  1. For now, whatever I can. Really its more about if I can cook or not. Being able to cook = healthy food days. Otherwise, I end up having pretty much whatever I can buy. I am getting better at eating primalish, but it is difficult since my SO does not follow a paleo diet... I´ve tried cooking in advance, but so far it´s a skill I have yet to develop.
  2. I am a jack of all trades by nature. I cannot focus. Trying to do so has spelled disaster for me in the past. So I am going to play to my strengths... by which I mean do a whole bunch of stuff at the same time, even if I only advance one at a time. But every bit of improvement piles up in the end, right? concept art for my d&d 3.5 wizard a Master specialist conjurer. Previously on Wizard in the making: As he continued his journey to reach new heights of arcane power, erosan realized one esoteric secret of his own: a wizard (a proper wizard I mean) must always be prepared for the unexpected, for the unexpected is ALWAYS prepared for a wizard. Meaning, that even though he can plan however much as he likes, the universe and its forces conspire to change said plans. But that's allright. Goals are aplenty, so even if there is not enough time to tackle ALL of them, progress has been made, and even advances in other areas... sometimes, from unexpected sources. Such is the case of this wizard's crafting skills. Turns out origami and sewing found a way to combine to give birth to craft (bookmaking), which is all fine and dandy, because a mage needs an unearthly grimoire of arcane knowledge... a spellbook. I can now create mine. Yeah, I'm keeping it simple, since I've got to job hunt too. Currently Training Disciplines of the body: Walking - Keep walking the walk. QUEST: Walk a total of 4 hours a week. Calesthenics - If at first you don's succeed, try again. QUEST: bodyweight exercises, 2 times per week. Primal living - EAT PRIMAL, LGN. (This used to be my goal and motivation, and I'm walking under this flag once more). QUEST: eat primal at least 3 DAYS a week. Disciplines of the mind: Rationality - Learn some more bayesian rationality. Disciplines of the hand: Crafting - Perfect the newly discovered art of bookbinding. Do at least 1 book per week. Bonus points if trying a new binding method. Disciplines of the soul: Drawing - keep on practicing! Study some anatomy or something! Corax, a raven familiar My updated IRL Character sheet: I might come back and add some more goals later this challenge
  3. Did one! according to my calculations, I could singlehandedly finish this challenge, provided I continue at this rhythm for a year or so. (of course what´ll prolly happen is the guild will do the next 900+ pullups in the next 24 to 48 hours, "friendly"-competition style. also... does chin-ups count as a pull up variation?
  4. Oh, I am totally on board (pun intended) for this mini... BUT sorry... all the nathan fillion gifs make me think of Cactoid Jim...bonus internet points to those who know what I'm talking about without googling it.
  5. Print this, pin it to your fridge, bathroom mirror, office cubicle and anywhere else you deem fit so you can refer to it whenever you start to forget exactly how much ass you kick. Seriously, nee-chan.. you are such a badass.
  6. I don´t know if they still manufacture them, but I learned about 8 years ago about this company called d3o, that made a compound that acted like a non newtonian fluid, in that it stayed flexible while under the action of low intensity forces, but would get hard when struck with a sudden force, absorbing the shock at the same time. They use that to do like motorcycle jackets that are armored, in case you fall off your bike during a competition and stuff. ALSO (and the point I was getting to), they used to make beanie caps for snowboarders lined with the substance underneath... SO, maybe hunt down one of these in case they are still around? they should avoid you gagging for 13 miles. The company IS legit, this is not an edited video... as far as I know, they still do safety gear and sport gear for like professional american football helmets and stuff. But I don´t know if they still produce the beanies
  7. I know it to be a mixture of attention deficit and trying too many things at once. Also, life got in the way, as you so wisely mention. But its all accounted for... See, I know I am not likely to tackle all the goals in such a short time, 4 weeks is not a whole lot of time afterall. But I still name the goals, in case I can get to them. As with many of our experiences, it is not the short burst of effort that matters, but the long run. Kinda like having a slice of cake won´t make you fat if you eat healthy the rest of the year since on average you are being healthy. Same principle applies here. I couldn´t/wouldn´t/didn´t remember to work on the sewing goal, even if I wanted to, but that´s ok, since the important part is "will I be able to advance this skill in the long term"? So, not really worried about failing this one challenge. And even if the exercise went sideways halfway through, I certainly did a LOT better than on the previous 4wc to this one. So, behold: improvement. Little steps, even if I do 2 steps forward and one step back, will take me to the goal line eventually. (also, I sort of got distracted with a couple of projects which are bound to be included on my next challenge randomness... maybe)
  8. There you go... that´s more like it. Remember 2 4wc ago, when @BlackTezca challenged us to copy one of the masters in the Loft? same drill. Copying is a way of learning, yes?
  9. I would not call it cheating, unless you traced over the reference drawing, and even then there are things to be said about an exercise where you trace over a drawing from another artist... like developing muscle memory and you paying attention to how certain lines fit with the drawing and such. Do you know what do people call artists who draw looking at a model instead of drawing from their imagination? yup, they still call them artists. I´ve mentioned this to you before, but if you consider most of your drawings come out of your head, you are a more advanced artist than me since I can´t really draw unless I have a model... So if thats cheating, then I´m cheating every single day I sketch... Are you calling me a cheater, nee-chan? (of course, following)
  10. End of challenge recap This challenge was a bag of mixed nuts... some things went great, others... well not so much. e.g. I am without a job right now. I would make it part of my next challenge to find a new job, but knowing my luck I will probably find something before week 0 finishes... Anyways, lets revisit the goals... Currently Training Disciplines of the body: Walking - AAAACED it. Walked about 60 to 90 mins in the mornings alone, pretty much every day. Yup, I already knew I liked walking, so this comes as no surprise at all. Will I up the ante for the next 4wc? dunno yet. Calesthenics - DID great. did. As in the past. I nailed it during the first half of the challenge, then stopped. So, close but no cigar. Retry next 4wc. Primal living - Could use more work. Definitely did the eat primal 3 times at least, but that is just not enough to bring a change to my body. veredict: try harder next challenge. Disciplines of the mind: Rationality - I did read a couple of articles... but mostly during the first 2 weeks, then I... sort of forgot this was a goal? I keep practicing what I've learned though. Reading - Holy crapamole... I read everything from books to graphic novels to comics to the back of the cereal box. regretably not all of them were part of the challenge approved list... still, I'm giving myself a passing score here. Disciplines of the hand: Crafting - DONE Sewing - Yeah... nope, didn't happen... Disciplines of the soul: Drawing - Somehow I lacked the time to practice as much... could be related to not having to commute for half of the challenge. But I managed to practice still. Tale teller - I was only able to DM one session, due to the players not being around, but that session was super fun for everyone. And after the sessions, I keep hearing good things about it from other persons (like the store employees, etc). Now, Imma go work on building my new challenge thread, ok? see ya there (will post a link as soon as its up)
  11. It looked like this: But at least we tried... Jokes aside, here is the graph. Congratulation on the win.
  12. duh... of course we made excel sheets and graphs... at least I did... graphs are cool, right? I used them for risk assessment before going into a fight... i.e.
  13. Well done, Hellfire club... We did our best, I think... Had we faced ANY other team this week, we would´ve succeeded. But you proved your might. Hats off to y'all. Lots of fun this mini. I still feel like maybe I should´ve picked walking as a superpower though... I did walk an excess of 1700 minutes this month... But since I wanted to focus on an aspect that would challenge me instead of one I knew I could dominate easily in... sigh, once again I prove to be my own downfall
  14. Answer to that would be Mexico, in case you ever feel like visiting.
  15. Well, that is reassuring to know. I usually tailor all my resumes for each job position I apply to. The one I wanted was marketing/graphic design related, thus the infographic resume. But so far I have not heard back from them... sigh.
  16. Oh I loooove me some fiction. But I am supposed to be reading the books I have not read yet that have been sitting on my bookshelves forever instead of re-reading books I´ve read at least 7 times before... Especially when said books trigger a chain reaction (I´m currently 25% through The source of magic, the second book of the series)
  17. It is a legit solution. People who live in humid and pretty hot places know. Also mentioned in the trailer for this great movie (around 2:20)
  18. Not due to a lack of wanting... mostly due to a lack of resources to invest. Alas, I am in no financial position where I could try setting up a startup business without worrying about making ends meet at the end of the week... and if it were just me, I´d go for it still... but with a wife (even though she kicks ass and usually earns more than I do) and kid... anyways, I tend to play it safe. I am doing great thanks! just trying to adjust to new schedule... wake up early, take the kid to school, go feed my parent´s cats (they travelled to chicago to visit my brother) and then kill time till I pick up the kid from school. So I´ve been cooking (and thus eating a little healthier than usual) and reading plenty more*... walking more too, since I walk about an hour to hour and a half every morning now... but I have not been very good updating my own thread... *I have not finished Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance... and even if it is a GREAT book, I am still halfway through the name of the wind... I´ve been misbehaving... I picked up (and have since finished) A spell for chameleon by Piers Anthony... not because I LOVE the xanth universe and wanted to REread that book for like 102398590th time... I swear it was not that. (not only that anyways). Remember how I am DMing for the little boys? this sunday I went in without ANY clue as to what to do with them... I mean, yes, I´ve got some of the current story arc planned, but for this session I drew a blank as to how to make them get close to the next step in my masterplan... So I "improvised". and by that I mean I borrowed some ideas from books I´m sure noone has read here (regretably mr Anthony is not very popular in mexico). But I digress. They took the plot hook and went to search for the good mage Humphrey... and now they need to cross the moat of his tower... So you see, reading the book was just research. I wanted to make sure they had the challenges to meet Humphrey just right. I can be a purist like that. So that´s my story and I´m sticking to it.
  19. And still, do not be surprised if at least one tries. The inability to perform a task means nothing when a friend is involved, it just means you offer to try instead...
  20. its alright. if you do not crave it, your body probably does not need it. skipping meat a day or two won't kill you anyways. and, yes… I sometimes go through phases where certain foods or ways of cooking are just not appetizing. Like going for months eating nothing with salt on it or craving pretty much nothing but cold tomatos, just out of the fridge with lime and salt. it happens. this "message" was brought to you through the ether using ero san's arcane magics (and a cellphone)
  21. I know the line is Trewest's accolades (I should know, as I seem to recall that line about you being the reincarnation of Helga Hufflepuff is of my authorship), but you are the one perpetuating the myth and legend of the barbarian assassin this "message" was brought to you through the ether using ero san's arcane magics (and a cellphone)
