wash is sold at most running stores. Dicks sporting goods just changed from the Nathan to a brand called "Sweat X". Just opened the first bottle. Vote isn't in yet.
  20. I just got used to carrying water. Flip Belt Bottle for shorter distances and Camelbak Marathoner for the longer. I'd rather count on myself for hydration than local government. My group had a bad training run this last season because Louisville had the water turned off at Waterfront Park(My partner and I were unaffected due to having our own).
  21. Spelling is either way. The 'U' is the French spelling I believe. I am curious what kind of bike? Road? Mountain? Hybrid? I suck at tuning them up but Sheldon Brown was a biking guru. Perhaps this will help? https://www.sheldonbrown.com/derailer-adjustment.html
  22. First off, you are not a slow runner. You simply aren't a fast runner. Quit beating yourself up. Remember that running is VERY mental. As for speed, I'd take a look at http://www.strengthrunning.com. Jason is a running guru and has trained many athletes for Boston. He comes highly recommended by Steve K and for good reason. FYI he has tons of info in his blogs and you can get most of what you need without spending a dime but his programs are also pretty awesome.
  23. Well, they do have a bit of their own dialect. Coming from Western New York, it was a bit of a culture shock, that's for sure
