  1. walk or run and drink loads of water .... cures everything
  2. SL 5x5 suggested I deload 50% as I had taken a months break .... as I goes I had chest changed program for 3 months so I reloaded 20% on squats, deadlifts and rows and carried on where I left of on OHP and Bench ... and nailed them as my other program seems to have got me past a plateau
  3. ok, so I am not really going to kill them .... but there are days when my 4 year old makes me want to punch things through walls .. man today I bit a massive chunk out of my own lip .. we are talking blood trickling down chin size bite at the annoyance of her refusing to eat anything and ruining any attempt to eat out .... anyway 4 year olds will be 4 year olds and I am sure she does it just to annoy me bless her What I want to know is if there is any form of meditation or anger release methods, that isn't all namely pamby quiet, putting your hands together, and trying to relax. I hate that stuff, it gives me claustrophobia and I get more angry. I already do yoga, its not relaxing, I dont like the sedative spiritual side of it. What I am looking for is a recognised method of anger management that involves punching the crap out of something, or destroying something ? .... is there one ? ... I have a punch bag .. apart from that anyone got any tips on anger release ! I just tried biting the heads off of all the gingerbread men in the house .... that kind of worked, but now I am some 100kcal up and screwed up my macros
  4. buy one of those waterproof sacks ... if its stops stuff getting in, it will stop stuff getting out http://www.dickssportinggoods.com/graphics/product_images/pDSP1-11861952dt.jpg

  6. oil, butter, cream and fat you want calories, go hit the fun stuff. Take a simple salad - 80kcal ... add 2 tblsp of oil based dressing to it and its 320kcal, add 2 rashers of bacon ... another 90kcal . Fry everything in butter ... its 100kcal per tbsp .... make sure you drizzle the butter and juices over your meat when you serve up ... its 100 added calories, for no real content. Gaining weight is the opposite of loosing it .... just do everything in reverse, Drink soda, add fat to everything
  7. when I was in a deficit, I always hoped to lose fat and gain muscle at the same time Forward on a year Now I am eating at a surplice I have discovered that its hard enough to gain fat AND muscle at the same time ! ... Fat is easy to lose and gain .... very easy ...... muscle is bloody hard work trying to gain whilst on a surplice, its nigh on impossible and negligible to build it on a deficit. .... if you can do it, its going to be so slow that you won't really notice it. Just concentrate on fat loss and gaining strength ..... when you cannot be arsed to lose any more fat (I gave up at about 15% because my life style says "lets eat the cake at the weekend") .. then worry about gaining lean muscle
  8. personally I wouldn't worry too much about loosing muscle mass in your situation, its easy to negate by using the muscle and eating well. Sure when you have bulging muscles and are < 10% body fat, then going on a deficit will encourage your body to want to drop the muscle in order to maintain fat stores, so dealing in a perfect living routine, masses of protein and supplements like BCAAs are important. but when you have 35-40lbs to lose then your body is quite willing to use fat as an energy source, so eat at a deficit, make sure you get in respectable about on protein 0.8g-1g is easily enough but dont beat yourself up if you miss a day and follow a resistance training program with body weight or weights (sl5x5 or SS) that increases the difficulty every time you will drop weight, you will loose minimal muscle .. and it really is minimal, you won't notice it, you won't become weaker, the lifting will make you stronger, you will look fitter and healthier The end
  9. also, 1g of protein per lb, its debatable if you really need that much especially as an over weight beginner ...... yes a pro body builder with 11% fat after a bulk and trying to cut down to under 7% before a show that is trying to keep every last milligram of muscle, might well require 1g per lb (and a few hormonal kicks to keep his gains) but as a beginner, you won't loose all your muscle over night by missing the magic protein goal .... I was in a calorie deficit for just over a year, and a lot of the time just could get the required amount of protien in and hit the calorie goals .... i didn't loose al my muscle, my lifts continues to get bigger, I got lean and looked good naked
  10. Coffee rocks !!! 98% of the blood in my veins is coffee ... have it with milk, milk is an excellent source of fat, protein and lactose and can easily be fitted in to your daily calorie and macro needs. Energy boost + recovery all in one
  11. yeah .. you look like me .. albeit 20 years younger Stomachs look like that because you put things in them ...... the issue I think is the rest of your body isn't in proportion to it .... you need bigger pecs, traps, biceps, triceps, lats obliques, etc etc etc. I would cease to worry about loosing the belly, you need it, it holds food and water whilst you digest it .... instead worry on adding some lean mass to your body that will make your stomach look smaller in comparison pick something heavy up .... put it back down again and repeat ... and eat lots of veg and meat
  12. Yeah, 1 week is too short to assess anything. you may well have lost 2 lbs of fat in a week, but eaten high carb and salt the day before and be holding on to 3lbs of water weight ... you need more time, more weigh ins and a table measure
  13. the body is a funny thing, I am the complete opposite, as soon as I go really low carb or really low calories, I bake, my temperature goes through the roof. My wife is sat watching tv, wearing a hoody, jeans, curled up in a ball ... and I am sat next to her in shorts and t-shirt with sweaty palms I assumed, that because I wasn't eating enough my body was going to work trying to break down the fat ....... but I cook on low carb low cal !
  14. coke, redbull .... but ultimately they only give you 80mg of caffeine and stomach full of fizzy liquid. I know you don't want some strange powder from ON .... but the humble caffeine tablet, contains 200mg of anhydrous caffeine ... take 1 - 2 of them with water and you are rocking a taste free 5-6 coffees in one go
  15. I don't believe in anything ... I just don't feel the need to. Its just another thing that us as humans have some underlying urge to be part of something and live our lives by appending rule sets to them based upon what a lot of other people are also doing and giving it a label so we can all be part of the same thing. I just want to be myself, I don't want to have a name for my feelings towards what happens in the world, I don't want to pigeon hole myself "I am a left hopist" its all to much effort and I don't need the payback of believe that is comfort ... I am comforted enough by letting happenings happen. That said though, I do thoroughly believe that ANYTHING can be cured by a suitably large dosage of caffeine .. headache - caffeine, weightloss - caffeine ... child wearing you down - caffeine POW !!!!!
  16. Well for a start there is crap all calories in salad .... so if you are used to eating high calorie food that gets turned straight away into glucose .... and instead of that you give your body a salad, the kick your body was expecting, the functions your body has put into place to work on digesting your dinner, has suddenly been greeted with a sugarless, calorie less fest of vitamins and fibre. ... could well be low blood sugar. edit: are you eating anything else at the same time ? .... multi vitamin, weight loss magic pills, green tea extract supplements ??? ..... a lot of supplements like your stomach to have something in them to stop the nausea and weakness of giving yourself a zinc / caffeine overload etc
  17. I wouldn't worry about running on "that little fuel" .... if it really is too little you will know about it, lethargy, weakness, cravings, lack of mental ability. Looking at your goals, yours is weight loss ... on that alone, if you have days that you only eat 1200 and its not affecting your performance, I wouldn't worry about it .... adding calories because an app says so, is, in my opinion not the best way to achieve weight loss .... adding calories because you are weak, hungry, and not functioning .. thats when you should up the calories. Everyone is different .. and calorie counting vs what the internet says just doesn't work for me .... I am a 75kg man that lifts heavy 3 times a week and does cardio twice a week + walks 15 miles a week and plays all weekend with a 4 year old ..... for me to loose fat I need to eat a fair chunk under what MFP says I should ... my T-levels are fine, my metabolism is fine, I just need to eat a lot less than stated. so my advice would be go on scale weight and body measurements .. track them .... if they are not going in the right direction, change your calorie intake .... if they are, keep it the same .... if you feel weak though and your body needs more calories, then add more, taking the above into account Oh and if you want to eat the same, but add calories, just fry stuff in oil, dress your salad in oil .... their is 120k/cal in a tbsp of oil .... its very easy to go from deficit to excess just by using oil
  18. now that is will power :notworthy:
  19. I dont try and keep them fresh ..... having to go shopping all the time is a necessity exersise. What better excuse to walk 5k than if I dont, I won't eat
  20. caffeine is awesome ... it raises your heartbeat, so its like doing exercise whilst just sitting there .... and it hypes you up when you do exercise so you can push harder. I love caffeine I drink water water + bcaa's milk tea, with milk coffee, with or without milk green tea herbal teas (in the evening to stay away from the caffeine I find thats enough .... at the weekend I sometimes treat myself to a diet coke and a couple glasses of wine
  21. You can increase the difficulty of squats and lunges by carrying a heavy weight whilst doing them. Or working towards one legged squats ..... ultimately though I ended up buying a barbell to make squats work for me
  22. Yup sl5x5 has to be the simplest and easiest program you can follow and it has a great progression for beginners
  23. Damn, made a cake for the weekend, my diet today has consisted of eating bits of chocolate, cherries, raw egg and sugar mix and pastry off cuts ... even if I weight them I don't think I could figure out the calorie intake :D

Nom! When I do that, I just log a piece of the cake. :)

  24. don't knock the walking as ONLY ..... I personally rate walking as one of THE greatest exercises to fat loss of all time. at my prime weightloss the only exercise I was doing was walking ..... these days I am down to 175lbs, and pretty chiseled with a good 2-4pack showing and I now walk approx 4-6 miles a day, just to get grocery shopping that gets loaded in to a nice 45ltr ruck sack its such an easy way to burn through some calories that you can use as part of your life style, i.e. walk to the shops, get some fresh air, raise the heart rate a bit, top up on vitamin d .... don't need special clothes or to change, shower, warm up, or stretch Sure I lift, I run, I row .... but my general health and well being ... that I put down to walking when I don't need to drive
  25. the thing is ..... he won't change unless "he" wants to ... trying to change his diet, trying to force him down a path he doesn't want to go will only harbour resentment. He has to want to change himself, so he can drive himself. Unfortunately he might just need to hear a few painful truths. If it was me I would want you to come clean and be blunt about it "darling, your t-shirts haven't shrunk, you have eaten too much" ..... but how sensitive is he .... perhaps a more subtle approach .. use the "we" word even though you both know its him thats been eating the cheese .. "eek, we are getting fat, I think its time we started eating healthily and took up exercise together" Good luck, its hard hurting the ones you love, but there is no easy way to tell someone that you preferred them the size they were before and likewise .. you might well be superficial asshole, but so be it ... so am I ... and the majority of the population to boot
