  1. Oh sweet. sorry for the delay, kept waiting for a notification. PM me next time you are headed this way. I have a few folks I do ruck marches with, plus we have the best omelets in the state of at the Diner
  2. Been waiting for a while to see if someone else would post for my neck of the woods, but lurking gets me nowhere fast, obviously. Any NFers here in the Tyler/Longview area? It'd be great to meet up, get some excitement going.
  3. I have a few dumbbells, but I don't bring those with me to work obviously. Really, with proper form you can use a milk crate or a box of copy paper. At the hospital, I use oxygen cylinders. As long as it has proper handles and appropriate weight, you can really experiment with rows.
  4. I work 17 hours at the town hospital, and I feel your pain. Never did any of these workouts for more than a week or two, and I sustained myself for too long on lounge room chips and soda! If I ever got time to eat a meal, it's gonna be the d grade foodstuff they serve down in the caf. Not exactly a recipe for success. I would take some time before your work week to pre cook some meals you can bring with you. Bake a slew of chicken breasts to go along with your salads, etc. Set up a crockpot in your office, if you have one. The hardest part of eating healthy is the time it takes to get all that healthy food ready, so fight that fight before hand.
  5. I don't know if it is may fair Scandinavian heritage showing, but I look like I just got in a fight everytime I work out. My face gets a set of sweaty red racoon's eyes. And I am a pretty lean guy. It might just be what your body does!
  6. Great goals! I am watching DW right now, actually.
  7. I'm going well so far! I wasn't sure if this was the place, but here is where I am at mid week. All in all, I am doing well! I have been in the transition of "I am going to start working out" phase for too long, and so I am ecstatic to have 3 workouts in 3 days. The hardest part will be making time for quality work. I work 3 days a week (nice) but at 17 - 8 - 17 hours, so that's a guarantee limited workout day. Forces me to get creative, like doing the NF Advanced body weight workout in empty patient rooms. Goal 1- Starting weight was 169 as of Monday, at around mid morning with no weight shenanigans to account for. I have been focusing on eating meals instead of passing the buck with snacks, so I hope to get some progression by week 2! Goal 2- As far as baselines go, I am hanging out at 4-5 solid pullups and as many chinups, so If I can keep it going with pullups in my workouts, and add a rep or two as I can, I will be fine. I have a sturdy pipe near my work station so I can grease the groove at work! Goal 3 - I only ran yesterday for a very short distance, but it was as 100 % as I could make it. I ran 1 mile to get to my car after dropping a car off. Made it in 5 minutes 22 Seconds, which is a crummy mile time, but it is a start! I will do more intervals tomorrow. Goal 4- So far, I have gone to the gym only today, with 4 sets of 10 @ 135, but I did do the NF advanced body weight on monday, which includes squats, so I will count that as 2 workouts per the goal so far! Haven't even touched my Life goals, so I will have to finish out the week strong if I want to count those. Preach it! I would hate to rush a decision, but I can't just make no decision either. Overall though, I am just happy to be doing something! I am kicking myself for not joining the forums earlier!!
  8. You got it, reptile hero! I personally love zumba, when I have a few friends with me. Apparently, I look a little ridiculous like a spider on a hot plate. Make sure you give yourself time to recover, and listen to your body. Working out everyday is taxing on a body that isn't used to it. The sleep goal will definitely help you out here. Good luck!
  9. Shopping for investments is the worst! My bank (USAA) has a moderately aggressive growth and income stock fund that has posted good numbers over the last few years. I'm sure there are better options elsewhere, but I think it is more important for me to just do something with my money. Paralysis by analysis is my enemy. Thanks for the invite! I've been eyeballing the Assassin's. Definitely fits my goals
  10. I have been a long time wall flower around here (2012) and I never got around to joining the forums. I just moved to a new place, and lost my workout partner/usual turf, so maybe this will help keep me accountable! Long term, I really like the idea of mastering my own body, and being "useful." In the interest of utility, I want to be able to run as far as I need to, as fast as I need to, with the strength to fight when I get there. Things like parkour, bouldering, etc have been longtime goals of mine, and being able to progress those skills would be an achievement. I have a hard time putting any useful mass on, so I would like to gain as much muscle as I need to to move fluidly, targeting 180-185. So for this challenge, Fitness Goal 1 - Gain some doggone weight! I have always been a chronically lean guy, and I want to change that. This challenge, I want to gain 5 pounds, based on my weight come start of Day 1, allowing 1 lbs of maintained gains.. Goal 2 - Be able to do 10 proper pullups in a set. The pullup used to be my baby, but I lost that when I used the easy out of "no access to a pullup bar." Goal 3 - Bring my run time down by 30 seconds. I average 14:30 to 15:00 on my 2 mile time, and I want to get that between 14 and 14:15. To do this, I will do some sort of cardio focused workouts 4 days week. Goal 4 - Squat with weight equal to my body weight. I have never been a good squatter (is that even a term in this sense...?) but I have been working on it. Luckily, by low body weight makes this attainable without being intimidating. I plan to incorporate some sort of squats into my daily routine. Life Goal 1 - Start an investment account, with a moderately aggressive fund. I always get to looking at my options when I notice something else, and push planning for the future behind me. I already have an emergency account, and minimized my debts to the big 2 (mortgage and student loans,) so some investing is my next stop! Goal 2 - Spend quality time with my neglected guitar. I bought the thing with graduation money from HS 6 years ago, and I haven't really learned how to play. I want to spend 30 minutes a day, 4 days a week, actually practicing and progressing with it. I hope this fits the format of the forum. I am very excited to finally join the rebellion! (officially)
