  3. OK, so here's my first week in review! (See also my Daily Battle Log) 1. Bedtime goal This was a big stuggle, although two days I was somewhat close.. 3:00 AM.. 11:45 PM.. 11:30 PM.. 12:00 AM.. 12:45 AM.. 2:15 AM.. 3:00 AM I think the problem is that I'm trying to do this cold turkey, which is not a great method for me. I'm going to try and turn it into a positive: at 10 pm I'm going to read a comic book. That way, I'm taking a step in the right direction (not using screens an hour before bedtime) but doing it in a positive way I could look forward to. I made myself a pile, ready to go tonight! 2. Eating goal I only ate out at the restaurant twice during the first week, which is fantastic! However, twice I skipped breakfast because I slept in, which I want to avoid. I also had brunch at a restaurant with friends on Sunday, which I do pretty much every week, so I think I'll have to tweak that part of the goal, since it's an important social time for me. 3. Walking goal This one's going quite well.. I averaged 9,355 steps per day over the first week. I'm realizing that there are a lot of opportunities to walk, so it's a matter of making that conscious decision to do so
  4. Sunday 25 January 2015 Bedtime last night - 3:00 am (Netflix-The Interview) Breakfast - skipped Brunch - restaurant with friends Supper - soup and crackers (at home) Steps - 9,994 Monday 26 January 2015 Bedtime last night - 1:15 am (Royal Rumble) Breakfast - coffee shop Lunch - club sandwich Supper - none (late lunch) Steps - 9,286 Tuesday 27 January 2015 Bedtime last night - 11:15 pm Breakfast - coffee shop Lunch - club sandwich Supper - chicken fingers (at home) Steps - 6,710 Wednesday 28 January 2015 Bedtime last night - 1:30 am (Netflix-Tommy Boy) Breakfast - eggs & bacon Lunch - steak & rice Supper - steak & rice Steps - 9,762
  5. Aw, thanks, Cathelas! Hang in there.. we can make it together, and better late than never!
  6. When I can do it, the screen curfew works so well. Apparently the blue light of screens mimics the sun's light and thus confuses the body away from its impending natural rest. When screens are off, there's nothing much else to do except read and listen to vinyl records for me.. my phone has a screen, so I can't really call people. Although I do read a lot on the internet (which draws me in with its immediacy) there's few pleasures in life like a good book. It also helps me catch up on my embarassingly large backlog of comic books!
  7. Wow, thanks tmac! That's such a profound truth.. albeit sort of hidden in plain sight! If I stay up very late I do indeed eat and drink unhealthy things. Thanks for the journal articles.. I'll take a look at them! I had an old friend who was pretty active in Cocaine Anonymous, and he loved the HALT acronym.. not to make decisions when you're Hungry, Angry, Lonely, or Tired.. and to avoid getting into that state in the first place!
  8. Thanks Batgirl! I just get so hooked in to games.. a priest (who's a gamer) told me a couple years ago that video games are specifically designed to make you keep playing by dangling that next little plot twist or collectible in front of you.. it's so true for a lot of games
  9. Raced my 10-year-old today.. yeah, he won! :)

Salmon is truly one of my favorite things about life.

  13. Hi Cassandra! Glad you're enjoying the Krav Maga.. I had a buddy in the UK who was simply crazy about it! Every time I see the word "assassin" I immediately think of Assassin's Creed!
  14. great to see you getting to your sleep goals, Diglett! It's so amazing to me that we have all these technologies and whatnot and yet we still can neglect such a basic human need!! (it's one of my goals during this challenge too!)
  15. way to go, Baron! you're on the right track to being a Dunedain, I'd say! (not that I'm on the Dunedain selection committee or anything.. some fellow named Strider takes care of that..) It really is amazing how much we crave sugar and then realize, after stopping it, what a bad effect it has on our bodies!!
