  1. Last week was fine. This week I would say is not going amazing. I have been eating out a lot and they're all pretty much B and C grade meals as far as healthy goes. I'm too stressed and pumped to get on a plane Saturday. I'm also so busy I don't have time for the gym. That doesn't really give me a good excuse to not be working on my pushups. I just haven't been. I don't know why I can't get into a routine of exercising just in my house. It stinks. Meanwhile, the Korean studying is going well. I'm on Quizlet pretty regularly trying to memorize vocab. So, at least I'm motivated for that.
  2. When I get sick I want to eat all the things and sick, because my body is probably begging for it. Better to do that and get better than to tough it out and be sick for a while.
  3. My going into Seoul to run and hang out turned into sleeping overnight in Seoul and having a hangover this morning. Totally worth it. Yesterday I did a weigh-in at the gym and discovered I am down about 3 pounds. My measurements are mostly down from last month, too. So, hurray for progress. I ate my second "unhealthy" meal today: curry udon. I also had affogato while I studied. BUT DINNER WAS AMAZING salmon on a salad. Very good for me. Also I hit my 10k steps today regardless of how long I was in bed this morning. So...yay! Tomorrow I will do better. I plan on getting up at a reasonable time, doing a practice TOPIK test, painting, lifting, and taking a hike. I'm also going to see Jurassic World tomorrow night, and I WILL NOT HAVE JUNK FOOD.
  4. THE MERS HIT MY TOWN. Which means a couple of doctors have it, but they shut down my school for the week. So I'm not really working (going in for a bit tomorrow to help make homework packets but that's it.) Why do you care? I went on a two hour hike today on a nearby mountain I always meant to check out. So, day 1 I decided to have myself an "unhealthy" meal: 1 of 4 this week. I'm okay with that. I didn't have much of a lunch. In addition because of days not going to work I will do my weights early then go into Seoul tomorrow for a run and hanging out with new friends. Who am I? This weird woman who weight lifts and runs? 18 year-old me would not know her.
  5. I have the same Korean Grammar in Use book, but it's finished. Good on you for making your place clean. I don't know how you sleep on the futon thingy. I require cloud sleep.
  6. I looked up what it means to be Paleo beyond like...not eating grains or rice and I'm not sure about this after all. No legumes? WTF. Me and my lentils and chick peas would like to talk about this. No peanut butter? Get out of town. No oatmeal? I knew this already but ... but... yeah I think "Go 80/20 Paleo" is actually going to be "go 80/20 healthy and hit my macros."
  7. I'll look that one up. I've been printing the tests from the website then taking them. I need to level up my vocabulary to pass, basically...but decent vocab books are few and far between.
  8. Ok. I've been doing power lifting routines in my gym for like...2 months now. I'm trying to level up my lifts and make my muscles bigger. It's a slow process, but I love it. I also love how many people don't realize how strong I am. I prove them wrong. Main Quest: Get Stronger I will continue to lift. Deadlift. Bench. Squat. I don't have specific lifting goals at this moment. Since I'm going on a trip to the USA it will interrupt my lifting abilities, but I will work on bodyweight during that time instead. I'm really hoping it won't hurt my working weight once I get back. The GOAL is to see measurable increases in strength via higher weights on the bar and the ability to do push ups better. Quest 1: Power Up My Push Up I've never been able to do a strict push up. I'm going to do a program found in the vast depths of Google (ok I lied it was on the first page) to get myself to start doing "real" push ups instead of lady push ups. Quest 2: Eat Well I guess I don't have a nifty name for this. I'm not going to deny myself yummy American food while I'm Stateside, so this is a 2-part goal. Eat 80% / 20% Paleo healthy while I'm in Korea, focusing on veggies, fruit, protein, and healthy fats. Eat 50% Paleo healthy while I'm in the USA. This shouldn't be horrible since 7/13 days in 'Murica is going to be hiking with the fam in the backwoods. So, much trail mix, dried fruit, and jerky shall be consumed. Quest 3: Step it Up I want to get myself moving more and keep my weekly step goal over 90k. This means about 12,860 steps per day. Life Goal Quest: Ace the TOPIK I'm planning on taking the Korean proficiency test at an Elementary level next month. Registration is next week. I haven't decided on how to measure my progress on this, but I will be doing a lot of studying. Alllllll the vocabs. Maybe these quests aren't very warrior-y ... but I'm a warrior so here I be!
  9. Don't beat yourself up if you can't workout on your period. It's stressful for some ladies. However if you're feeling bloated or crappy you probably should at least go for a walk. Coddling yourself won't help and I always feel better if I have cramps or feel bloated and then I go to the gym or go on a brisk walk.
  10. Herro, I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I joined a while back but I wasn't very good at keeping up on the forums. I had someone teach me some basic training for strength, but since they won't be going to the gym with me anymore I'm on my own for keeping it up. I've been doing a 3-day split for about a month. Sometimes I do cardio on off days especially if I'm too tired (or hungry) after lifting to stay on a treadmill/elliptical for longer than 20 minutes. This is what my former mentor had me set up for: Day 1: Chest Press - 30kg 12x3 Incline Press - 10kg 12x3 Seated Flyes - 15kg 12x3 Bicep Curls - 10kg 12x3 Crunches - 20x3 Day 2: Lat pulldowns - 25kg 12x3 Cable Rows - 30kg 12x3 Back Extensions - 15x3 Tricep pressdowns - 15kg 12x3 Leg Raises - 15x3 Day 3: Shoulder Press - 5kg 12x3 Lateral Raises - 4kg 12x3 Barbell Squats - 10kg 12x3 Leg extensions - 35kg 12x3 Leg curls - 30kg 12x3 I did my first bar squats this past Saturday (woot!) and I'm looking forward to learning to deadlift and do more free weights. I'm hoping the friendly trainers in my gym will show me or tell me if I'm screwing it up. I really don't want to get hurt because I'm doing an exercise incorrectly. Today is Day 1 with no gym buddy. Hopefully it goes well!
  11. Late late late! I've been away. I'd like to join to set a goal to be able to do a push-up from the floor. Just one! I've never done one! I almost got there last year but I usually can't get back up once I go down. I think this will work into my quest for my challenge to do more strength training. Ideas?
  12. How's the sleep thing going? I always think about making my nighttime routine a little more regular but it's always sporadic.
  13. Hello! Let's look t how I did last week...I just got back from vacation abroad. Quest 1: Cardio 3x/week 100% I walked in the airports with my backpack strapped on until my Fitbit buzzed and told me it was okay to sit down. I also walked at night around the island before going to bed and went snorkeling or scuba diving nearly every day...so I don't have exact times for all that but I certainly got a lot of cardio exercise going. Quest 2: 100% You can't imagine the confusion on a person's face when you ask for a sandwich in the airport without cheese. Or ask for coffee with soy milk. Resisting seafood stone fire pizza was hard but I hard tuna steak instead (boo hoo). Quest 3: 0% FAIL I didn't get around to doing ANY body weight training while on vacation. I had every intention of doing planks and squats but I didn't didn't make myself do it. Swimming and relaxing in beach-side restaurants with a book were just too tempting to keep doing to get myself to do anything harder. Life Goal: no progress. I didn't get to sit down and study any Korean while I was away, but I still have the rest of the challenge to get in my 20 independent hours. I know I can do it! @superbicycletony I listen to TalktomeinKorean.com too. Even when they talk about a grammar point I know I still listen to the episode to catch new stuff. It's pretty usefull.
  14. Oops I double posted. I haven't used a forum in a very long time.
  15. Yeah I haven't been very motivated the last few months. Actually going to get stuff done has been hard. I know enough Korean to get around and have rudimentary conversations. I want to get good enough to be able to talk to and understand people without struggling.
  16. Introduction Hi, I'm a elementary teacher in South Korea. It's pretty easy to sit at my desk and do nothing when I'm not teaching, though we do have a rock climbing wall and pool in our school that I can use. I like to swim, rock climb, scuba, do spinning classes, and hike. I joined because I'm already planning on trying to lose some more weight to get closer to my long term goal at 160lbs. Main Quest I want to reach 174lbs before the end of March, so my goal is to lose 15lbs on this challenge. It's a simple starter goal before I decide what hardcore stuff I want to work on later. Quest 1: Cardio exercise at least 30 minutes 3x per week. This can be treadmill, elliptical trainer, spinning, or swimming. 60 minutes on one day does not mean that is 2 days of exercise. (24 workouts) Measurement: A = 18 B = 14 C = 12 Reward: A = +3 STA B = +2 STA C= +1 STA Quest 2: No dairy, because I'm lactose intolerant and it messes with my digestion. (I don't count butter but then I don't eat it much anyway.) Measurement: A = 0 Servings B = 1 serving C= 2 servings Reward: A = +3 CON B = +2 CON C = +1 CON Quest 3: Weight train or body weight train at least 2x per week. This is to prime my muscles for later work. (12 times) Measurement: A = 12 B = 9 C= 8 Reward: A = +3 STR B = +2 STR C = +1 STR Life Goal: Self-study Korean 20 hours total. This does not include class time or listening to pod-casts. This is sitting down and studying either alone or with a friend. It's only a little over 3 hours per week. Measurement: A = 20 hours B = 16 hours C= 14 hours Reward: A = +3 WIS B = +2 WIS C = +1 WIS Motivation: I might want to do a hiking trip sometime in the future and travelling in general is easier when you're fit. This first challenge might be a little hard for me since I'm going on vacation from Jan 7~13th buuuuut since I'm going to scuba and snorkel I should get a lot of swimming done
