  1. So. Much. Awesomeness in this reply! Thank you dearly, and I do not expect any kind of time-frame for your replies. NO EXPECTATIONS. Yep she's okay. Sore and yes she has to modify her diet. But she's alright. Bahahahaha! Meme awesomeness. Love it. But yes, I've been letting my food-weebles wobble this week. And is almost entirely my own fault (aka lack of planning). I did not give in to all-or-nothing thinking, however, and just binge the whole week so that's good. Oh yeah, I immediately thought of you when I saw my calorie count for the day. Feel free to call me on it when I do stuff like that! Yeah usually it isn't a problem when I'm at home working, to get enough calories. In fact the opposite is true; but as you said, healthy calories are a different matter. There weren't enough veggies last week. Oh yeah it's a thing. But I didn't realize it was an unhealthy behavior until a year or two ago. So I've probably been doing the "drop everything and entertain the visitor" for decades. I'm really trying to reign that in (and cut new neural pathways in the process- aka reverse old thought processes. It's the mental equivalent of pulling your wagon train out of the wagon wheel ruts cut across the vast Prairie, and forging a completely new path. Not easy stuff). Codependency is the behavioral equivalent of dominant genetic traits, like brown eyes. Most women (80%) are Codependent to one degree or another - it's been built into our global culture and our families for eons. We misinterpret that Codependent behavior as "serving others" or "loving people" or whatever. When what it really is, deep down inside us, is a fear-based manipulation tool. We do it because we fear not getting our emotional needs met ("if I serve you and shower you with love and attention, then you MUST love me back, right? And if you don't, then there's something wrong with me."). We don't stand up for ourselves out of a fear of rejection or abandonment. We take whatever emotional crumbs we get because we believe we aren't worthy of more. I'm reading (albeit very slowly) an excellent book about this: Boundaries, by Henry Cloud. It's changing the way I think about how I interact with people and with myself. This. Exactly this. Great example. Next time, try excusing yourself and go back to the homework. Your brain will scream at you that you're being rude, and your emotions well feel all wrong. But those are lies. In reality, you're not obligated to drop everything. He likely doesn't expect it, anyway. Reading that made ME laugh like a lunatic and scare my cat!! But the reality is, I know I need about 6 or so glasses a day, experience has taught me that. In practice I get 3-5. Still working on it. Well if my (ab)normal pattern holds, in the next week I'll start putting in 14 hour days and rejecting all invitations. This is not good. So I'm trying to change it. The pendulum swing just isn't healthy and it makes me cranky. Especially at the holidays. This year it will be different! Even if the progress is small. This. ^^^ mutual stalking and rooting!! Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  2. Okay I'm reading these things from your profs, and they're both talking about the same issues: not attending class, not following directions to the letter, and not meeting mini goals within the project time-frame. So have you had any peer critique of your progress to get an unbiased eye on whether you've met or exceeded the criteria? You're a brilliant girl so I know you're capable. The question is where your head is at and whether the profs' complaints apply to you personally. And if they do, what are you going to do about it. I'm not trying to sound like your mom, truly - I'm just trying to help you step back from the trees and look at the whole forest. If upon getting an objective opinion, they say you're good, then those emails from the profs can roll of your back like water off a duck. But if the shoe fits, then you have to take your lumps. About getting your DL and joining a gym, more power to ya! I think that's a great idea. Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  3. Woot woot! Already done all 3! I follow Amdhiel, Razzy, Shaeon, and others. Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  4. 1. Is your overall quest achievable (over a short or long period of time)? Yes. Even though I'm injured right now, I'm still able to work out and meet my quests. 2. Is it reasonable? Absolutely. All the elements are things I've been previously working toward and have made progress on. 3. Do your 3 quests all build towards your main quest in little ways, or are you taking on too much? I think the only part i may be taking on to much of its expecting myself to post daily in the forums. I did 6 days out of 7 this week, but perhaps setting the bar at 3x might be more reasonable. 4. Do your quests have sub-quests or is it just one thing to focus on? Each quest has multiple sub-quests cuz I'm meticulous and love checking things off lists. 5. Are your main goals realistic? Yes. They all mesh together to produce a stronger, healthier me in 6 weeks. 6. ARE your goals able to be measured and tracked? What will you use to track them? Yes, I'm using a grading system, A-F. And doing weekly summaries to help in grading at the end. 7. Is there a reward for the effort, or are you only grading yourself on whether or not you “lose the weight†or “run the distance Yes, stats and leveling up are my rewards. Oh. And clothes! If I met all my goals in a given week, I get to go spend $5 at the thrift shop of my choice. 8. What is your plan for continuing/altering/grading those goals if you become ill or injured? Yes, I temporarily suspended my push-up goals while my wrist heals. I went back to wall push-ups to reduce pressure on that wrist. 9. Did you take into consideration any special occasions (Labour Day, Independence Day, birthdays, anniversaries, etc) that may occur during the challenge? What modifications do you need to build into your goals for those? Yes, the goals are flexible enough that I have wiggle room in each week to allow for interruptions. 10. Do any of your main goals conflict with each other? Will one goal make it hard to do another? Nope, they all fit pretty well. 11. Do you already have the time in your schedule to actually complete the goals you’ve set? If not, what are you planning to do to make time for them? Yes I do. But of course I have to make myself DO IT. 12. Are you trying to build multiple habits, or is all your energy focused on your main quest? Multiple habits - but they're ones that were already established before the challenge began. Final thoughts: Oh man, I almost missed this - completely brain farted on subbing this thread. 5. Best of luck to you on your challenge, Turtle. Love your walking stats. Way to get out there and work those legs! Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  6. I was kinda on the fence about joining the Assassins until I read the phonebook. Very cool. If I join, could I add disc golf (my sport)? Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  7. He's got a good point ^^^ And if all else fails, use the damn thing as a coat rack.
  8. Yeah, feeling tired is definitely understandable. Good that you can cut yourself some slack and focus on just the one thing-- walking. Well and eating habits! Good for you for keeping things in focus and not spreading yourself too wide. I hope tomorrow is a good work day and you have enough energy to complete the day well. One. Day. At. A. Time.
  9. Your'e doing GREAT, Amdhiel! Congrats on the completion of the YAYOG. Successfully crushed to dust indeed. ::::
  10. Hey I think you're doing really well, taking into consideration how tough the week was. And about the weight gain: I read that our bodies put on muscle faster than we lose fat. So likely what you're seeing is muscle in your body being added, before fat being lost. Sometimes it just will feel upside down like that, and all you wanna do is chuck the scale out the nearest window, especially when you've worked so hard. Keep at it-- eventually the scale WILL go down.
  11. Challenge 1, week 1 summary Looking back, did I meet my goals for the week? --Quest 1: working out 3x this week, check. Increasing reps by 1: check. Making adjustments for wrist injury: check. --Quest 2: Post in the forums every day: 6 out of 7. I think expecting a daily posting may be too ambitious. I am thinking backing the minimum down to 3x a week, knowing likely I'll post more than that. But making it a bit more achievable might be wise. Join an Accountabilibuddies group: done. --Quest 3: Eat paleo at least 5 days a week: meh, I only did half. Still fighting carb creep! Some weeks I do better than others, and this one not so much. 8 glasses of water a day: yeah not. Again, some weeks I do better. Getting to bed before 11: yes, although staying up reading until 12:30 a couple times isn't doing me any good! Post progress photos: check. I would say that I still think these items on Quest 3 are critical to do, and I know I'm capable of doing them, so I don't know if they're too ambitious. I just need to do a better job of reaching out instead of reaching for a treat, and drinking water when my app notification goes off instead of ignoring it. --Life Quest: spend 6 hours a day/4 days a week in the studio: NO. Still struggling with that. Just had a LOT of visitors this week. 5 hours working on video: Nope. Now I did THINK about it. But if I don't get my arse in gear I'm gonna miss my deadline and that's unacceptable. These life goals are non-negotiable so I have to get some serious focus going here.
  12. Gif awesomeness!! Ha! Thanks for stopping by, Charlie. Yeah I was just thinking about that tennis ball again tonight. My shoulder is still bothering me, so that tells me I need a chiropractic adjustment. But the ball helps get me through until then. We went out dancing with friends last night, the band wasn't really all that good so kinda disappointing. But the friends said they'd go with us again, so at least they weren't put off by the experience. They said they used to go line dancing years back, and that it looked fun. Also we found out that the club gives couples lessons, so we're gonna try to hit those when we can. You mentioned my first week, and I'll use that as a segue into my week 1 summary: Challenge 1, week 1 summary Looking back, did I meet my goals for the week? --Quest 1: working out 3x this week, check. 18. True on the type of cardio! If it isn't giving you an elevated hr for 20 minutes it really isn't doing the job. But step counts go through the roof, so win! Just getting my workout on. Push push pull pull!! Gonna be a good day. Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  19. Omg I just tried the tennis ball. HURT SO GOOD! Thanks again for that suggestion! Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  20. Today was a good day. I got alot accomplished work-wise (no drop in visits) and put in a 12 hour day. It's a very leisurely pace with regular breaks though so it's probably like 9 hours of solid work. I figure if I can get about 15 more of those in the next 4 weeks, I'll hit my life goals for this challenge. Went dancing last night and it reminded me how much I missed it. Hubby and I had been doing ballroom, salsa, and country line dancing about a year ago, but we got really busy so we stopped. Went back to line dancing last Saturday, had a total blast, so went to class on Wednesday. Which helps my cardio, cuz you try dancing Thunderfoot 4x in a row and try not breaking out in a sweat! Not gonna happen. Food.... Well, I didn't keep a lid on it today. Gotta rein that back in tomorrow. Okay! That's about it for today! Sent from my Samsung S4 using Tapatalk.
  21. All I can say is, wow. WOW. Okay, and yeah I can see how humbling that can be! Yikes. Well, good for you for taking a high road, and looking back at the experience as a learning opportunity (humility and gratitude) rather than being resentful about it. **** On an entirely different note regarding my Life Quest: I'm making progress toward that online class video that's due in 3 weeks, and the girls who are running the craft site made me a video on youtube. Simple little animoto-style slideshow but still, I'm grinning ear to ear right now.
  22. Well, between the muscle relaxer and his massage last night, I'm much better today-- thank you:) It's not an uncommon issue for me (hence the take-as-needed ongoing prescription for the muscle relaxer). And I appreciate the suggestions and just general encouragement!
  23. Oh man.... we should share stories sometimes. All I'd have to do is copy what you said here and put it into my name. Best of luck to you, hun.
