  1. Hi y'all! Alright, I want to increase my strength in that I can do 50 pushups easy by May. I need a little advice on how to get there. Here is a brief little bit about my background. Now, about 4 years ago, I was doing taekwondo with a little crossfit training. I was one step away from becoming a black belt. Then I had to quit because I couldn't afford it and it was my final year in college. Also, since I took longer than 4 years to complete my degree, I had to take a student loan for my last year and a semester. And let's just say Georgia Tech ain't cheap. I did graduate though in 2013! Now I am working as a pharmacy technician in a retail pharmacy, part of the supermarket chain known as Publix. I've been working since June last year. I work between 15-25 hours, depending on the week. I am taking one college course in psychology at the undergrad level to see if I want to do psych as my graduate study. My paycheck goes towards my loans and my credit cards. I live with my family at the moment. Since I quit taekwondo (I went to ATA), I stopped exercising all together. I've lost all that strength and stamina that I built up. I use to be able to do 30 pushups easy. Now I can barley do 3. At the moment, I can't afford to go back to ATA. Us tech are on our feet all day, there are no chairs in the pharmacy. So after my shift, all I wanna do is sit down and do nothing. I work weird hours as well. I work either morning to afternoon, afternoon or evening or 10-8. My biggest challenge is my excuse to not exercise. I think to myself, I don't remember how to warm up or how to stretch or cool down so I shouldn't exercise because I'll be sore or hurt something. While I registered myself awhile ago, I never used the resources here. I don't want to be a burden but I need help. I want to become strong enough to do pushups and such but I don't know where to start. Any advice would be appreciated!
  2. What if people were just like Pokemon? Hear me out Here is a crash course of Pokemon Pokemon aka Pocket Monsters, are creatures that live in the Pokemon universe that can battle, train, breed and so forth. Each Pokemon has 6 stats. They are health points or HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed. -HP is the stamina that the Pokemon has. Each time it takes a hit, it's HP goes down. Once the HP goes to zero, the Pokemon faints and therefore can no longer battle. That is the main goal of Pokemon battles, to make your opponents Pokemon faint. To raise a Pokemon's HP, you can give it potions, berries, and drinks. -Attack(aka physical attacks) means how strong a Pokemon is. The higher the stat, the stronger the attack. This stat is for physical moves, such as punches and kicks that make directed contact with the opposing Pokemon. -Defense is the stat which defends against physical attacks. The higher the stat, the harder the Pokemon is to take down by physical moves. -Special Attack stat is similar to the Attack stat but instead of attacks that make direct contact, these moves do not involve hand to hand combat. Moves like using fire or water or electricity to attack the opponent are examples of Special Attacks. The higher the stat, the stronger these moves are -Special Defense is defense against Special Attacks only. The higher the stat, the harder the Pokemon is to take down with Special moves. -Speed is how fast a Pokemon moves. The higher the stat, the faster Pokemon is. Each Pokemon is born with certain values in each stat. This is known as the individual values or IV. This value is unique to each Pokemon and doesn't change through out the Pokemon's life time. For example, the Pokemon Pikachu has a high IV in speed and it continues to have lots of speed throughout it's life time. Each Pokemon is better at something than the others. For example, the rock Pokemon Geodude has higher IV in defense than Pikachu, since it is, well, solid like a rock. However, Pikachu is faster than Geodude by a long shot, it has four legs after all! Now there is something called effort values, or EV. EV are values obtained by training your Pokemon a certain way. These values can be added onto the IV stats. Let's take Pikachu for example. Say you would like Pikachu to have a higher defense than it was born with. Pikachu is not stuck to have lower defense! It can be trained to gain more points towards defense with defensive training or vitamins that increase it's defense. Therefore you can have a Pikachu with high speed IV (what it was born with) and high defense EV (what you trained it to be). Now to apply this to humans. Each person is born with certain stats in my opinion (IV). Some are naturally faster than others. This is something you cannot change. However, you can train yourself to become faster (EV). Here is what I interpret each stat of Pokemon to be for people: HP: Stamina. This is your health. Eating well, keeping fit, and taking good care of your body should raise this stat. Vitamins help as well! Attack: Strength. This is gained by doing physical activities and exercise. Defense: Self-Defense. Also defense against disease. Boosting immune system Special Attack: Mental strength Learning new things! Morals, forming beliefs, keeping positive Special Def: Protecting ones mind. Sticking to your beliefs when things get rough, getting out of bad situations Speed: Running. Doing tasks. This is my interpretation of the stats and is no means an exhaustive list or one not open to change. Make it what it means to you. The point that I am trying to make is people are like Pokemon that they can train themselves in these stats. Even though you are born with certain IVs, its the EVs that count. Be the best, the very best, like no one ever was!
  3. Challenge accepted. I just don't know what to make lol
  4. Wow, that majora's mask is so colorful! I think it counts as a craft. Craft is an art and art is a craft
  5. I love ya'll's crafts! I've never seen something like those D&D tiles and up cycling before. I use to crochet before I lost my muse. Here are some of my favorite projects: Seeing all of ya'lls crafts, it kinda make me want to take up crocheting again!
  6. Hi ya'll! I was just wondering, are any of ya'll going to Dragoncon? I've lived near the Atlanta area all my life and I have only been once, and it was cause I was lost and looking for directions. I really want to go and knock it off my bucket-list . I'm probably not going to cosplay because it's so soon and I am, well, not very crafty. I have trouble with straight line
  7. Hi ya'll! I work in a Publix pharmacy as a tech. For techs, we don't have chairs so we stand on our feet all day. I am 5'0 and the selves are much taller than I am. Often I am on my tip toes to reach meds up high or getting the step ladder. I often kneel to get meds on the lower selves and also kneel to put away meds to need to be picked up and search through them for patients. At the end of the day, my knees, feet, and ankles hurt. Often I get short breaks when all scripts are filled and there is no one at the register atm. Is there something I can do during this downtime to increase my flexibility or at least make me feel less sore? I have started walking 5 minutes before my shift and it make me feel more awake. Not sure if this info will help. My main overall goal is to get stamina and flexibility. Once I am at a good level, I want to work on speed. Thanks ya'll!
  8. I don't know if I'll make it, But watch how good I'll fake it -Tonight, tonight Hot Chelle Rae
  9. Hi ya'll! I'm nadmikha but I go by nad as well. I'm 23 and just started my new job as a pharmacy technician as couple of weeks ago. I came here to find out how to stabilize my moods. You see, I'm bipolar. Currently I am in a depressed mood. I read up that exercise can make you more stable so I want to find something that can bring me more to the borderline when I am manic or depressive. I use to do taekwondo and was one rank below black belt. I had to quit two-three years ago because it was interfering with my school work in college and I couldn't afford it anymore. Besides feeling better, my goal is to have greater endurance. I am about 120 something and I am 5' 0''. Since I have been out of college, for 1 year to date, I haven't been exercising at all. So my endurance has changed a lot. I do a lot of stretching and kneeling in my work to reach the selves for the drugs and I am on my feet for the whole shift. I just don't want to be sore as the hare was when the tortoise won. Not my best southernism ever lol I'm not much into gyms, I am not good with large crowds of strangers. I'm friendly, just not social, if that makes any sense. I'm not sure if I am in the right place and I am never good at this forum stuff but I'll give it a shot Oh dear, I rambled on. I hope ya'll have a good one!
