  1. Awesome, I LOVE this. Keep pushing yourself!
  2. Ha glad to know I'm not alone! but those push ups WILL be ours!!
  3. 1) Pushups: See previous post. 10/8/4/4/8 2) Class: Anusara Yoga. Did a couple of awesome poses including handstand, forearm stand, compass and sundial, which are really difficult to describe and just as difficult to do! 3 down, 57 to go! (Now that I've upped to 60!) 3) Handstand: Practiced jump kicks after teaching this morning. Did an assisted handstand for 30 seconds during yoga class.
  4. I wouldn't worry about that. The right lady will totally support you in your awesome-ness. Love your goals; you are going to kick some major @$$!
  5. Awesome! All I can say is keep it going!
  6. Push ups today: Week 1, Day 1: 10/8/4/4/8 I started over in column 3, which makes sense because I started at 14 pushups, and I'm not sure if it's from teaching yoga this morning or the intense class I went to yesterday, but I could not get above 8 that second set, so dropped down into column 2. Better slow and steady than burn out!
  7. I will be so sure to do this. Preferably in the middle of yoga class!
  8. Wise move. Pushing through tends to lead to even more destruction. Very impressed by your attitude and acceptance of where you are at, as well as your determination to keep challenging yourself even if you have a setback from your original intention! Way to go.
  9. @darkstar I have actually been debating that- for my 60 classes, they don't all have to be at the studio I work at, though most of them probably will be. For their 30 day challenge, all the classes will be there so I will probably try and do all 60 at the studio except for when I am home for Thanksgiving. But even then maybe those will just be bonus classes @Tin Man Yesterday was test day and I got 14, today I am starting the workouts. Really excited for this one! I think the pushups challenge will be the hardest one for me to motivate myself for, at least comparatively, because I am already doing so many classes and have a lot of support from friends and teachers for the handstands. Which is why I'm so happy you and Denny are both working on this challenge as well! Also, for clarification: I am beginning to feel fairly confident doing a handstand not against the wall if someone is assisting me. For some reason kicking up by myself is so much harder, now that I understand how it feels to be upside down in this capacity. I'm going to keep trying Denny's technique and seeing how it goes!
  10. You've got it! I totally believe in you. Way to aim high!
  11. You know that facebook has taken over your life when you want to 'like' a post in a forum. Yuck. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that. That being said, way to get those extra sets in there!
  12. That's a great idea to count how many cigarettes you have in a day. Awareness is the first step and if you have 14 tomorrow, awesome! Keep it up lady!
  13. Report! 1) My initial # of pushups I can do is 14. I think I have decided to follow the hundred pushups plan- otherwise a friend of mine today suggested a slightly different plan- this first week, for 3 days do 2 sets of 10 pushups, one in the morning and one at night. The next 3 days increase to 3 sets of 10, and then on day 7 test myself to see how many I can do. 2nd week increases # in each set, and so on. They seem pretty similar but I think I will stick with the hundred pushups just so we can all track our progress together! 2) Went to a spin/barre class today. 2 down, 54 to go! And actually I'm thinking of just upping to an even 60 classes in 60 days, having the 60th day be Christmas eve. Seems pretty appropriate. Of the next 8 classes I take, 3 have to be something other than yoga. 3) Did a handstand in the middle of the room with assistance from a fellow yoga teacher. I was actually kind of excited rather than terrified, and the way she helped me really worked well. As I get over my fear I will start practicing on my own trying to get against the wall as well as making sure I get upside down every day! Life goal: No specific work on my website but I did reach out to someone in need of a graphic designer. This is a total win for me.
  14. Awesome! Love all the support! @Spauracchio Hooray! Yoga is the best. I am here for all questions, support, cheerleading, etc. that you need!! @Denny Thanks for the handstand tips! It's great to get a non-yoga perspective because I think we all (teachers) only know so many ways to teach and do them.
  15. Nice! I'm looking into the 100 pushups program...seems like I might be able to do more than 50 if I go that route! I think I may just follow that one so that we will all be doing the same thing and can compare results. I didn't have a real plan before that except to just add one more each day to what I already can do. Does your gym have any yoga classes? I highly recommend it, but then I'm biased as I'm a teacher and even without a challenge I practice 4-5 days a week But it has seriously changed my life- my body is so much stronger, I'm more flexible, and my mind is so much calmer and clearer. A great way to start is to get a DVD, maybe a yoga for beginners or yoga for athletes, and go from there!
  16. @darkstar Haha yeah, I did a workshop with them about a month ago and they are amazing. I have a slackline and with lots of practice I can now stand and maybe take 2 steps, but I'm guessing I have several years of work ahead of me!
  17. @darkstar: You're on! @Kristi: That's awesome! I love doing headstands. They are one of my favorite inversions so I'm excited you are working on them! Different yoga teachers teach headstands in different ways, but if you are very careful to keep most of your weight in your forearms you can also 'kick up' into headstand against a wall just like you do handstand. I started off that way just so I could get used to the feeling of being upside down. That's my main goal with handstand- to be able to kick up without assistance so I can practice on my own! @MakeItSo: Please bug me! I love talking about yoga
  18. Yeay yeay yeay!! A thread concerning ultimate. I started playing about 6 years ago; started my women's team in college and now play on a competitive mixed club team. Freaking great way to have insane amounts of fun while staying in shape. One of the reasons strength training is so important to me is to keep my body strong and healthy for all those lateral movements and quick start/stops. Anyone played any fun tournaments lately?
  19. Yeay this is fantastic! I pretty much live and breathe yoga so I am so happy that, as someone new to the site, I was able to find a thread dedicated to yoga so quickly. @BruceMacInness I would try picking up a yoga DVD first, particularly one that is geared toward athletes- yoga for athletes or yoga for runners usually focus a lot on hips and hamstrings, overall flexibility, as well as core strength. Rodney Yee has quite a few DVDs designed for athletes, and another person to try would be Baron Baptiste's power yoga. Books are great but if you are completely new to yoga I would try a DVD first so that you can see and hear what the poses and alignment in the poses are supposed to look like. I hope you find something that speaks to you!
  20. Nice. I love the concise, specificity of your goals. Pure numbers, which you will no doubt reach!
  21. Nice! I hope to get to 100 pushups some day. Awesome goals, looking forward to seeing how you progress!
  22. Hi! I just joined your squad...never done one of these challenges on here but I am into it. These guys are my personal heroes: http://www.yogaslackers.com, and one of my ultimate goals is to be able to do handstand pushups on a slackline. Oh yes. But I'll need to get over my fear of handstands first! Super excited to be a part of this
  23. Hey we have the same goal of 50 pushups! Awesome! And the fact that you are playing beach ultimate in your photo makes me ridiculously happy...I've been playing ultimate competitively for almost 6 years now. Just joined your squad so I'll be around! Way to stick with it on the first day, even when you were tired and the habit isn't there yet!
  24. Hi Tom! Just joined your squad and your goals sound freaking great! I've never heard of that technique so I'm super excited to see how it goes for you!
