  1. I know I know, this update is long due. But to my defense I was really busy working out How has it gone? I love the Nerd Fitness Guide. I love the simplicity and how fast I can get in and out of the gym, but still get a great workout. I have stuck with the program and made it a habit to go working out early in the morning. I think one of the reasons why I could transition from not working out to working out so easily was the fact that the workouts are so short and crisp...I love it! I have a hard time scheduling my workouts, because I have football practice 3 times a week, my bachelor thesis and some other side projects. But so far everything is going good. I sleep way better than I used to and I have a lot more energy. I didn't think this could have happened! What didn't workout? Well, I found out that I don't eat enough. By far not enough. But with work, school, working out, football I have a really hard time eating enough! My stomach also needs to be stretched. I especially have a hard time eating in the mornings and I don't know how to get over it (just chugging it down is not an option so far, because I feel really sick all morning if I do that). I am trying to get a protein shake post-workout/in the morning and one at night and this is working out well. Didn't make it to starting receiver yet, but still got 3 more weeks to go. One thing I am really angry about is that I procrastinated on taking a before picture and now I am three weeks in without a picture. Damn it! I'll get that done this week. Thanks for reading! Ilhan
  2. Hi Everybody, I posted this in the ranger forge, but then found out it was the wrong place. So here it is again. I am Ilhan. I have been reading NerdFitness for a long time now and after purchasing the Rebel Strength Guide I decided I should participate in a 6 week challenge (perfect opportunity, right?). Also, I have seen the great progress my little brother is making and I can't just let him pass me like that So, my life goal over these 6 weeks is: rocking my bachelor thesis (I am an aerospace major) My fitness/diet goals are: -doing the barbell workout routine -making it to starting receiver in my football team -getting on the healthy bulk up diet My workout plan can be found here. I have worked out before and I play American football, but I really need to bulk up, so I figured this challenge would be an awesome "excuse" to really get the ball rolling one more time. This first week will be my control week. I will do all the workouts but I will not push myself too much, I want to find out where I am weight-lifting wise and how I like the excercises. I am also using this week to analyze my eating habits and find out what works and what doesn't work. What I see so far is that I am not eating enough at all! I have to fix this.

  4. Since I am Moslem most German butchers won't do for me, but thanks for the tip! Even though I can't imagine Turkish butchers going as touchy feely with their customers I'll give it a try!
  5. Thanks catspaw, I'll get back at that for sure! I am a big steak and fish fan. So I am looking for a tutorial on how to filet fish, how to decide if a piece of beef is of good quality, how to cut nice steaks etc. scarletleavy, nice to find a fellow German! Right now I am basically looking at getting a grip of basic recipes. I got pretty good at making basic vegetable recipes with a little bit of meat (thanks to my girlfriend) and I'll see where I'll get from here. I might try to learn a few yoghurt based sauces (I love yoghurt...all Turkish people do I think). Surprisingly I discovered my love for garlic and found out that garlic, onions and maiz make every dish taste amazing! After this 6 week challenge I plan on starting another one to go paleo all the way, but since even Optimus doesn't transform in one step, I'll take it slow
  6. Hi everybody, this is a hard one for me. Ever since moving to Munich to study I have been eating out a lot, gaining weight and losing money. Over the last few weeks I have learned a lot about cooking and how much fun it can actually be. So I have decided to go on a 6-week eating out challenge. In the course of this challenge I will not be allowed to eat in a restaurant. The only exceptions to these rules are: 1)Getting something for breakfast at the bakery in the mornings during weekdays 2)Eating at my dorm (we have a "private" cook) on weekday nights Except from that, all will be self cooked by me (on the weekends). In the course of this challenge I hope to eat healthier and get more independent. -Janissary
  7. Yes, other countries have gyms, too. But you can't get a membership for less than a year. That's the problem. Getting a bar and dbs is not an option, since my goal is getting ripped and saving money Plus I need to travel by plane so putting it in my trunk and carrying it around is not an option. I can't leave at my place, because it will not be mine anymore once I leave, and I get put it at my parents place, since there is already a truckload of stuff that needs to be transported from Munich to Berlin (that's a 6h drive). So right now I don't see any possibilities except body weight exercises :S
  8. thanks for the help everybody! ArmyMBM, the reason why I want to do BW exercises is easy. If I sign up for a gym, I have to get a 12-months contract. Starting around June, I will not be able to work out in a gym though (travel + 6 months internship in another country), so I'll be waisting a whole bunch of money.
  9. Thanks everybody for the tips! I am above average in my athletic skills, but I got a out of shape a lot. If it is possible (and from your posts I figured it is) I'd like to totally replace weight training by body weight exercises.
  10. Hi everybody! I was wondering about to which degree body weight exercises can replace weight training. I don't have access to a Gym right now and will not have at least until october next year, so body weight stuff has to do it for me. I don't want to bulk up a lot, just get athletic, and a little big (like a wide receiver, that's what I am and that's what I aim).
  11. Hi everybody! My name is Ilhan, I am a 22 years old aerospace major from Germany (origin: Turkey). After reading on here for a while I figured it'd be a great idea to join the message board. Taking and applying the advice on here, my alter ego is Janissary (coming from the Ottoman Turkish Yeniceri, which means new soldier or troop). As a superhero I do not have a "magic" superpower, my superpower lies in my superior combat skills and strong tactical mind (once I reach that level 50). I am in good athletic shape (above average for sure), I play American football in the first German league (for the Munich Cowboys). But my kryptonite is lazyness. I really struggle with this one. I usually have long days, because of work and college, and have to do stuff for my fraternity (academic fencing) so the few hours I do have time in a workweek I am really really really lazy. But I have been sitting around all day today (well, not just sitting around, I started the beginners body weight routine today, but you get the picture) and I am like "ohhh this is boring, ohhh this is boring, ohhh this is boring" I don't know wtf to do. That is my biggest problem. Add to that a knee injury I had last year that took me out of working out for a few months, and you have an above average athletic guy gone out of shape. So my goals are to finally get rid of that lazyness problem, get in great shape (I wanna be the ranger type of guy) and look ripped. Level 50 for me looks like this: -badass nerd (aerospace major + extensive knowledge in electronics and programming) -ripped as hell, looking like an olympic sprinter or pretty much any (slot) receiver in the NFL -great cook -great figther (I wanna try many martial arts) -breakdancing -expert in war studies I know I have a long way to go, but I have the feeling this community will help me a lot on the way!
