  1. Congrats on the job interview! Keep us posted about it! And go Vols!
  2. Awesome progress so far! I love that you keep track of your wins/unwins (NOT losses!) daily (1/5, 2/5) to show yourself how many times you've been successful. I sometimes make things all or nothing, and lose sight of the small productive steps along the way. Your approach is MUCH better!
  3. Way to go on the strength goal! Sounds like you have a great tracking system, which makes it super easy to see your progress. Hopefully that rawr carries over and helps with your other goals. We're here to cheer (that was SO corny!)And ZOMG on the pumpkin pie. I MAY have just found the hack for my sweets cravings...
  4. Love the goals! Way to take some challenges and make yourself a better person from them! I'll be keeping up on your awesome progress
  5. Way to get out there and walk today! Huge progress on that goal already ( I like that it's so specific and measurable). And woot woot on the 200!
  6. Sounds like you're on the right trail so far! Congrats on the early morning workouts. I can't wait to hear about your accomplishments on the goals, especially the squats!
  7. Your goals are great and specific! That makes it easy to track and measure all your progress. I'm right there with you too on the binges; my worst come right when I get home from work. Stay strong; we're all in this together!
  8. Looks like you're off to a great start! I'm on the same page as you with the cheat plan. I have had a couple cravings so far, and I picked up a hack I'm trying: writing them down in my planner, then making sure to indulge them on Saturday (my cheat day). That gives me something to look forward to and I still feel like I'm not depriving myself. Just something to think about trying
  9. Three days into the challenge. Update time: - First workout of the week was Tuesday night; second one will be tomorrow after work. So far, so good. Goal for next week is to establish a bench maximum for my chart (I know my dead and squat max already). - Eating has been generally good. Easy to get breakfast shake in while packing food for work, and I have complete control over second breakfast and lunch at work as I bring them with me. I have grazed a little when I got home every day; Tuesday I felt this was ok as it was directly after my gym session. Yesterday was a little harder to justify. - NO ALCOHOL SINCE SUNDAY! Super proud of this as it is a BIG hurdle. Looking forward to a couple drinks on Saturday. Have to remember to keep it within reason. - No movement on the bass playing Next week, I'm going to start small: I will tune it and open the instructional book I already have to come up with a plan of attack. Side note: any Paleo/ Slow Carb people have hacks for sweet cravings? I've done a good job of cutting sugar and sweets out, but now am craving. I think I want to make some sugar free pudding with milk to handle these. Any other suggestions would be great. Thanks all!
  10. Jay I was thinking that today. IMO, it would be cool to have one big squad for the first timers so we can spread the love around.
  11. Cool, meaningful goals! I absolutely can relate to the binges; I have a way of eating super healthy during the work week then midlessly grazing on everything in sight on weekends. I'm trying a program with a one-day-a-week scheduled Cheat Day (come on, Saturday!). This would be the first week I've been able to make it work. I started writing down all my little cravings so I can sneak them in on Saturday (chocolate and craft beers so far, nomnom). Can't wait to follow your progress!
  12. I second wan2ride: keep us posted on the work project! And I'm right there with you on the waistline front (and back, and side...). I have a closet full of clothes that are two waist sizes smaller than I wear now. I'm looking forward getting back into them ASAP
  13. Chele, I remember trying to avoid the college food all too well! Our caf used to have fries and chicken fingers at EVERY meal (except breakfast, I think...). Fortunately they also used to have a salad station, so that helped. Hopefully you have some variety from day-to-day to spice things up. Stay with it; we're cheering for you!
  14. Lutzy, I hear the lower body strength part! I've always been bottom heavy (my squat is 315 and my dead is 365, while my bench has never broken 200 and I did sets of 155 yesterday). One of my desires is to gain some balance during the challenge and add to my upper-body. Keep at it! And props on the playing yesterday! Sounds like you're off to a great start!
  15. Jeepers, TOTALLY forgot this one: - Fit into 36-inch waist pants by start of Week 5. I'm currently wearing a 40. This is my biggest measurable goal and I will update frequently with progress! Starting waist measurement at navel: 42 inches. Here we go :x @thebody: thanks! I couldn't resist that picture!
  16. I'm SO in. Horray NF rookies! http://nerdfitness.com/community/showthread.php?5914-The-Five-Weeks-til-Tuxedo-Time-Challenge
  17. Hey gang! One of my best friends is getting married Weekend 5 (November 26th), so this challenge came at a PERFECT time. Here goes: Fitness/Diet - Maintaining a consistent strength training schedule. I'm combining elements of two training programs here, and my biggest obstacle so far has been keeping my schedule consistent weekly. I'm committing to one upper body day and one lower body a day. - Following a combination of Tim Ferris' Slow Carb diet (from "The Four Hour Body") and a mass-gaining diet. It's basically the Slow Carb, but adding in milk-based protein shakes first thing in the morning and after lifting. It also REQUIRES a cheat day, which leads to... - Keeping my love of Craft Beers and good martinis to my cheat day. This has been a HUGE derailer for me, as I like to crack open a beer Friday evening (ok, Thursday), and watch football with a case in the fridge all weekend. This is going to be my biggest challenge. Life - I have a bass guitar that has been sitting in my apartment untouched for the last three years. Instead of air guitar-ing along to songs, I want to learn the arpeggios so I can PLAY along to songs. I'm going to have to learn the notes and the chords as part of this, so this has the best chance of being my Epic Fail goal! Here's to NOT being the fattest guy in the wedding party come Week 5!
