  1. So have you re-mastered Calculus yet? I have not done a thing about it in a long time. The last thing I did was a couple of weeks ago, before vacation, figuring out different ways to look at correlation in a statistical analysis.
  2. Going back to my high school days, I remembered something the math teacher kept telling us. He would quizzically look out the window. It was cold and snowy outside. Then he would say, "It doesn't look like weather for it, but it is time to combine the variables."
  3. Most recently, I have been going through statistics and how correlation coefficients are calculated. More specifically, I am trying to make an analogy towards dice. For example, 57.7% correlation would be like 1d6 out of 3d6.
  4. This is what I have heard. Once you set up and execute the calculus part, it can generate a whole bunch of algebra. Do they have something to get you remember that said algebra?
  5. How is this going? It has been a while since the last time I checked in.
  6. Wait! You're studying physics, too? One of my recent obsessions has been to attempt to calculate the calories from some of my sets (like deadlifts) and see how that compares with what the heart rate monitor says.
  7. What are you studying this time?
  8. Hey, just yesterday, I found the standardized (equivalent to) Pre-Calc exam from my home province! I think I was curious about a couple of things. One was is they still had standardized exams; and the other was what material got covered compared to A2 and PC in the USA.
  9. I did not catch that the surgery was today. Well, good luck.
  10. Something else dawns on me: He might also love my stupid zetamac game! If he has an iPhone or iPad, he might also like ninimaths. It is free and has no ads. There are in-game purchases to buy the guy coffee, beer, or noodles, but it is absolutely not intrusive. EDIT: (Spoiler)
  11. I live in Minnesota, but my sister lives in Calgary. Maybe one of these years, I will catch the Stampede and eat the crazy food - or visit for Christmas.
  12. I'm trying to curb MY enthusiasm a HAIR! These are all noble goals! This hits pretty close to home. Since it involves some people and privacy, I will go DM when I gather my thoughts and some time. This is a general problem with the System on several levels. Kids are supposed to go to school to learn something, but instead they go to school to get a good grade, enough of a grade to.... get through. There is supposed to be great joy in teaching and learning, but when it becomes a game for blood, then it's no longer fun. If we take this conversation back to fitness, I was recently explaining to MB and Little John why I keep saying that I hate running: 1. It is a popular thing to say, especially among lifters. Saying that I hate running makes me cool. People who love running are freaks. 2. I set my expectations way to high, based on what I might have accomplished when I was younger and lighter, and ran more often and therefore better, and more importantly, based on what other people who are better runners can accomplish. So when I do not meet those expectations, I think I am bad at running. It might be fair to say that nobody ever taught me how to run. Going back to math: I heard a rumor somewhere that a lot of kids struggled with calculus because they never developed skill with algebra. As you put it, they sat in a classroom where algebra was taught, and (eventually) got a passing score on a standardized test, but they never actually learned it. Do you still have skill in that area?
  13. I found it! I thought you studied Calculus in university! Curious: Why do you want to learn Calculus? Also: I am wearing a math nerd shirt I made myself, but it has nothing to do with Calculus. Confession: I have forgotten most of it. What do the percentages mean?
  14. Wait. I checked into the NF forums to see what my friends are up to and..... Wait. What? Did the world just end? I am going to go back a couple pages to see what you are trying to do. MB is very clear about the Rules with me: 6am = NO MATH! Most people tend to underestimate the calories they consume and overestimate the calories they expend, yet in one year (2016) MFP predicted that I would gain 50 pounds and that did not happen. And hi! I need to rebuild my NF routine and communication! (EDIT1: Hopefully, CM does not show up here and blast me for not reading the posts when I'm trying to catch up.)
  15. You are correct. I suddenly slowed down earlier this year. A couple of years ago, it was the shift to the four-week challenge that killed me on challenges. I did not like the idea of recycling my goals every five weeks just to start up a new challenge. Earlier this year, I simply burned out and I'm still working on where I can put my energy.
  16. I just saw the thread title. I typically weigh myself twice per day, once in the morning and once in the evening. I use the morning weight to monitor daily and weekly trends. (I eat like an idiot on the weekends and this shows up as the weight is higher Monday morning and usually trends downward through the week.) My scale seems to try to discourage over-measuring by showing the weight to be identical if it is within one pound of the last weighing. I do not know the full detail. So if I weigh 204.0 pounds one morning and weigh in the next day within one pound of that, then it will still read 204.0 pounds. I defeat this by weighing myself at night and in full clothing.

  18. I have been absent from the forum a while. I'm nearing the end of a program. Tuesday night, I hit a snatch at 175 pounds, just shy of my PR at 180 pounds and a post-injury best. My clean and jerk is still hanging around 225 pounds. This seems to be an easy power clean if I try, but I'm trying to work a different jerk form and I have a golfer's elbow I'm working on. Okay. Fine. I injured my elbow from jerking too much. In other news, I typed into Google.... How accurate are...... ......and I forgot my question and Google decided to troll me. What is wrong with you, Google? Do you know something I don't? And here I'm going to post some articles for later evaluation. http://www.rowingmachineking.com/water-vs-air-rowing-machine-difference/ http://www.olympum.com/sports/WaterRower-vs-Concept2-Power/ http://www.olympum.com/sports/rowing-with-waterrower-in-zwift/
