  1. This past week was a killer. I flew out Thursday to NYC for NY Comic Con... And that pretty much killed my quests this week. I got one run in, did no cooking and fell off the food logging wagon. On the plus side, the reason I got no runs in is because I was so tired and footsore each day, I was dead to the world. I averaged close to 9 miles of walking each day (topping out at 11), so I'm not going to make the run portion a complete wash for the week, but man... I need to get back on the horse today. Good thing there's a gym at work. Sent from my Moto X
  2. Saw this from The Oatmeal this morning. All I can say is... Baaaaa! Sent from my Moto X
  3. Had a great run and workout this morning. Then found this on Facebook from The Oatmeal. Sent from my Moto X
  4. I guess it depends on how you define 'good idea'. I would want to try it at least once. I've run through some nasty cold, slushy, icey, snowy weather, my feet do enough work that they never seemed to get cold.I may also be a little bit deranged. Sent from my Moto X
  5. GABF is always amazing. Only potentially surpassed by the Mazer Cup, three days of judging the best commercial and home brewed mead from around the world. This year it was capped, on my birthday, by the release of the new Muppet movie. What a way to celebrate getting older, drunk on honey wine at a kids' movie :-) Sent from my Moto X
  6. Well, that's just the first half, it's an out and back so the second half is Sisyphian.Sent from my Moto X
  7. Quests: ----- Quest 1: Short runs of 20-30 minutes at least 3 days a week. Long runs weekly, starting at 5 miles, increasing 10%/week with every fourth week a shorter run. Measurement: A = 5+ runs/wk; B = 4-5 runs/wk, C = 3-4 runs/wk Reward: A = +3 STA, +2 CON, +1 STR; B = +2 STA, +1 CON, C = +1 CON, +1 STA ----- I'm on pace for a B, but can probably pull off an A average with some concerted effort. For now, +1 STA, +1 CON ----- Quest 2: Cook Dinner at least once a week. Ordering pizza doesn't count. Measurement: A = 2+x a week; B = 1-2x a week; C = <1x a week Reward: A = +3 CHA, +2 CON; B = +2 CHA, +1 CON; C = +1 CHA ----- My weak spot. I'm in C territory. +1 CHA ----- Quest 3: Keep a food journal of everything eaten over 6 weeks. Measurement: A = Log every day (42); B = Log 90% of days (36); C = 80% (30) Reward: A = +5 WIS; B = +4 WIS; C = +3 WIS ----- Execution has left something to be desired, but I'm getting it done. +3 WIS ----- Life Quest: Start flossing daily instead of average of every other day. ----- Doing well here, building better habits! +1 CHA -+-+-+-+-+-+-+- Can I make a request as well? Please folks, don't use fluorescent green text! It is unreadable and horrible. [emoji20] Sent from my Moto X
  8. I'm aware of the 'requirements' I just think they're BS. If Boston's course profile was such an advantage, we'd see WR times there all the time, but we don't because the course profile's elevation change is murder on the legs. Meanwhile the Berlin marathon is a nice easy course that sets records almost every year. Yet somehow Boston is an 'unfair' marathon course while Berlin is fair. Ultimately I think it really comes down to politics.Sent from my Moto X
  9. So the Boulder Marathon, which had been scheduled for yesterday, was canceled two weeks ago because the race director is a shady character who didn't get his permits in place in time. I'm pretty sure this is the death knell of that race. Still, a small crowd showed up yesterday to run the course anyway, because marathoning isn't about swag or finish lines or cruddy race directors... It's about the run. Sent from my Moto X

  11. What a week... This week was GABF, the Great American Beer Festival, in Denver Colorado. I volunteered for five hours on each of Thursday and Friday nights and attended the members-only session on Saturday. All things considered, I think I did pretty well on my goals though. Running - Three target runs, plus a five mile walk and a six mile walk. Considering the one run I missed was a 20 minute recovery jog, I think a substitution is okay in this case, so I'll call this week a success. Food logging - I tracked all my food, but I got behind in the log and had to go back to fill it in. I'm 99% confident I got everything, but I need to not get behind again. Cook for the wife - I did it! One and a half meals. The half was a meal I did all the prep for, then she put it in and took it out of the oven. I wasn't going to give myself any credit, but she was pretty thrilled, so half it is. Flossing - missed one day, too drunk after GABF and just crashed when I got home. Sent from my Moto X
  12. I finally made dinner for the wife and I last night. FINALLY! Sent from my Moto X
  13. Bodyweight exercises are a great option. Try googling "You are Your Own Gym". Sent from my Moto X
