  1. That could be really fun, racing with your brothers! Also I sent you a follow request on ig. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  2. Guys! Guys! Guess what??!! I just front squatted 70 pounds! It's crazy because I miscounted the weights. I've got this math dyslexia thing so numbers mix me up sometimes. My last PR was on Thursday last week and I squatted 50 pounds, so today I thought I'd try 60. But miscounted. And when I went to log it into the spreadsheet, I counted the plates again and realized I'd done 70. Oh man!! Talk about motivating. I wanna go do that again!!!
  3. Hey I like the name change! Took me a minute as I've been afk the last few days. Thank you about the wood shop -- we were able to open the dart board and play darts on Sunday with all the gang and taught a few people how to play. That was really fun and it's been a long time since we've had that room clean enough that we could play darts. We are fortunate to have 6 disc golf courses within 20 minutes of us. If you'd like to locate disc golf courses near you, go to www.dgcoursereview.com and put in your zip code, and it'll give you all the locations within the radius you set. We do get out often, sometimes 3-4 times a week during warmer weather. The closest course to us is Laura Bradley Park, and it's like 5 minutes away by car. That's where we're holding the tournament on April 30th. Being terrible at it isn't something to worry about! It's not a natural skill to most people and they ARE terrible at it until they develop those skills, just like weight lifting. I highly recommend YouTube as a great resource for learning about the game, learning the skills, learning about the different discs, etc. Of course you're always welcome to ask questions about the game. Thank you, Chris! Congrats on that martial arts trophy! How many have you won since that first one, and are you still into competitive martial arts?
  4. Ugh. Sounds like he's got some work to do in the people skills department. Had he taken you aside after class, asked about your concerns and addressed them, he maybe wouldn't have lost a student. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  5. Thanks EG, it's exciting to watch your journey, too. That's a good point about many nerds being able to relate. Makes me feel all the more that I'm in the right place. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  6. Wow, I'm excited for your transformation! And I get hurlish when I eat to close to workout, too. I seem to do allot better working out fasted. Fun to meet someone and chat for awhile! You're really digging this gym. Love it. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  7. I just had a sudden realization: I'm an athlete. I guess I'd always had the subconscious belief that only people who were really fit and overly dedicated to some sport were worthy of the title. But it hit me just now, that I also qualify. While I'm not super fit, I'm working toward it. I'm dedicated to my weight lifting and my disc golf sport. I compete in disc golf tournaments. I am an athlete. This is an incredible realization. It changes my perception of myself in a profound way. And it heals an old wound. As a child and for all but the last couple of years of my adulthood, I was the opposite of athletic. I was the clumsy girl in school who hated p.e. I was usually the last girl picked for teams. I was skinny and tall and uninterested in anything sporty. I came to believe that I'd never become anything resembling athletic. It was reinforced when Allen would try to get me to play Co-ed softball with him. The results were disastrous, because I'm not very coordinated, I was skinny-fat with no muscle tone, and I kept getting embarrassed by my horrible performance. It was like a self-fulfilling prophecy. But the last couple of years - four really, since we began playing disc golf, and then almost two since finding nerd fitness - I've been changing. And it feels like it's finally hit me that I'm no longer an anti-athlete, or unathletic, or incapable of becoming am athlete. Today is going to be an INCREDIBLE day. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  8. I haven't posted a food log in awhile. Breakfast was 2 bowls of special k with berries cereal, a cup of cashew milk, 1/4th an avocado, and 1.5 ounces of beef liver . Morning snack was 3 tbsp Nestlé dark chocolate chips. Lunch was an ounce of beef jerky. Dinner was 3 chicken legs (no skin) baked with a Thai peanut sauce, about a dozen sugar snap peas and half a fresh pear. Dessert was 3 frozen pomegranate bars. Calories were 1700 out of 1700. Protein was 84, fat was 59, carbs were 218, fiber was 22, and net carbs were 198. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  9. I love liver, and fairly regularly eat it. My favorite way of cooking it is to cook a couple slices of bacon, then saute the liver in the bacon fat, seasoned with onion powder, salt, and pepper. Sometimes I also put roasted onion on top. Serve with the bacon crumbled on top, maybe with a little fresh advocado is you like it. Very healthy. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  10. Thank you, girls. I'm feeling like this challenge has been my best one so far, so pretty encouraged to keep going. Seven, you asked how long it normally takes. I'd say about 90 minutes, between rests and plate changes and everything. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  11. Workout log: I'm all shaky right now! But had a couple of PR's today. Front squats - 5x30#, 5x40#, 3x50# PR I was making funny puffy faces on that last set! Bench press - 5x30#, 5x40# 2x60# PR I was surprised I got that second one. Goblet lunges - 10x10#, 3 sets. This is a compromise between the bodyweight ones and the weighted ones. Dropped the weight 60%, doubled the reps. Dumbbell rows - 10x27.5#, 3 sets. Beginning with the non-dominant arm helped quite a bit. I think next week I can go up to 30#. I instagrammed part of my set. And yes, I do count out loud... Planks - 40 seconds, 3 sets. Taking video helps alot. Able to tweak my plank a little bit. Disc Golf Putts - 7|10, 5|10, 4|10. I did the first set at 12 feet where I'd been doing them before. Then the last two sets I backed up to 15 feet away and worked from there. Bicep curls - 5x35#, 4x35#, 2x35#. Just was getting really pooped by that last set. But I remember only being able to get 3 a set at this weight last week I think. Working on my form and trying to keep my elbows from moving forward at all. Seated overhead press - 5x30#, 3x40#, 3x40#. Again just got tired toward the end of the circuit. I worked really hard today.
  12. Thank you for the congrats, ladies! I'll pass those along to my son and daughter-in-law.
  13. Having fun looking through your pinned recipes! And thanks for inviting us to share an incentives board. Great idea. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  14. Have an awesome trip and looking forward to hearing your theme idea and such. You've really done a great job this challenge, and made some major decisions (workout, gym, dietary). sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  15. I do, and I pin like crazy, but I tried to send you to one of my boards and I guess I don't know how to do it. But I did follow your board just now, if that helps? sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  16. I love that idea! Yes, add me as a pinner? (How would you like to do that? ) sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  17. What a fun scene! I was thinking, maybe your answer to people about why you powerlift is so that you strengthen your bones and muscles against the natural loss that happens in old age. You're working now to stave off hip replacements then. sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  18. Yeap. Valentine's day and all. ... *grin* sent from my tiny particle accelerator
  19. It's official, Grandbaby #6 is on the way, due in October. That makes 4 of the 6 grandkids with birthdays in the same month!
  20. CourtnieMarie turned me onto this simple online tool for tracking your daily weight, might be helpful to Mrs. D, might not. But it does all the calculations for you and gives you an accurate average of the week. www.fourmilab.ch.
  21. I'm glad to see you're ready to start lifting again. While I don't have any help for you on the programming, I hope you do find something that works, even if you're cobbling a program along from different elements. How's Mrs. D doing? Is she still working on the BBWW or is she going to try something different for April?
  22. Gorgeous, isn't it? Too bad it's only a miniature. But would also make a hawt wedding cake topper.....
  23. Ohhhh okay re: dead hang vs flat foot one. Makes total sense now. You have to jump up to the bar or somesuch for dead hang, yes? One-side dominant: I was having the same issue with my db rows, only being left side dominant. One person suggested doing the right (weaker) side first on the rows, and adding an extra rep in there to help strengthen it. Made sense to me. Dragon cake? Bah. Small time. How bout this: I would have loved to see that ab-poke with your brother and the shocked look on his face, and then your laughter. Priceless.
  24. Great idea on the weeding. Hmmm makes me think how I could incorporate weeding (or picking up sticks). Love the skirt!
