  1. Day 3 - More Bananas So, I did not start of the day right - I stayed up way too late the previous day (like 12:30am). Since I normally get up at 5:00am, this is not a good thing. This is an example of self-sabotage for me. This threw most of the day off, and normally, this would have tanked the day completely. I navigated through the storm, and the end of the day came out well. I'm not eating very healthy while Ms. Moros is gone, and I need to get back to healthier patterns. Taco Bell is not a good long-term strategy for me Part of it is that I am still fighting off a cold, and it's slowing me down. I'm not invoking plague protocols, but I am working from home today (Day 4). Food Points: 24 Exercise Points: 19
  2. Days 1 - 2 - A little frenzied So, things were a little scrambled. I had an exam to give, which eats a lot of time. As a teacher, I will say that giving exams is as fun as taking one. I expect no one to be sympathetic, but it is actually true: Also, more seriously, Ms. Moros is in Texas, taking care of her mom. Her mom had a planned knee replacement surgery Monday morning. It went well, but obviously there is a painful rehab period, and so Ms Moros will be down there for at least a week, maybe more. So, I am home, trying to keep our cats from eating me. I did do my yoga on Monday, and all of my food logging. This morning, I woke up with really oochy tummy, and it was hard to do much of everything. I'm going to have to track this, since stomach upset is a common issue for me. I will not be posting those logs, however Food Points: 16 Exercise Points: 17
  3. Welcome back! You have always been one of my idols on the rangers - I'm just a few years younger than you, and just want to complete an OCR without serious injury. I'm glad to hear that self-care is at the top of your list.
  4. So the Better Brain Solution is a paleoish diet (low carb, lean proteints, lots of vegetables), but is focused on keeping brain function up. So, I find the book being sort of double-motivation. Some changes that I have made is slightly increasing my Vitamin D intake, and adding a lot more omega-3s. It seems to be helping my concentration. The link is at: https://www.amazon.com/Better-Brain-Solution-Age-Resistance-ebook/dp/B071KRYFCM/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1549853357&sr=1-1&keywords=better+brain+solution A lot of the other parts are very Nerd Fitness, but there are some other things. For example, I have bought some Matcha Tea to try.
  5. Hey Everyone! Things got slightly out of control last challenge. Not terrible, just out of control: Recently, I have received one of those signs from the universe - you know, when your wife, your counselor, your friends, some random people off the street, and small children say the same thing: YOU NEED TO GET SOME HELP FOR THINGS. So, my theme is about asking for help, and giving help to others. So, my fitness goals are pretty much unchanged, except that I will be on the forums more to give support when I can, and be a little less coy about my own stuff. Currently, I am really struggling with recording my food. I get a few days of recording in, then it all blows up. It's pretty clear that I have a lot more emotions about food than I would like to admit. Since food is 80% of the battle at Nerd Fitness, this is something I really need to work on. I also need to check in more often, so that I am accountable to everyone and myself. Details of the challenge are below the fold.
  6. Week 3 Wrap-Up - Life got in the way, but I am still here So, I didn't post a lot this week, because I had three big issues come up. The first was a personal one, but it was a really good thing. So, it disrupted my posting schedule, but I don't really mind. I had a PAPERWORK DISASTER of the epic variety, which created all sorts of downstream stuff: The third was a really cool event we do at my school, which was great, but took a lot of my weekend. More later... Edit: My week 3 points are: 136 Exercise, 125 Food. I'm not thrilled with these numbers, but I am still moving forward, and things should get less crazy soon (crosses fingers).
  7. Week 2 Wrap-Up: Progress through the craziness So, as mentioned previously, this week was the first week of a new semester for me. Normally, this week is chaos, and exhausting. I did do a lot more exercise this week than I would normally do: Did all my morning Yoga Did two hours of Yoga with Ms. Moros during the snowpoclypse on Saturday. We got around 8 inches of snow in 24 hours. We did a lot de-cluttering, including moving many books around on Sunday. Things that need improvement: My food logging is not very regular. There is a lot of little kid stomping my feet about this, but it's something I need to understand, work with, and overcome. I don't have a good routine for some of the other things I am doing, like reading the "Better Brain solution" book, and making sure I eat enough Omega-3s. Still, a much better first week of classes than I used to have: Food Points: 70 Exercise Points: 102 In honor of MLK:
  8. 1. I'm so glad you are feeling better, and things are beginning to process. 2. I'm very glad to hear that Sra. Tanque is ok, and your car is fixable. 3. We both know that there is competition for the Breakfast Taco capitol of the world All joking aside, I know things are tough, but you are clearly rangering it as you always do. \salute
  9. Day 9 - Pretty Tired, but nailed it today So, a good day overall. Woke up, did odd walking in place, and stayed focused. Did a lot of needed paperwork, which at least clears the mental decks. Did some planning for the de-cluttering/self-care challenge me and Ms. Moros was doing. Had a healthy lunch, with wraps, chicken, lettuce, and other stuff. We had quinoa stuffed sweet potatoes for dinner. Then, as planned, we swam some laps at the pool. I also found out that my local Y has free yoga classes that I could be going to: I will probably try them out with Ms. Moros, and see how they compare. Even if they are not as good as "Awesome Yoga Place" that I already go to, free is nothing to sneeze at.
  10. I want to say that this looks amazing, and I may have to sell everything to try it some time...
  11. I'm sorry to hear your trip got cancelled, but I'm glad it was for a good reason! The pictures were also a lot of fun! My wife and I are on the Marie Kondo bandwagon as well, but I got a Kindle copy of the book It's interesting to see how my friends are completely of two worlds - some love it, and some hate it.
  12. Day 8 - Back to school, tired, but better So, today was the first day of the semester, but I did get my morning exercises in, and had over 9,000 steps. Managed to do legs up the wall. I am pretty tired, so I will do points later, but I can tell a difference in my mobility, and I'm in less pain than I usually would be. That is real progress. Edit: Exercise Points: 62, Nutrition Points: 51
  13. Days 5 - 7 - Week 1 Wrap-up So, things are going ok. On Friday and Saturday, I did some more challenging yoga, and worked a lot on my class preparation. The semester starts again on Monday. My food tracking fell down on Friday and Saturday, so I need to re-boot that. I did get in some better food, and Ms. Moros made a new recipe with quinoa - https://www.lazycatkitchen.com/quinoa-superfood-salad/ So, I'm a little down, because I could have used another week to rest up and prepare, but that's not in the cards. So, I will have to ranger on, and possibly start growing a beard Food Points: 43 / 86 Exercise Points: 53/73 Pretty funny, but definitely NSFW:
  14. Day 4 - Moros 1 - Yard of Beef 0 So, a friend gave us a "Yard of Beef" from Hilshire Farms for the holidays. I have officially finished it. Thank Aragorn.. . It's pretty ice where I live, so instead of walking, I did retro-like walking in place to YouTube videos. Heartrate was elevated. I'm pretty tired from work, so I will do points tomorrow.
  15. Doh! Hope it levels out soon. Money stuff is always aggravating...
  16. Day 3 - Better Recovery So, today was much better. Got some decent sleep, woke up at 5am as planned, and then did Sunrise Yoga. Went to work, actually accomplished stuff, and here I am. I even recorded all of my food. Total Points: 28/22
  17. Day 2- Taco Bell: 1, Moros: 0 So, yesterday was not my best day. Due to a cold/ear ache, I woke up at 3:25am, and could not get back to sleep. So, I was out of it most of the day. I did walk for about 10 minutes, but otherwise was not very successful. Taco Bell was had, which is not good for me in general. (skipped many gross memes to find): Total Points: 19/14 - The first number is the exercise stuff, and the second is the food stuff. I'm breaking it out this way for a while, so I can make sure they get balanced.
  18. Day 1 - Did all of the things (but just the list). Good start - did morning workout, logged my food, and am now posting, which ends my evening stuff. Watched one episode of Dr. Who (the Tenant era), and wonder if you could make a Dr. Who workout of running around frantically. Or, actually any running of doctors: Daily Points: 9 Total Points: 9
  19. I need to get a new one - I gave my old one to someone else Edit: Just ordered a new one
  20. I was basically force-feeding her steak after a while. The problem became that she got really nauseous, and she didn't want to eat anything. She actually does like beef and spinach, and she continues to take iron supplements.
  21. Zero Week - Days 5 - 7 So, things have been ok. Just got back from Sunday morning Yoga, which consisted of many planks and many downward facing dogs. Good for core and my arms, so that felt good. Saturday was quiet (many chores were done), and Friday was some hip opening yoga. Trying to stay focused, and not add things that are not part of the plan right now. This is one my classic blunders: Pumped up for Monday!
  22. Yep, Ms. Moros was the anemic one - she wound up missing six weeks of work and had an ER visit. Fun was not had, but she is much, much better now. The problem was (as I'm sure you know), it takes a really long time to build the iron level back up. She's at the normal range now, but on the low side.
