  1. Hey strangers! This will be a real challenge thread by tomorrow, I promise. In the mean time, enjoy some home-rendered tallow.
  2. This post made me go to Amazon to check out knives. Look at this beauty for under $10:
  3. Wonderful form of exercise and useful skill to have in a pinch!
  4. Ouch! I've never been to culinary school, but their knife technique is probably the safest:
  5. I am going to throw left and right straights, which I am sure must count.
  6. P: 9 g, F: 2 g, C: 46 g, 200 kCal 70% retinol, 100% B-6 and 1,340% ascorbic acid RDAs. Totally legitimate snacking (and you probably experienced stomach distention and stopped eating well before 1 kg)
  7. Snoop a little, you'd be surprised at the non-mainstream options (unless you're on Inis Oírr or some other uninhabited place). I train at the national weightlifting team's gym, which is both government-subsidised and has zero machines or cardio devices. I never have to fight for rack space, and it's only $30/mo. "Always Evil", got it!
  8. Very brave, very nice. Hide the candy, keep carrots, capsicum and celery around. You can indulge anxiety and oral fixation while keeping your calories down and micronutrients up.
  9. Your coach is correct. Sarcoplasmic hypertrophy (muscle growth) occurs during recovery from physical exertion, not during the exertion itself (there is "pump" of size caused by a temporary increase in accumulated blood due to vasodilation, but this does not affect the size of individual fibers and disappears after an hour or two). Ideally, training is scheduled such that each muscle group gets at least 48 hours of rest for full recovery before it is trained again. This usually works out to training 3-4x a week. Three days a week gave me the back in my AV, gave this man his chest, this man his abdomen and he's over 50! Use your energy and excitement to get back to training to work on other aspects of your health on rest days. I'm sure he's been waiting for this day. Good luck!
  10. That's almost like the way to make channa. I have one thought. Pretty much every recipe that calls for regular ginger (Zingiber officinale) can be improved by adding somewhere between a half-to-equal amount of blue ginger (Alpinia galanga) cut in the same way. I've tried this with Tom Yum, steamed fish, ginger chicken and even gingerbread (men and snaps), and it's always been a great enhancement for depth of flavour. Blue on the right, regular ginger on the left. Try asking for "galangal" at your Asian market. For this recipe, I'd say an equal amount.
  11. So long as it changes over time, roughly reflecting what you see in the mirror, the accuracy should be fine. I also wanted to ask you if you were amenable to fooling around with a barbell for this part: It helps tremendously with raising BMR, and therefore helps with fat loss as well. Oh, and I also wanted to ask whether "Ginger" as a fantasy race has an "is always" alignment the way Sahuagin or Kender do.
  12. This sounds very much on-track! Good luck with your goal. How are you measuring bf?
  13. If you find marrowbones make sure you eat the marrow. These look really good! Have you considered casing them? It's easier than you'd think!
  14. One of my favourite things to eat! Check out Diana Kennedy's 3-ingredient (pork, salt, water) carnitas recipe for more porcine goodness.
  15. All you need to know about the Smith machine: Something that can help with the full pull-up if you're having trouble starting from a dead stop is working on just the eccentric portion. Try to jump and pull yourself at least 3/4 of the way up, then descend as slowly as you possibly can.
  16. This is a good thread! <----- I do have parts of my physique that I like.... ....but I've always thought my upper body looked completely deficient from the front. This guy is at least 30 lb lighter than me: But though I know it's completely irrational, I feel as though we look exactly the same:
  17. 67 left! I am always happy to share the joy of Begiragons! Since you liked Tokyo Train Game check out Convenience Store Game too:
  18. A pillow princess is the box in this picture:
  19. Great to see you again Missy! Happy New Year and good luck with all the goals. I will be subscribing for updates.
  20. What up, K! Happy New Year and great to see you back again! Let's own these goals. My challenge this time is nutrition-centric. Stop by my thread when you get a chance and check it out! Here is a vegetarian recipe to start you off:
  21. Your pictures show excellent progress already! You should feel great about you've already done. Some comments about this specifically, since that's the focus of my own challenge this time around: 1) TDEE goals are best calculated individually. Try using the calculator here for a closer estimate of your target, or even better, use the formula here and go through it by hand for an exact target. You may want separate targets for training and rest days. 2) "Clean eating" is a little bit of a fuzzy concept to nail down. Alan Aragon has some solid thoughts about the topic which I pretty much agree with. I think so long as you are avoiding trans-fats, artificial sweeteners, colourings and preservatives and hydrogenated oils, you'll be just fine. 3) If you're keeping carbs low, don't forget to replace them with fat at around a 1:2 replacement ratio (fat has ~9 kCal/g energy, carbohydrates ~4 kCal/g). There are innumerable wonderful options like coconut oil, peanut butter, bacon grease, butter, lard etc. You may also want to bump that protein number up just a little if you'll be training 3x weekly. 4) Carry your water bottle around with you, drink from it often, and refill it constantly and you can achieve hydration with no trouble. Good luck with your challenge and goals! I will subscribe for updates.
  22. Many people have a few extra pounds they can squeeze out by polishing up their form a little more. I know I certainly did! This is a training video for the dead I found helpful for my first challenge: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bWRTHOMq-n8 Good luck with your goals!
  23. These are excellent goals. Here is a motivational video for you: Good luck with your challenge!
