  3. As a noob, I like the idea of a mentor. It's tough to go this path alone (even Link knew this!), so knowing someone is checking up on you is nice. So far, everywhere I've posted, someone has responded or given some kind of input so that I know I'm not as socially awkward online as I am IRL. And I value the input - whether it's someone "liking" a post, or leaving a "good job"/"go get 'em"/"better luck next time." It lets me know that wherever I am on this journey, someone was here before me, someone else is in my same boat, and just like I'm receiving encouragement now, I want to share that same encouragement with the people who will come after me on this journey. Just the two cents' worth of a noob's opinion.

  5. Go to the main site page at http://www.nerdfitness.com- there's a place for you to enter your email with a little button that says "I'm in!" That's the signup for the emails
  6. You can do it!! That's a great plan to stretch every time you get up from your desk. If your office would permit it, another thing you can do is replace your desk chair with a stability ball. It works out your core, but you can stretch with it too.
  7. Hey FallenFaery! There's a setting you can click on if you're at a regular computer called "progress bar." You tell it what your progress is, and then the computer will create that bar.   9. Hi Glass, I really can't comment on any of the places you mentioned since I'm not familiar with your area. However, I can share with you my method for seeking out a dojo, which may or may not work for you: 1.) Make a list of five questions you want to ask an instructor about the style they teach, the dojo in general, and if adult beginners are welcome. In addition to these five questions, be sure to ask if they offer a free introductory class so you can try it out to see if you like it (most of the places I have visited did). 2.) Call or email each of the places on the list and ask your questions. See what type of a response you get. 3.) Make a list of the top three dojos and visit them during a class (You'll get a better idea of what a normal class is like, and if you have questions, there's usually someone who can either help you or point you in the right direction). 4.) If you don't feel comfortable at any of your top three dojos, make another list of top three and go visit those. Keep doing that until you find a place you feel comfortable, where you're confident in the instructor's knowledge, and where you feel like it's going to be worth your time and money to study.   14. Week 6 Challenge: I would like to join the monk's guild. I'm studying shotokan, and testing my limits in class every week allow me to see how I'm getting stronger. My strength isn't just a number I can lift, or a pace I can keep. It can also be measured in how well I can make my opponent lose their balance, or how well I'm able to adapt to a new technique. So, I want to be a monk.
  15. You are my hero right now! I started at 315 and am on my way to 180. It's encouraging to hear about someone who has been successful on a similar journey. Please keep us updated!
  16. Week 5: Preparations for Family day Cleaned my desk at work and got myself organized. [uPDATE:] followed suit by cleaning the bathroom, kitchen, and did all the laundry. I like my home again!
  17. I managed to pick up a cold someplace, and today is day two of it. Normally my old standbys are chicken soup or leek soup, but I recently went gluten-free/dairy-free. All my other recipes will require more energy from me to make than what I currently am willing to expend. Aside from plenty of OJ and hot tea, what do you eat while you're sick?
  18. People will tell me, too, that I'm "not fat," but in my case, it's blatantly obvious that I am. After a comment like that, I know they're feeling guilty about their own food choices, so I will respond with a gentle "Not tonight," or "Maybe next time." The gentle comments usually get them to move on to another subject, and when "next time" finally arrives, I simply repeat the same answers. And "next time" they usually make healthier choices. And when they make the comment "Where's your sense of adventure?" I will respond that I lost that 30 pounds ago. That usually gets them to stop talking altogether.
