  1. Thanks Draken50! That's good advice! Naturally, I've been hesitant to do squats and lunges because of my knee, but I know those are great body weight exercises.
  2. I have the same problem! I usually eat breakfast once I get to work since I'm not much of a morning person and can't eat right after I wake up. This morning I brought 1/2 of yam, cubed, sprinkled with some pumpkin pie spice and nuked it in the microwave for 5 mins. Turned out awesome! I added a hardboiled egg too for protein points.
  3. Hey folks, I've got minor scoliosis (tiny curvature of the spine, barely noticeable) and my physiotherapist let me know that I've got some weakness of the Iliotibial band on my left side that has caused some effed up knee problems. Anyone have recommendations on completing body weight exercises like squats and lunges for someone who is terrified of hurting their knee? If anyone has hurt their knee, they know it sucks donkey farts. Thanks!
  4. Made this for dinner last night! I choose to bake the meatballs instead of fry them though for some +health bonus. I've never made meatballs without breadcrumbs before so I was worried about them holding it together without crumbling but they stayed meatball-shaped better than my usual recipe!! WIN!
  5. Hi All! I'm really super new here and I'm just in the beginning stages of the Academy (still in Mindset), but I wanted to get involved in this first challenge right off the bat. I'm going to try and follow the tenant of starting small though, so my goals aren't going to be huge changes for now. For the next 6 weeks I will: 1. Go to bed before 11:00pm every night Why? I get less than 6 hours of sleep every night and that's baaaaaaaaad. I want to be able to fight zombies, but I can't if I'm one of them. 2. Drink (at least) 16oz of water per day. Why? That doesn't seem like a lot of water, but often I'm not even drinking one glass per day. This is super important for me considering I have no large intestine and get dehydrated faster and easier than normal people. That's right, I'm a mutant. 3. I will lose 12lbs by the end of 6 weeks. Why? 12lbs is a healthy and realistic goal for weight loss in 6 weeks. I'd love to lose more, but I don't want to push it and fall off the wagon! 12lbs would be great! What am I going to do to achieve my goals? I will make a conscious commitment to be in bed before 11:00pm by completing my before-bed routine by 10:30 at the latest. I will keep a water bottle on my desk during the day and commit to taking a drink every 30 minutes. I will commit to eating paleo for at least 2 meals a day, and supplement my 3rd meal with paleo friendly-foods at every opportunity. I will avoid foods with sugar added. My ultimate goal is to reach a healthy weight of 160lbs, which would be a 70lb weight loss in 1 year.
  6. Thanks TMedina! Slow and steady is really something I have to force myself to remember and adjust to. I'm trying to avoid the "too much, too soon" mentality that has caused me to fail before!
  7. Hey friends, Newb here! Believe it or not, I'm here because I discovered Nerd Fitness on Reddit, in the Loseit board. I LOVE the ideas and philosophies of this site and I'm really excited to begin this journey back to getting healthy, happy and a good weight for me. Looking hot would also be an awesome fringe benefit! A bit about me, I'm a 32 year old female, from the beautiful city of Vancouver, Canada. My nerd-loves include gaming, reading, spending way too much time on Pinterest and Reddit, and crafting. I work in HR, and I pretty much sit at a desk all day. Exciting! I've signed up for the Academy and chose the Assassin as my class. I'm chomping at the bit to get going on the challenges! I've started and stopped the whole fitness/weight loss thing a bunch of times and I'm so desperate for this to be the last time. I want this to be the success story of my life. I've suffered from some pretty serious health issues, and I'm sure poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle have helped shape that significantly But, not dwelling on the negatives of the past, I'm looking ahead to a brighter (fitter) future! Thanks for having me here!
