  1. Day 3 I had a pretty good day today in terms of my goals for this challenge. I did spend most of the day asleep, which was suboptimal in terms of being productive, but while I was awake I did a walk with my son (picture below) and brushed my teeth twice. I also played a little bit of Final Fantasy 14 - another thing I spend too much time on! I think it will become easier to take walks outside as the warmer weather comes along. I'm also thinking of maybe going back to swimming, but I'll see how we go - as I said in my previous post, I hate being cold and it's always chilly when you get out of the pool. I'm also thinking of getting my hair cut short, which would help with swimming because my hair would dry quicker. Anyways, that's my stream of consciousness for Day 3.
  2. I think part of the problem is I hate being cold at all, and there's been quite a slow start to spring this year. I should try walking inside when I don't want to go outside, I can make a reasonable circuit through my loungeroom and kitchen. I could listen to a podcast while I did it. And there would be no hills!
  3. DAY 2 Not doing so good on the steps front. For some reason I just can't seem to get the momentum to get up out the door. That and I'm still only brushing my teeth once per day, but now it's changed from nighttime to lunchtime. I want to say my day was just too full to go for a walk, but looking back on my day I could have gone on my lunchbreak, or I could have gone after work before I went out to visit friends. Or I suppose I could have gone out really late after I got back from my trip to my friends' house. Day 3 is going to be a public holiday in Australia to mark the passing of the Queen, so I'm going to make sure I go for a long walk with my son and that I brush my teeth twice. I'll try and do enough walking so that I'm caught up for the first few days. I'm also going to try and catch up on some work I'm behind on. I've started watching Love Between Fairy and Devil on Netflix and it's really fun. It's a Chinese romantic drama that pretty much does what it says on the tin. Actually, that's probably time I could have been walking, so maybe I shouldn't be watching it!
  4. I had a really great day at the gym today! I got a comeback rep PR of 45 kilos for 2 on my squat and 36 kilos for 2 on my bench. I say a 'comeback PR' because when I was lifting a couple of years ago my numbers were better than that, but I just have to be gentle with myself and work on building back up. It's been really hard for me to squat to depth, and it's taken a lot of time just to get my hip mobility good enough that I can get down low enough. Now I'm having shoulder problems (the shoulder won't move the way it's supposed to), but it didn't stop me getting my rep PRs today and I've booked a physio appointment in for next week to get it looked at. I also had a small mental win this morning, because I didn't have time to brush my teeth after breakfast, but I realised that after lunch is probably fine so I just brushed my teeth then. So it's only mid-afternoon but overall it's been a good first day! The only thing I'm a bit nervous about is whether I'll get myself out of the house this evening to go for a walk to make up my steps. I'll see how I go.
  5. Good luck, I like your goals! What professional qualification are you doing?
  6. Oh yeah, magpies in spring are the worst! We have a website where you can record when they attack and whether you've been injured or not - https://www.magpiealert.com/Swooping-Magpie-Attack-Statistics-2022. There was even one lady whose baby died during an attack, but that was a bit of an extreme case, most of the injuries are just scratches.
  7. I have fallen off the healthy lifestyle wagon massively and I need to restart. I have problems with ADHD and anxiety and I have trouble establishing healthy routines so I need to start small and just try and embed some good habits over the next couple of weeks. Goal 1 - Brush my teeth twice per day This might sound gross, but I haven't been brushing quite as often as I should have been because I have trouble with routines and I hate the taste of toothpaste. My dentist has given me a medicated toothpaste to help with my teeth sensitivity and she wants me to be brushing as a habit twice per day. Evenings should be easy, but mornings will be hard. Goal 2 - Do 3000 steps per day I know this sounds like a really low goal, but since I started working from home at the beginning of the pandemic my step count has been abysmally low. I pretty much only walk from my bed to the computer to the kitchen. I tried doing the recent NerdFitness Facebook challenge for walking but I just couldn't get the momentum up to go outside. I'm hoping that recommitting to this challenge will help me. I can make a graph of my daily steps, I like making graphs. Goal 3 - Start cycling again Now that spring is here in Australia, it's warming up enough that I can probably start leaving the house more. I signed up for a cycling challenge in October so I want to ease myself back into cycling. Obstacles will be getting my bike back in working order (I think the tyres might be flat?), and avoiding the magpies swooping. Goal 4 - Go to the gym twice per week I have a powerlifting competition I've signed up for in November, and I want to get some PRs. I'm good at going once per week because I go with a trainer, but I'm not so good at going another day per week. My trainer has told me that to improve, especially in bench press, I really need to be lifting at least twice per week. I want to try and go on Sundays. Wish me luck!
  8. I'm in Canberra. It's currently 37.9, but there are clouds all over the place so I suspect there will be a storm shortly
  9. I've had a great start so far to the year I took my spreadsheet off line for a little to fix a problem with the cycling tracking formula but it's back now. Cycling is the thing I am doing worst at at the moment because it is SO HOT. Pictured - Australia ATM. It's been over 35C alot (over 95F for Americans). I went cycling yesterday evening for half an hour and almost chucked. I was meant to be riding again today, but it's going to get to 38C today (100F) so I'm going to wait and catch up cycling when it starts cooling down a little. On the dating non-official part of the challenge, I opened and read some messages on OK Cupid. Then fought the urge to delete my entire profile (even though the messages were good, and from smart guys). So that's definitely a win on my trek back to attempted romantic interactions I've added "Learn some Mandarin" to my list of things to do this year and I can say "hello" and "thank you". Everything is going so well that I am in fact nervous something terrible is about to happen. *looks around nervously*
  10. Could you message him or something? Like "As we discussed, I'm now back from vacation and am free at your convenience" or something less or more formal as required
  11. I've never heard of it before, but that sounds great! What kind of act are you thinking of putting together (like punk or folk or...)? What work outs do you do?
  12. My 0 Week has been going really well so far. I eaten within my calorie limits, I've done some writing, and I haven't eaten any KFC or Maccas. I have also made some awesome spreadsheets that I'm very proud of with some automated functions. If you're interested, you can have a look here - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1eUnN03B_WFKhue1q_fxwG5l51gPBi21KGVZy8kFUaF4/edit?usp=sharing It looks like I've lost a lot of weight this week, but it's mostly I've been eating less processed food and so less salt. I had bench press the other night, and it was a good session, though a little disappointing because I my 1RM is down a lot because my training last year was very disrupted. We were working off an estimated current 1RM of 45 kilos (my previous 1RM was 53 kilos) and I managed 45.5 kilos for my final set. I hope to be back up to 50 by the end of this training cycle, and aim to have a new 1RM by the end of the year
  13. Ha, sorry, completely misunderstood I'm really enjoying it! The Facebook page is too crazy to keep track of though. There are so many people who look nice but it's so hard keeping up I found a wingman on there though so that's good.
  14. I know, I eat too much and 2000 calories is probably too much long term but I need to move downwards in stage otherwise I end up wanting a whole bunch of foods that aren't good for me And I'm enjoying Heroes so far - I like the ARG elements, and we all got sorted into teams which was nice. I'm just about to go for a walk because that is one of the things I have to do today to help gain points for my faction towards completing the monthly quest
  15. I'd be interested in what kind of pattern NROLFW has you doing - is it the big 3 lifts or something different?
