  1. Hi Everyone...just wanted to let you know that because it is summer I wont really be posting or visiting much. I am completely out in the garden, out in nature, out with my two lovely teen daughters and husband living the wild adventure that we call our lives...it wicked rocks! I am still walking and exercising and eating well, but honestly the amount of work I do in the yard ( I grow a permaculture garden) and the amount of hiking I do locating wild foods, I don't really need to exercise..getting plenty of sunshine and fresh air and wild foods helps a ton too! If any of my dear nerdy friends wants to reach me I think the best thing to do is visit me on facebook. You can send a friend request but please also send a message and tell me you are from nerd fitness and your handle. I used to food blog and so get a lot of extranseous and sometimes commercial friend requests so I want to keep my page all friends....here is my click through to facebook ... Still doing the spring ahead/fall back challenge and knowing I will get into the best shape of my life, physically, mentally and spiritually--this is the level up summer and I am rocking and rolling it! big hugs to you all and tons of support from ME>>>>>>>!<<<<<<<<<< p.s. I will be back in the fall when the kids are back in school and the weather starts turning!
  2. Hola everyone....school completion is coming up, in fact today is christina's last day of classes and then two weeks of finals. Peter's mom is still on the mend from a fall and so working out going to the wilds of new england for a visit and balancing the kids etc. is taking a bunch of my time. I have been EXTREMELY tuned in to the energy of the world right now and especially nature and drawn to BE in nature and ground myself and plant seeds and wild forage and eat much more in the way of wild forage. I have also been doing quite a bit of cleaning out and organizing and preparing for a garage sale or ebay sale to make money to have a family vacation this summer. It is fun to plan things and this is very much where I like to spend my time, visualizing fun and adventure! I have been continuing to exercise and monday I did the 8's and a wonderful walk and stretch and tuesday I did interval dance cardio and a walk and stretch and balance work...today will most likely be interval full body tabata's and a walk and stretch...Promise!! Hope everyone is doing well on their journey....the sun is shining and so I am out the door! HUGS!
  3. things here are crazy right now but no excuses when it comes to escaping things! LOL will be riding my bike and kicking ass! Didn't get to last weeks challenge but that didn't mean I didn't challenge myself!
  4. I do hope you are feeling better. I make my own fresh ginger ale by taking seltzer/club soda and mixing it with some yogi ginger tea or putting in a fresh piece of ginger. Another settler is fennel tea or chamomile. If you feel like your tummy is nauseaus it is different from upset/acid....in that case the weirdest thing works--take 1 tbs of apple cider vinegar (braggs is best) and mix it with 4 oz. of fresh water and drink it down--for some reason that balances the acid... best of luck!
  5. I follow archevore/primal but the concept can be the same when it comes to your grocery list. Think outside the box. First, even if you live in the desert you can have access to the most important puzzle piece, grass fed or pastured protien. That is your corner stone--cheap things such as EGGS, chicken and random meat cuts with bone in help. There is nothing better than grass fed beef neck bones slow roasted or braised in your dutch oven. finding wild food has always been cheaper. Get a good book on wild foraging in your area (my friend lives in the high desert and can still find wild forage)...the energy of those foods is amazing and so is the nutriton and its FREE....a great website to start with is called eat the weeds--google it... Cutting out processed foods and sugar is key and doing that saves you money. Heck, a potato costs less than potato chips and a baked potato with grass fed butter (kerrygold is a great brand), a few eggs and some wild greens is an amazingly nutritious meal... outside the box baby....is the way to go...think of the "concepts" and not of the lists....WHOLE foods...period...simply prepared...and you will rock it! Best of luck!
  6. Welcome goddess! I love that this happened and is so rare many generations will go by before it is seen again...that is wicked rocking cool!
  7. Dude, the roller is god....seriously--the pain sucks but the results are awesome! You can also do it with a lax ball for very specific focus...not only is doing stretches important but doing external hip rotation exercises and strengthening will also help.
  8. LOL unless i am walking on asphalt, I am wearing the shoes the universe gave me...aka bare feet!
  9. Since both my mother and my grandmother had osteopenia and degenerative bone disease I did a lot of research to make sure that I had healthy bones. The most important thing currently being discussed in the literature is that someone can lay down new bone if they are eating enough magnesium, D3 and K2...weight bearing exercises are key but over doing it can stress joints and cause stress fractures. Getting the person on a program of walking, balance, core, maybe even rebounding would be good and make sure she is NOT taking a ton of calcium supplements but getting calcium through food and if necessary take magnesium supplements, get direct sunlight or take D3 supplements and eat some form of probiotics or take K supplements....then build up to weights...you can google all this stuff and the people who wrote naked calories the woman had bad oseoporosis at 30 due to eating low fat, stress, high carb and partying a lot--she turned it around using healthy food and weight bearing exercise plus supplements. Best of luck figuring it out!
  10. Hola, life is getting into a great flow for us and that is awesome especially since so much needs doing and everyone is striking out in their own directions with little need for assistance. I love when everyone gets into their own flow! I have a bit of a rash on my chest that I think started from a bit of sunburn last weekend and now it is itching so trying some homeopathic remedies and herbs to alleviate that. Today on my walk I found 3 different wild plants that I brought home and now will figure out where to plant them. Yesterday instead of exercising I spent a lot of time cleaning things out and getting organized which is part of my challenge and so that felt very good. Today when Christina got home from school we decided to do timed beginner body weight with embelishments as follows: 20 BW squats reach for the sky touch the floor 10 push ups-different hand position each time 20 alternate lunges--did some jump lunges too 10-15 lb bent row 5 sets ab combo (2 crunches, two twists, two knee lifts) 30 Jumping jacks last round 20 JJ and 10 floor touch plyo jumps we did 3 rounds in 12:38--then went on long walk with 2 hills, did some stretching and some balance poses... Have a GREAT weekend everyone!
  11. LOL my grandfather was a master dyer and I love to do dying so much! Raising your vibration is really about getting into the thought and body process of love and finding your joy. The more you love, the more you love yourself, the more you love others, the more you are of service to others, the higher your vibration and the more you allow your own soul to operate through your body...easy as pie You asked about working on negative self talk and the best exercise for that is to get a little book and for a day or so you write down EVERY single negative thing you say to yourself in your head. Then you read it over--and really think if it is true--of course it ISNT true--and you only believe it because you hear it so much--then, you have to write down a positive thing for EVERY negative. If you say you can't think of anything then you really have to try and work on that--even if you have to say things like, my index finger is nice...then say that--but keep at it--then instead of writing those things down--when you realize your negative self talking, say loudly--STOP (in your head) and DELETE...then say something positive in your brain...replace the negative with positive over and over and stop watering the seeds of negativity--if you do something good--then mentally comment on it--give yourself props whenever you can! Try that...it works==hugs balance buddy!
  12. Memorial day weekend and sam coming home from college really screwed with the routine, but I have been continuing to work out as best I can but I haven't been posting to my blog. Yesterday was full body weight workout and I had my "friend" and so christina and I did the sixes which are the slow low rep exercises push ups squats 30 pounds bent rows-15 pounds weighted bridge butt pinches-30 pounds competition sit ups 10 reps we did it in 13:32 and then we went to my moms and went swimming and doing under water jumping and walking and push offs and had a great time! did a little stretching too. Been doing a lot of work in the yard which also counts for exercise and grounding and connection with nature which is like meditation for me--did some balance poses as well. Today we wanted to go to the movies and see dark shadows so christina and I got into the freestyle dance cardio routine to greenday 12 minutes 50/10 and then did some stretching before we went to the movies...it was pretty funny! Hugs all--
  13. nerd boy, I love how introspective you are...I personally feel to be a good parent, wife, mother, sister, brother, worker, friend you MUST treat yourself with love and kindness and respect and give yourself everything you would give to the ones you love. You are your sole vehicle for your soul...so take care of it! can you get in the best shape of your life--certainly....
  14. Gemeaux you sweet angle of light. I LOVE this and it makes me feel so wonderfully happy! We are wrapping up our girl scout troop where we volunteered for years and did so as well with my other troop for years as well. We had our final party and we had some money left over from that and so we are going to go to the store this week and purchase baby items and then grab gently used clothing for donation to the Family Service League to support those who need help supporting their family. I love the family service league because they will take with open arms any donation of time, money, items, anything you have is freely given to the people who need those things. Ghandi said, BE the difference you wish to see in the world. From my personal perspective being of service in any way possible and spreading your love and unique skills to the world at this present time could NOT be any more important. Bright girl, shining light--thank you for posting this!
  15. It is so strange to me because I actually started standing because it eased my back pain. I stand almost all day long and it is only when I SIT down that I get sciatic area pain. could it be you are using new muscles and that once they get strong you will feel better? doing cat and dog stretch on your hands and knees after work along with wag the tail side to side can help stretch the area out-as can doing C stretch. You can also stand in horse stance from judo-feet spread slightly toes forward then contract the abs and tuck the tail bone under and fully relax the spine so it feels like it is simply hanging. Best of luck!
  16. Come on folks!!! Hey nerd boy, when you coming to new york next?
  17. LMAO oooooogggie....I can just see you at one end and your hubs at the other--pull, push, pull....hehee...awesome! Athena, great info--my mom is a midwife and its always nice to have a great source of info!
  18. Hi Shadow! Awesome to have you here with us Adventurers and glad you are making choices that are moderate so you can take it slow. Slow or not, any positive change done consistently will bring about momentum and pretty soon you will be fit-gaining like crazy! All the best on your journey! Alex
  19. Twice I have punked out and did a side shave with spiked top. I even did it the second time after having my second child cause I was a momma but I was still rock and roll. It is so easy and freeing and wonderful. That said, if you don't like it it grows on you
  20. Fourth it. I basically eat warrior style and have for a very long time and I can really help out here. The issues with IF are very different from other programs and IF can change other programs as well so it would be awesome to have a tiny forum or sub forum. I know you have been combining and feng shuiing around here but sometimes you gotta put something as its OWN species...just sayin...p.s. thanks for all you do staci!
  21. One of the best primal diets out there in my personal estimation is at www.archevore.com. No I dont get paid to promote it LOL but I do that a LOT because it makes sense to me and helps when you have issues with full on paleo. Best of luck and stay safe and get fit!
  22. Woot woot! congratulations! My husband did the same thing in his junior year but went back a year later and graduated a semester after me. When you grab at the brass ring half heartedly and miss it while someone else gets it it can haunt you. So GLAD you went back because you simply screwed up and sometimes in life, those are the TIMES that define us....and make us realize what is important. I know it did for peter who went on to get his MBA while working full time and us starting a family and he got almost a 4.0!!!! You so totally ROCK grad!
  23. Isn't it weird? I will eat raw freaking fish covered in roe and seaweed but I have never even tried sardines...I think I might get some and try them. I will NOT cook them in this house because I have one child who is very smell sensitive. If anyone wants anything but tilapia we eat it out--since we live on an island that is cool--so, what type of canned ones are good and how would you prepare them? I am primal so butter would be fine..
  24. remember, the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Lao Tzu said something like that. EVERY step you make in the positive direction is a great one! Keep it up and pretty soon you will be RUNNING!
