  1. Hello, My girlfriend is a rheumatologist and she's interested in learning about the paleo diet. When we first started dating, she was shocked when I told her I lost 70 pounds on the paleo diet by eating only whole foods. I usually avoided the topic because you know how doctors and skeptics can get about fat making you fat and all that crap... Anyway, she is more and more interested and I want to buy her a book or 2 to get into the subject. I was thinking about "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Taubes and the "The Paleo Solution" by Wolf. Is this a good start, are there any better books or resources?
  2. I seen my doctor for the first time in years. I told him about my weight loss and healthy changes. Then diet came up and we started to disagree. I told him I was eating "meat and vegetables, paleo". He had the typical opinion of low fat/high carb and how I needed grains for carbs/fibre, and dairy for calcium. I didn't really feel like getting into it with him. I feel like whenever I try to explain paleo to low fat advocates, it's like arguing with a Republican, just exhausting and any amount of good reason or common sense will get you nowhere. So what do you think is the best ELI5 (Explain Like I'm 5) way to get them to understand?
  3. Is there a way to lose fat and build muscle at the same time? From my understanding it doesn't make sense. One one hand you need to have a calorie deficit to lose fat, and on the other hand you need to increase your calories to put on muscle. I'm 5'9. I weigh 195. I still have about 20 or 25 pounds of fat to lose so I can be slim. I've lost about 40 pounds in the last 8 months by: -strength training 3 times a week. Mostly "core" exercises like squats, dead lifts, presses, pulls, etc... -Eating paleo I'm stronger, and more toned, but my muscles aren't that much bigger. So I'm looking to to add on some real muscle. Is this possible? Or should I wait until I lose that last 20 pounds and then start a muscle building exercise and diet routine?

  9. Anyone who says Grains are good/ok/fine or "being unfairly demonized" are just blind and ignoring the facts and I don't waste any of my time with them. (I guess I wasted 1 minute reading and replying to this )
