  1. Learn some butchery skills, even if it's just jointing a chicken. Also, if you plan you can get half a pig/lamb or quarter of beef and break it down into many cuts. If you have a freezer load it up. You can save a real load of cash if you do this. Even make sausage or ham or salami or other cured meats. I make my own bacon in just a Tupperware box, some salt & other ingredients, it's fantastic and easily made in less than a week.
  2. Some good advice to useful links & I'd like to throw in Ben Coomber, his podcast is great, lots of interesting advice & guests http://bencoomber.com
  3. That routine looks good but I also like to throw in some halos & goblet squats
  4. Thanks jfreaksho, I think I'm just being a noob & overthinking. I'll rapidly be up there on the squats & this is basically a squat routine. Time to concentrate on form while weights are low
  5. I've been doing chen style tai chi for a number of years now
  6. I've started back lifting this month after a break since October. I decided to do the stronglifts as it's quick, focused and includes all the lifts I love. Now I'm looking at progress and it's goings to take some time to get back to where I was lifting before I stopped. My lifts were : Deadlifts - 100kg 3x3 Squats - 60kg 3x3 Bench - 50kg 3x3 Overhead press - 27.5kg 4x8 Bent over row - 45kg 5x10 One thing to note I was doing a push pull legs so only doing those lifts once a week. So should I rethink my numbers for stronglifts? Not overthink it & just get on with it?
  7. Not finished the whole book so haven't got there just yet, it's hard to see it being off days though due to recovery time. I did read a small bit about doing workouts twice a day. I think you're right that recovery is a key factor. The main benefits I can see of the S&S routine is it really compliments the strong lifts main lifts due to boosting muscle groups that are key to the lifts (glutes, grip, shoulders, abs)
  8. I have in the past loved both compound lifts & kettlebells. As I want to start the habits again & looking for a simple routine stronglifts & Pavel Tsatsouline's "kettlebell - simple & sinister" fits the bill but how do I combine the swings & get ups with stronglifts? Do them on the same day, separate days or never mix the beams? Cheers
  9. Hello everyone 43 yr old UK geek looking to remix his life. Been up & down the weight charts & need a reset. 17.5 stones was back to my heaviest so Kicked off with dropping alcohol for the cancer research dryathlon (I was drinking a bottle of wine a night previously) & now back in the gym. 7lbs lost already since new year day, enjoying the workouts again (back to heavy lifting), IFing while cycling carbs around work outs, this previously brought about a 30lb & 8% body fat loss a few years ago and hoping for similar results. One of my main issues has been mental issues. I'm hoping the changes I made to work & life in 2014 will give me the focus & resolve to sustain the changes this time. I'll probably start a training log at some point as I find this useful to keep me focused & feeling accountable & enthused.
